Moses svarte: "Men se, de vil ikke tro meg eller lytte til meg; for de vil si: 'Jahve har ikke vist seg for deg.'"

Moses answered, "But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, 'Yahweh has not appeared to you.'"

Jahve sa til ham: "Hva er det du har i hånden?" Han svarte: "En stav."

Yahweh said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

Han sa: "Kast den på bakken." Han kastet den på bakken, og den ble til en slange; og Moses flyktet fra den.

He said, "Throw it on the ground." He threw it on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses ran away from it.

Jahve sa til Moses: "Rekk ut hånden din og grip den i halen." Han rakte ut hånden, grep den, og den ble til en stav i hånden hans.

Yahweh said to Moses, "Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail." He put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand.

"For at de skal tro at Jahve, deres fedres Gud, Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud, har vist seg for deg."

"That they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."

Jahve sa videre til ham: "Stikk nå hånden din inn i kappen din." Han stakk hånden inn i kappen, og da han tok den ut, se, var hånden spedalsk, så hvit som snø.

Yahweh said furthermore to him, "Now put your hand inside your cloak." He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.

Han sa: "Stikk hånden din inn i kappen igjen." Han stakk hånden inn i kappen igjen, og da han tok den ut, var den som resten av hans kropp.

He said, "Put your hand inside your cloak again." He put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took it out of his cloak, behold, it had turned again as his other flesh.

"Hvis de ikke tror deg eller lytter til det første tegns røst, vil de tro det andre tegns røst.

"It will happen, if they will neither believe you nor listen to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

Hvis de ikke engang tror på disse to tegnene eller lytter til din stemme, skal du ta vann fra elven og helle det på tørt land. Vannet som du tar fra elven, vil bli til blod på det tørre landet."

It will happen, if they will not believe even these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall take of the water of the river, and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of the river will become blood on the dry land."

Moses sa til Jahve: "Å, Herre, jeg er ikke veltalende, verken før eller etter at du har talt til din tjener; for jeg er tung i tale og tung i tunge."

Moses said to Yahweh, "Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue."

Jahve sa til ham: "Hvem har skapt menneskets munn? Hvem gjør en stum, eller døv, eller seende, eller blind? Er det ikke jeg, Jahve?

Yahweh said to him, "Who made man's mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isn't it I, Yahweh?

Gå nå derfor, og jeg vil være med din munn og lære deg hva du skal si."

Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak."

Han sa: "Å, Herre, vær så snill og send noen andre."

He said, "Oh, Lord, please send someone else."

Jahves vrede ble opptent mot Moses, og han sa: "Hva med Aaron, din bror, levitten? Jeg vet at han kan tale godt. Se, han kommer for å møte deg, og når han ser deg, vil han glede seg i sitt hjerte.

The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Moses, and he said, "What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he comes forth to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

Du skal tale til ham og legge ordene i hans munn. Jeg vil være med din munn og med hans munn, og lære dere hva dere skal gjøre.

You shall speak to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what you shall do.

Han skal tale til folket for deg; han skal være som en munn for deg, og du skal være som Gud for ham.

He will be your spokesman to the people; and it will happen, that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as God.

Ta denne staven i hånden din, med den skal du gjøre tegnene."

You shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs."

Moses gikk tilbake til sin svigerfar Jetro, og sa til ham: "La meg dra tilbake til mine brødre i Egypt for å se om de fortsatt lever." Jetro sa til Moses: "Gå i fred."

Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive." Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."

Jahve sa til Moses i Midian: "Gå, vend tilbake til Egypt; for alle mennene som søkte ditt liv, er døde."

Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, "Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead."

Moses tok sin kone og sine sønner, satte dem på et esel, og vendte tilbake til Egypt. Moses tok Guds stav i sin hånd.

Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took God's rod in his hand.

Jahve sa til Moses: "Når du kommer tilbake til Egypt, sørg for å gjøre foran Farao alle de undere som jeg har lagt i din hånd, men jeg vil forherde hans hjerte, og han vil ikke la folket gå.

Yahweh said to Moses, "When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.

Du skal si til Farao: 'Så sier Jahve: Israel er min sønn, min førstefødte,

You shall tell Pharaoh, 'Thus says Yahweh, Israel is my son, my firstborn,

og jeg har sagt til deg: La min sønn dra, så han kan tjene meg; men du har nektet å la ham dra. Se, jeg vil drepe din sønn, din førstefødte.'"

and I have said to you, "Let my son go, that he may serve me;" and you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.'"

Det skjedde på veien ved et herberge at Jahve møtte ham og ville drepe ham.

It happened on the way at a lodging place, that Yahweh met him and wanted to kill him.

Da tok Sippora en skarp stein, skar av forhuden til sin sønn, kastet den for føttene hans og sa: "Du er en blodig brudgom for meg."

Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me."

Så lot han ham være. Da sa hun: "Du er en blodig brudgom," på grunn av omskjærelsen.

So he let him alone. Then she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood," because of the circumcision.

Jahve sa til Aaron: "Gå til ørkenen for å møte Moses." Han gikk, og møtte ham på Guds fjell, og kysset ham.

Yahweh said to Aaron, "Go into the wilderness to meet Moses." He went, and met him on God's mountain, and kissed him.

Moses fortalte Aaron alle de ord som Jahve hadde sendt ham med, og alle de tegn han hadde gitt ham befaling om.

Moses told Aaron all the words of Yahweh with which he had sent him, and all the signs with which he had charged him.

Moses og Aaron gikk og samlet alle Israels eldste.

Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel.

Aaron talte alle ordene som Jahve hadde talt til Moses, og gjorde tegnene for folkets øyne.

Aaron spoke all the words which Yahweh had spoken to Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

Folket trodde, og da de hørte at Jahve hadde besøkt Israels barn, og sett deres nød, bøyde de seg ned og tilbad.

The people believed, and when they heard that Yahweh had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.
