For the director, according to 'The Lily of the Testimony,' a Miktam of David, for instruction.
O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.
Verse 2
When he fought against Aram-Naharaim and Aram-Zobah, and Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
Verse 4
You have shaken the land and torn it open; heal its fractures, for it is quaking.

That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
Verse 6
You have given a banner to those who fear you, to be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
Verse 7
That your beloved ones may be delivered, save with your right hand and answer me.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
Verse 8
God has spoken in his holiness: 'I will exult; I will divide Shechem and measure out the Valley of Succoth.'
Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.
Verse 9
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter.
Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
Verse 10
Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph.
Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
Verse 11
Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
Verse 12
Is it not you, O God, who have rejected us and who do not go out with our armies?
Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
Verse 13
Grant us help against the foe, for human deliverance is worthless.
Verse 14
With God we will perform valiantly, and he will trample down our enemies.
