The burden of the valley of vision. What ails you now, that you are wholly gone up to the housetops?

Du som er full av rop, en støyende by, en gledens by; de drepte er ikke drept med sverd, heller ikke er de døde i kamp.

You that are full of shouting, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; your slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle.

Alle dine herskere flyktet sammen, de ble bundet av bueskyttere; alle som ble funnet av deg ble bundet sammen; de flyktet langt bort.

All your rulers fled away together, they were bound by the archers; all who were found of you were bound together; they fled afar off.

Derfor sa jeg: Vend blikket bort fra meg, jeg vil gråte bittert; ikke strev med å trøste meg for ødeleggelsen av min folkedatter.

Therefore said I, Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; don't labor to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

For det er en dag med forvirring og nedtråkkelse og forferdelse, fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud, i synsdalen; med murens sammenbrudd og et rop til fjellene.

For it is a day of confusion, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, in the valley of vision; a breaking down of the walls, and a crying to the mountains.

Elam bar koggeret, med vogner av soldater og ryttere; og Kir avdekket skjoldet.

Elam bore the quiver, with chariots of men [and] horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield.

Det skjedde at de beste dalførene dine var fulle av vogner, og rytterne stilte seg opp ved porten.

It happened that your choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate.

Han tok bort dekningen for Juda; og du så den dagen på rustningen i skoghuset.

He took away the covering of Judah; and you did look in that day to the armor in the house of the forest.

Du så bruddene i Davids by, at de var mange; og du samlet vannene fra den nedre dammen;

You saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and you gathered together the waters of the lower pool;

og du talte husene i Jerusalem, og du brøt husene ned for å styrke muren;

and you numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall;

du laget også et reservoar mellom de to murene for vannet i den gamle dammen. Men du så ikke til han som hadde gjort dette, og du hadde ikke respekt for han som hadde planlagt det for lenge siden.

you made also a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you didn't look to him who had done this, neither did you have respect for him who purposed it long ago.

Den dagen kalte Herren, hærskarenes Gud, til gråt og sørging, til skallet hodet og til å binde seg med sekkesekk.

In that day did the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

Og se, glede og fryd, å slakte okser og sauer, å spise kjøtt og drikke vin: La oss spise og drikke, for i morgen dør vi.

and behold, joy and gladness, killing oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die.

Hærskarenes Gud åpenbarte seg for meg og sa: Sannelig, denne misgjerningen vil ikke bli tilgitt dere før dere dør, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

Yahweh of Hosts revealed himself in my ears, Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven you until you die, says the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts.

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Gå, gå til denne skattmesteren, til Sebna, som er over huset, og si:

Thus says the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, Go, get yourself to this treasurer, even to Shebna, who is over the house, [and say],

"Hva gjør du her? Og hvem har du her, at du har hogget ut en grav her? Skjærer ut en grav høy på fjellet, som hugger seg et bosted i klippen!"

"What are you doing here? and who has you here, that you have hewed out a tomb here? Cutting him out a tomb on high, chiseling a habitation for himself in the rock!"

Se, Herren vil kaste deg bort kraftig, ja, han vil pakke deg tett inn.

Behold, Yahweh, like a [strong] man, will hurl you away violently; yes, he will wrap you up closely.

Han vil sikkert vri deg rundt og rundt, og kaste deg som en ball inn i et stort land; der skal du dø, og der skal vognene dine av herlighet være, du skam for din herres hus.

He will surely wind you round and round, [and toss you] like a ball into a large country; there shall you die, and there shall be the chariots of your glory, you shame of your lord's house.

Jeg vil kaste deg ut fra din posisjon; og fra ditt embete skal du bli trukket ned.

I will thrust you from your office; and from your station shall you be pulled down.

Det skal skje på den dagen at jeg vil kalle min tjener Eljakim, Hilkias sønn:

It shall happen in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

og jeg vil kle ham med din kappe, og styrke ham med ditt belte, og jeg vil overgi din myndighet i hans hånd; og han skal være en far for Jerusalems innbyggere, og for Juda hus.

and I will cloth him with your robe, and strengthen him with your belt, and I will commit your government into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

Nøkkelen til Davids hus vil jeg legge på hans skulder; han skal åpne, og ingen skal lukke; han skal lukke, og ingen skal åpne.

The key of the house of David will I lay on his shoulder; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

Jeg vil feste ham som en nagle på et sikkert sted; og han skal være en herlighetens trone for sin fars hus.

I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a throne of glory to his father's house.

De skal henge på ham all pryd for sin fars hus, avkom og etterkommere, hvert lite kar, fra koppene til alle krukkene.

They shall hang on him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, every small vessel, from the cups even to all the pitchers.

Den dagen, sier hærskarenes Gud, skal naglen som var festet på et sikkert sted gi etter; og den skal hogges ned, og falle; og byrden på den skal bli skåret bort; for Herren har talt.

In that day, says Yahweh of hosts, shall the nail that was fastened in a sure place give way; and it shall be hewn down, and fall; and the burden that was on it shall be cut off; for Yahweh has spoken it.
