Vi takker alltid Gud for dere alle, når vi nevner dere i våre bønner,

We always give thanks to God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers,

stadig i minne deres troens gjerning og kjærlighetens arbeid og håpets utholdenhet i vår Herre Jesus Kristus, for vår Gud og Far.

remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father.

Vi vet, søsken elsket av Gud, at dere er utvalgt,

We know, brothers{The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} loved by God, that you are chosen,

for vårt evangelium kom ikke til dere bare i ord, men også i kraft, og i Den Hellige Ånd, og med stor visshet. Dere vet hva slags mennesker vi viste oss å være blant dere for deres skyld.

and that our Gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake.

Dere ble våre etterlignere, og Herrens, da dere mottok ordet under mye trengsel, med glede i Den Hellige Ånd,

You became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

slik at dere ble et eksempel for alle de troende i Makedonia og Akaia.

so that you became an example to all who believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.

For fra dere har Herrens ord runget ut, ikke bare i Makedonia og Akaia, men også på hvert sted hvor deres tro på Gud har blitt kjent, slik at vi ikke trenger å si noe.

For from you has sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth; so that we need not to say anything.

For de selv forteller om oss hvilken mottakelse vi fikk hos dere, og hvordan dere vendte om til Gud fra avgudene, for å tjene den levende og sanne Gud,

For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God,

og for å vente på hans Sønn fra himmelen, som han reiste opp fra de døde – Jesus, som redder oss fra den kommende vrede.

and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead-- Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.
