Dette er ordene i pakten som Herren befalte Moses å gjøre med Israels barn i landet Moab, i tillegg til den pakten han gjorde med dem på Horeb.

These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

Moses kalte hele Israel sammen og sa til dem: Dere har sett alt det Herren gjorde for deres øyne i Egypt, mot farao, hans tjenere og hele hans land;

Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, You have seen all that Yahweh did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;

de store prøvelsene som deres øyne så, tegnene og de store underene:

the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders:

men Herren har ikke gitt dere et hjerte til å forstå, øyne til å se, og ører til å høre, til denne dag.

but Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.

Jeg har ledet dere i førti år i ødemarken: klærne deres har ikke blitt gamle, og skoene har ikke blitt utslitte på føttene deres.

I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoe has not grown old on your foot.

Dere har ikke spist brød, og dere har ikke drukket vin eller sterk drikke, for at dere skal kjenne at jeg er Herren deres Gud.

You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink; that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.

Da dere kom til dette stedet, kom Sihon, kongen av Hesbon, og Og, kongen av Basan, ut mot oss for å kjempe, og vi slo dem.

When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we struck them:

Vi tok deres land og ga det som arv til rubenittene, gadittene og halve Manasses stamme.

and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.

Hold derfor ordene i denne pakten og gjør etter dem, for at dere skal ha fremgang i alt dere gjør.

Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.

Dere står i dag alle foran Herren deres Gud; deres høvdinger, stammer, eldste og offiserer, hele Israels menn,

You stand this day all of you before Yahweh your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,

deres små, deres koner og den fremmede som er blant leirene deres, fra den som hugger ved til den som henter vann;

your little ones, your wives, and your foreigner who is in the midst of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water;

for at dere skal tre inn i Herrens, deres Guds, pakt og hans ed som han inngår med dere i dag;

that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you this day;

for at han skal opprette dere som sitt folk i dag, og at han skal være deres Gud, slik han talte til dere, og som han sverget til deres fedre, Abraham, Isak og Jakob.

that he may establish you this day to himself for a people, and that he may be to you a God, as he spoke to you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Det er ikke bare med dere jeg gjør denne pakten og eden,

Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

men med den som står her med oss i dag foran Herren vår Gud, og også med den som ikke er her med oss i dag.

but with him who stands here with us this day before Yahweh our God, and also with him who is not here with us this day

(For dere vet hvordan vi bodde i Egypt og hvordan vi dro gjennom landene dere har passert;

(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed;

og dere har sett deres avskyelige praksis og deres avguder av tre, stein, sølv og gull som var hos dem);

and you have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them);

for at det ikke skal være blant dere en mann, kvinne, familie eller stamme som i dag vender sitt hjerte bort fra Herren vår Gud for å tjene disse nasjoners guder; for at det ikke skal være blant dere en rot som bærer gift og malurt.

lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;

Og det skjer når han hører ordene i denne forbannelsen, at han velsigner seg selv i sitt hjerte og sier: Jeg skal ha fred, selv om jeg følger mitt sta hjerte, for å ødelegge det fruktbare med det tørre.

and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.

Herren vil ikke tilgi ham, men Herrens vrede og hans sjalusi vil brenne mot den mannen, og all forbannelsen som er skrevet i denne boken vil komme over ham, og Herren vil utslette hans navn under himmelen.

Yahweh will not pardon him, but then the anger of Yahweh and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.

Herren vil skille ham ut til ulykke blant alle Israels stammer, i henhold til alle forbannelsene som er skrevet i denne lovens bok.

Yahweh will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

Den kommende generasjonen, deres barn som reiser seg etter dere, og den fremmede som kommer fra et fjernt land, skal si når de ser pestene i det landet og sykdommene som Herren har påført det;

The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick;

at hele landet er svovel, salt og brann; det blir verken sådd eller bærer frukt, og ingen gress vokser der, som ødeleggelsen av Sodoma og Gomorra, Adma og Sebojim, som Herren ødela i sin vrede og harme.

[and that] the whole land of it is sulfur, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

Ja, alle nasjonene skal si: Hvorfor har Herren gjort slik med dette landet? Hva betyr denne store vredens hede?

even all the nations shall say, Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? what means the heat of this great anger?

Da skal folk si: Fordi de forlot Herrens, deres fedres Guds, pakt som han hadde inngått med dem da han førte dem ut av landet Egypt,

Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,

og de gikk og tjente andre guder og tilba dem, guder som de ikke kjente, og som han ikke hadde gitt til dem:

and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they didn't know, and that he had not given to them:

derfor ble Herrens vrede opptent mot dette landet, for å føre over det all den forbannelsen som er skrevet i denne boken;

therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curse that is written in this book;

og Herren rykket dem opp av deres land i vrede, harme og stor forbitrelse, og kastet dem inn i et annet land, slik som denne dagen.

and Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.

De hemmelige ting hører Herren vår Gud til; men de ting som blir åpenbart, tilhører oss og våre barn for alltid, så vi kan gjøre etter alle ordene i denne loven.

The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
