Orden som kom til Jeremia fra Herren, lød:

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

Hør ordene i denne pakten, og tal til mennene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem;

Hear you the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

og si til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Forbannet er den som ikke hører ordene i denne pakten,

and say you to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man who doesn't hear the words of this covenant,

som jeg befalte deres fedre den dagen jeg førte dem ut av landet Egypt, ut av smelteovnen, og sa: Lyd min røst og gjør dem, etter alt jeg befaler dere: Da skal dere være mitt folk, og jeg skal være deres Gud;

which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall you be my people, and I will be your God;

for at jeg kunne opprette eden som jeg sverget til deres fedre, å gi dem et land som flyter med melk og honning, som i dag. Da svarte jeg og sa: Amen, Herre.

that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, Yahweh.

Herren sa til meg: Proklamer alle disse ordene i byene i Juda og i gatene i Jerusalem, og si: Hør ordene i denne pakten, og gjør dem.

Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear you the words of this covenant, and do them.

For jeg advarte deres fedre ivrig den dagen jeg førte dem ut av landet Egypt, inntil i dag, tidlig og advarende, og sa: Lyd min røst.

For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

Men de adlød ikke, og vendte ikke øret til meg, men fulgte hver av dem sin onde hjertes stahet: derfor lot jeg alle ordene i denne pakten komme over dem, som jeg befalte dem å gjøre, men de gjorde dem ikke.

Yet they didn't obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn't do them.

Herren sa til meg: En sammensvergelse er funnet blant mennene i Juda og blant innbyggerne i Jerusalem.

Yahweh said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

De har vendt tilbake til sine forfedres misgjerninger, som nektet å høre mine ord; og de fulgte andre guder for å tjene dem: Israels hus og Judas hus har brutt min pakt som jeg gjorde med deres fedre.

They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

Derfor sier Herren: Se, jeg vil bringe ondt over dem, som de ikke vil kunne unnslippe; og de skal rope til meg, men jeg vil ikke høre dem.

Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

Da skal byene i Juda og innbyggerne i Jerusalem gå og rope til gudene som de brenner røkelse for: men de skal ikke frelse dem i det hele tatt i deres nød.

Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

For ifølge antall byer, er dine guder, Juda; og ifølge antall gater i Jerusalem har du satt opp altere til den skammelige tingen, selv altere for å brenne røkelse for Baal.

For according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

Derfor skal du ikke be for dette folket, heller ikke løfte klage eller bønn for dem; for jeg vil ikke høre dem i den tid de roper til meg på grunn av deres nød.

Therefore don't you pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.

Hva har min elskede å gjøre i mitt hus, når hun har drevet utukt med mange, og det hellige kjøtt er tatt fra deg? Når du gjør ondt, da fryder du deg.

What has my beloved to do in my house, seeing she has worked lewdness [with] many, and the holy flesh is passed from you? when you do evil, then you rejoice.

Herren kalte ditt navn, Et grønt oliventre, vakkert med god frukt: med lyden av et stort opprør har han tent ild på det, og grenene er brutt.

Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and the branches of it are broken.

For Herren over hærskarene, som plantet deg, har erklært ondt mot deg, på grunn av det onde Israels hus og Judas hus har gjort mot meg for å forarge meg ved å brenne røkelse for Baal.

For Yahweh of Hosts, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

Herren ga meg kunnskap om det, og jeg visste det: da viste du meg deres gjerninger.

Yahweh gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you shown me their doings.

Men jeg var som et mildt lam som føres til slakting; og jeg visste ikke at de hadde planlagt onde mot meg, og sa: La oss ødelegge treet med dets frukt, og la oss kutte ham av fra de levendes land, så hans navn ikke mer blir husket.

But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn't know that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit of it, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

Men, Herre over hærskarene, som dømmer rettferdig, som prøver hjertet og tankene, jeg skal se din hevn over dem; for til deg har jeg åpenbart min sak.

But, Yahweh of Hosts, who judge righteously, who try the heart and the mind, I shall see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

Derfor sier Herren om mennene i Anatot, som søker ditt liv, og sier: Du skal ikke profetere i Herrens navn, slik at du ikke dør for vår hånd;

Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, that you not die by our hand;

derfor sier Herren over hærskarene: Se, jeg vil straffe dem: de unge mennene skal dø ved sverdet; deres sønner og døtre skal dø av sult;

therefore thus says Yahweh of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

og det skal ikke være noen rest tilbake til dem: for jeg vil bringe ondt over mennene i Anatot, til og med straffens år.

and there shall be no remnant to them: for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
