Verse 1
For the director of music, a contemplative psalm of David.
Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
Verse 2
When Doeg the Edomite came and reported to Saul, saying, 'David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.'
Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
Verse 3
Why do you boast about evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all day long.
Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
Verse 4
Your tongue devises destruction like a sharpened razor, you worker of deceit.
Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.
Verse 5
You love evil more than good, and falsehood more than speaking what is right. Selah.
God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
Verse 6
You love all words that destroy, O deceitful tongue.
The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
Verse 7
But God will tear you down forever; He will snatch and uproot you from your tent and dislodge you from the land of the living. Selah.
Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.
Verse 8
The righteous will see and fear, and they will laugh at him, saying,
But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
Verse 9
'Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his wealth and sought refuge in his destructive ways.'
I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.
Verse 10
But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I trust in God's steadfast love forever and ever.
Verse 11
I will thank You forever for what You have done; I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your faithful ones.
