Hør på meg, øyer, og lytt, dere folk fra fjern: Herren har kalt meg fra mors liv; fra min mors kropp har han nevnt mitt navn.

Listen, isles, to me; and listen, you peoples, from far: Yahweh has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother has he made mention of my name:

Han har gjort min munn som et skarpt sverd; i skyggen av sin hånd har han gjemt meg. Han har formet meg som en polert pil; i sitt kogger har han holdt meg nær.

and he has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand has he hid me: and he has made me a polished shaft; in his quiver has he kept me close:

Han sa til meg: Du er min tjener, Israel, i deg skal jeg bli herliggjort.

and he said to me, You are my servant; Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

Men jeg sa: Jeg har arbeidet forgjeves, jeg har brukt min styrke til ingenting og tomhet; likevel er min rett med Herren, og min belønning hos min Gud.

But I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely the justice [due] to me is with Yahweh, and my recompense with my God.

Nå sier Herren, han som formet meg fra mors liv til å være hans tjener, for å bringe Jakob tilbake til ham, og for at Israel skal samles til ham (for jeg er æret i Herrens øyne, og min Gud har blitt min styrke):

Now says Yahweh who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, and that Israel be gathered to him (for I am honorable in the eyes of Yahweh, and my God is become my strength);

Ja, han sier: Det er for lite at du skal være min tjener til å oppreise Jakobs stammer og gjenopprette de bevarte av Israel. Jeg vil også gi deg som et lys for folkeslagene, så du kan bli min frelse til jordens ende.

yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.

Så sier Herren, Israels Frelser, hans Hellige, til ham som mennesker forakter, til ham som nasjonen avskyr, til en tjener for herskere: Konger skal se og reise seg; fyrster, og de skal tilbe; på grunn av Herren som er trofast, den Hellige i Israel, som har utvalgt deg.

Thus says Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israel, [and] his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of Yahweh who is faithful, [even] the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.

Så sier Herren: I en gunstig tid har jeg svart deg, og på en frelsens dag har jeg hjulpet deg; og jeg vil bevare deg og gi deg som en pakt for folket, for å oppreise landet, for å gi dem arv de herjede steder:

Thus says Yahweh, In an acceptable time have I answered you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you; and I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritage:

si til de bundne: Gå ut; til dem som er i mørket: Vis dere. De skal beite langs veier, og på alle bare høyder skal de finne beite.

saying to those who are bound, Go forth; to those who are in darkness, Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and on all bare heights shall be their pasture.

De skal ikke sulte eller tørste; verken hete eller sol skal slå dem, for han som har barmhjertighet med dem vil føre dem, ja, ved vannkilder vil han lede dem.

They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun strike them: for he who has mercy on them will lead them, even by springs of water will he guide them.

Jeg vil gjøre alle mine fjell til veier, og mine veier skal bli opphøyet.

I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.

Se, disse skal komme fra det fjerne; og se, disse fra nord og fra vest; og disse fra landet Sinim.

Behold, these shall come from far; and, behold, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

Syng, himler, og vær glad, jord, bryt ut i jubel, fjell, for Herren har trøstet sitt folk, og vil ha medfølelse med de som er plaget.

Sing, heavens; and be joyful, earth; and break forth into singing, mountains: for Yahweh has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted.

Men Sion sa: Herren har forlatt meg, og Herren har glemt meg.

But Zion said, Yahweh has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.

Kan en kvinne glemme sitt diende barn, så hun ikke har medfølelse med sin mors livs sønn? Ja, disse kan glemme, men jeg vil ikke glemme deg.

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you.

Se, jeg har gravert deg på mine hender; dine murer er alltid for meg.

Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.

Dine barn haster av sted; de som ødela deg og de som gjorde deg øde skal dra bort fra deg.

Your children make haste; your destroyers and those who made you waste shall go forth from you.

Løft dine øyne rundt omkring og se: alle disse samler seg og kommer til deg. Så sant jeg lever, sier Herren, du skal kle deg med dem alle som med et smykke, og binde deg med dem, som en brud.

Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live, says Yahweh, you shall surely clothe you with them all as with an ornament, and gird yourself with them, like a bride.

For dine ruiner og dine øde steder, og ditt land som har blitt ødelagt, skal nå være for lite for innbyggerne, og de som slukte deg skal være langt borte.

For, as for your waste and your desolate places, and your land that has been destroyed, surely now shall you be too small for the inhabitants, and those who swallowed you up shall be far away.

Dine barn i sorg skal en gang si i ditt øre: Stedet er for trangt for meg; gi meg plass så jeg kan bo.

The children of your bereavement shall yet say in your ears, The place is too small for me; give place to me that I may dwell.

Da skal du si i ditt hjerte: Hvem har født disse for meg, siden jeg var bereøvd mine barn, og jeg er ensom, en flyktning, vandrende frem og tilbake? Og hvem har oppfostret disse? Se, jeg var igjen alene; disse, hvor var de?

Then shall you say in your heart, Who has conceived these for me, seeing I have been bereaved of my children, and am solitary, an exile, and wandering back and forth? and who has brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where were they?

Så sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg vil løfte min hånd til nasjonene, og sette opp mitt utkikkspunkt for folket; og de skal bære dine sønner i sitt skjød, og dine døtre skal bli båret på sine skuldre.

Thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my ensign to the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.

Konger skal være dine fosterfedre, og deres dronninger dine ammer: de skal bøye seg ned for deg med ansiktet mot jorden, og de skal slikke støvet av dine føtter; og du skal vite at jeg er Herren, og de som venter på meg skal ikke bli skuffet.

Kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am Yahweh; and those who wait for me shall not be disappointed.

Skal byttet tas fra den mektige, eller de lovlige fangene bli befridd?

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives be delivered?

Men slik sier Herren: Selv fangene fra den mektige skal tas bort, og byttet fra de fryktelige skal bli befridd; for jeg vil kjempe med ham som kjemper med deg, og jeg vil redde dine barn.

But thus says Yahweh, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children.

Jeg vil gi dem som undertrykker deg å spise sitt eget kjøtt; og de skal drikke sitt eget blod som søt vin: og alt kjød skal vite at jeg, Herren, er din Frelser og din Frelser, den Mektige i Jakob.

I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I, Yahweh, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
