Abraham reiste seg fra sin døde og talte til Hetittenes sønner og sa:

Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,

"Jeg er en fremmed og en utlending hos dere. Gi meg eiendom til en gravplass hos dere, så jeg kan begrave mine døde bort fra mitt øye."

"I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight."

Hetittenes sønner svarte Abraham og sa til ham,

The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

"Hør oss, herre. Du er en Guds fyrste blant oss. Begrav dine døde i den beste av våre graver. Ingen av oss vil nekte deg sin grav, så du kan begrave dine døde."

"Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. In the choice of our tombs bury your dead. None of us will withhold from you his tomb, but that you may bury your dead."

Abraham reiste seg og bøyde seg for folket i landet, for Hetittene.

Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

Abraham bøyde seg ned for folket i landet.

Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.

Han talte til Efron for folkets ører og sa: "Hvis du samtykker, så hør meg. Jeg vil betale for jordet. Ta imot pengene fra meg, så kan jeg begrave mine døde der."

He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, "But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there."

Efron svarte Abraham og sa:

Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

"Min herre, hør meg. Et stykke jord verd fire hundre sekel sølv, hva er det mellom meg og deg? Begrav derfor dine døde."

"My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead."
