Hiskia sendte bud til hele Israel og Juda og skrev også brev til Efraim og Manasse for at de skulle komme til Herrens hus i Jerusalem for å feire påsken for Herren, Israels Gud.

Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel.

Kongen hadde rådført seg med sine fyrster og hele forsamlingen i Jerusalem om å feire påsken i den andre måneden.

For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the assembly in Jerusalem, to keep the Passover in the second month.

De kunne ikke feire den i rett tid fordi prestene ikke hadde helliget seg i tilstrekkelig antall, og folket hadde heller ikke samlet seg i Jerusalem.

For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.

Denne beslutningen var riktig i kongens og hele forsamlingens øyne.

The thing was right in the eyes of the king and of all the assembly.

Så de vedtok et dekret om å kunngjøre over hele Israel, fra Be’ersheba til Dan, at alle skulle komme for å holde påsken for Herren, Israels Gud, i Jerusalem, for de hadde ikke feiret den i slike store antall som det var skrevet.

So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem: for they had not kept it in great numbers in such sort as it is written.

Brevbudene gikk ut fra kongen og hans fyrster gjennom hele Israel og Juda, etter kongens befaling, og sa: Dere, Israels barn, vend tilbake til Herren, Abraham, Isak og Israels Gud, så han kan vende seg til restene som er igjen av dere, som har unnsluppet kongene i Assyriakongenes hånd.

So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, You children of Israel, turn again to Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that he may return to the remnant that have escaped of you out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.

Vær ikke som deres fedre og brødre, som handlet troløst mot Herren, deres fedres Gud, slik at han overga dem til ødeleggelse, som dere ser.

Don't be you like your fathers, and like your brothers, who trespassed against Yahweh, the God of their fathers, so that he gave them up to desolation, as you see.

Nå, vær ikke like stivnakket som deres fedre, men overgi dere til Herren, og gå inn i hans helligdom som han har helliget for alltid, og tjen Herren, deres Gud, så hans brennende vrede kan vende seg bort fra dere.

Now don't you be stiff-necked, as your fathers were; but yield yourselves to Yahweh, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever, and serve Yahweh your God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you.

For hvis dere vender tilbake til Herren, skal deres brødre og barn finne barmhjertighet hos dem som tok dem til fange, og komme tilbake til dette landet, for Herren, deres Gud, er nådig og barmhjertig og vil ikke vende sitt ansikt bort fra dere, hvis dere vender tilbake til ham.

For if you turn again to Yahweh, your brothers and your children shall find compassion before those who led them captive, and shall come again into this land: for Yahweh your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.

Brevbudene dro fra by til by gjennom Efraims og Manasses land, helt til Sebulon, men de ble latterliggjort og hånet.

So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun: but they ridiculed them, and mocked them.

Likevel ydmyket noen menn fra Asjer, Manasse og Sebulon seg selv og kom til Jerusalem.

Nevertheless certain men of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.

Også over Juda kom Herrens hånd for å gi dem ett hjerte til å gjøre kongens og fyrstenes befaling ved Herrens ord.

Also on Judah came the hand of God to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by the word of Yahweh.

Det samlet seg mye folk i Jerusalem for å feire de usyrede brøds høytid i den andre måneden, en meget stor forsamling.

There assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great assembly.

De reiste seg og fjernet de altrene som var i Jerusalem, og de tok bort alle altrene for røkelse og kastet dem i Kedronbekken.

They arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for incense took they away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.

Så slaktet de påskelammet på den fjortende dagen i den andre måneden, og prestene og levittene følte skam, helliget seg selv, og brakte brennoffer til Herrens hus.

Then they killed the Passover on the fourteenth [day] of the second month: and the priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought burnt offerings into the house of Yahweh.

De stod på sine plasser etter sin orden, i samsvar med loven fra Moses, Guds mann: prestene sprutet blodet som de mottok fra levittene.

They stood in their place after their order, according to the law of Moses the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood [which they received] of the hand of the Levites.

Det var mange i forsamlingen som ikke hadde helliget seg; derfor hadde levittene ansvaret for å slakte påskelammene for alle som ikke var rene, for å hellige dem for Herren.

For there were many in the assembly who had not sanctified themselves: therefore the Levites had the charge of killing the Passovers for everyone who was not clean, to sanctify them to Yahweh.

For mange av folket, selv mange fra Efraim, Manasse, Issakar og Sebulon, hadde ikke renset seg, men de spiste påsken på annen vis enn det er skrevet. For Hiskia ba for dem og sa: Den gode Herren tilgi hver enkelt

For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the Passover otherwise than it is written. For Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, The good Yahweh pardon everyone

som setter sitt hjerte til å søke Gud, Herren, sine fedres Gud, om enn ikke etter helligdommens renhet.

who sets his heart to seek God, Yahweh, the God of his fathers, though not [cleansed] according to the purification of the sanctuary.

Herren hørte Hiskia og helbredet folket.

Yahweh listened to Hezekiah, and healed the people.

Israels barn som var til stede i Jerusalem, feiret de usyrede brøds høytid i sju dager med stor glede; og levittene og prestene lovpriste Herren dag etter dag, sang med sterke instrumenter til Herren.

The children of Israel who were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness; and the Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day by day, [singing] with loud instruments to Yahweh.

Hiskia talte vennlig til alle levittene som hadde god forståelse i Herrens tjeneste. Så spiste de gjennom hele høytiden i de syv dagene, og ofret fredsofre og bekjente Herren, sine fedre Gud.

Hezekiah spoke comfortably to all the Levites who had good understanding [in the service] of Yahweh. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace-offerings, and making confession to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

Hele forsamlingen besluttet å feire enda syv dager; og de feiret syv dager til med glede.

The whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days; and they kept [other] seven days with gladness.

For Juda kong Hiskia ga forsamlingen tusen okser og sju tusen sauer som ofre; og fyrstene ga forsamlingen tusen okser og ti tusen sauer: og et stort antall prester helliget seg selv.

For Hezekiah king of Judah did give to the assembly for offerings one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.

Hele Juda-forsamlingen, med prestene og levittene, og hele forsamlingen som kom fra Israel, og de fremmede som kom fra Israels land, og de som bodde i Juda, gledet seg.

All the assembly of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the assembly who came out of Israel, and the foreigners who came out of the land of Israel, and who lived in Judah, rejoiced.

Så det var stor glede i Jerusalem; for siden Salomos tid, Davids sønn, kongen av Israel, hadde det ikke vært maken i Jerusalem.

So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.

Så reiste prestene levittene seg og velsignet folket: og deres stemme ble hørt, og deres bønn nådde hans hellige bolig, til og med til himmelen.

Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy habitation, even to heaven.
