Etter seks dager tok Jesus med seg Peter, Jakob og Johannes, hans bror, og førte dem opp på et høyt fjell, for seg selv.

After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.

Han ble forvandlet foran dem. Hans ansikt skinte som solen, og hans klær ble hvite som lyset.

He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.

Se, Moses og Elias viste seg for dem og snakket med ham.

Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

Peter svarte og sa til Jesus: "Herre, det er godt for oss å være her. Hvis du vil, la oss lage tre hytter her: en til deg, en til Moses, og en til Elias."

Peter answered, and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let's make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."

Mens han ennå talte, se, en lys sky overskygget dem. Og se, en røst kom ut av skyen og sa: "Dette er min elskede Sønn, i ham har jeg velbehag. Hør ham!"

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him."

Da disiplene hørte det, falt de ned på ansiktene sine og ble meget redde.

When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

Jesus kom og rørte ved dem og sa: "Reis dere, og frykt ikke."

Jesus came and touched them and said, "Get up, and don't be afraid."

Da de løftet øynene, så de ingen andre enn Jesus alene.

Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.

Mens de gikk ned fra fjellet, befalte Jesus dem og sa: "Fortell ingen om det dere har sett, før Menneskesønnen er reist opp fra de døde."

As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Don't tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead."

Hans disipler spurte ham: "Hvorfor sier de skriftlærde da at Elias først må komme?"

His disciples asked him, saying, "Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

Jesus svarte dem: "Elias kommer riktignok først og skal gjenopprette alt.

Jesus answered them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,

Men jeg sier dere at Elias allerede har kommet, og de kjente ham ikke igjen, men gjorde med ham som de ville. Slik skal også Menneskesønnen lide av deres hånd."

but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn't recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them."

Da forstod disiplene at han talte om Johannes døperen.

Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.

Da de kom til mengden, kom en mann til ham, knelte for ham og sa:

When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, saying,

"Herre, ha barmhjertighet med min sønn, for han er månesyk og lider meget; ofte faller han i ilden og ofte i vannet.

"Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

Så jeg brakte ham til dine disipler, og de kunne ikke helbrede ham."

So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him."

Jesus svarte og sa: "Du vantro og fordervede slekt! Hvor lenge skal jeg være hos dere? Hvor lenge skal jeg tåle dere? Bring ham hit til meg."

Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me."

Jesus truet demonen, og den forlot gutten, og han ble helbredet fra den stund.

Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.

Da kom disiplene til Jesus i hemmelighet og sa: "Hvorfor kunne ikke vi drive den ut?"

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, "Why weren't we able to cast it out?"

Han sa til dem: "På grunn av deres vantro. For sannelig sier jeg dere, hvis dere har tro som et sennepsfrø, kan dere si til dette fjellet: 'Flytt deg herfra til der,' og det vil flytte seg; ingenting vil være umulig for dere.

He said to them, "Because of your unbelief. For most assuredly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Men denne typen går ikke ut uten ved bønn og faste."

But this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting."

Mens de oppholdt seg i Galilea, sa Jesus til dem: "Menneskesønnen skal snart overgis i menneskers hender,

While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,

og de skal drepe ham, og på den tredje dagen skal han reises opp." De ble meget bedrøvet.

and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up." They were exceedingly sorry.

Da de var kommet til Kapernaum, kom de som krevde didrakme-mynter til Peter og sa: "Betaler ikke din mester didrakme?"

When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins{A didrachma is a Greek silver coin worth 2 drachmas, about as much as 2 Roman denarii, or about 2 days wages. It was commonly used to pay the half-shekel temple tax, because 2 drachmas were worth one half shekel of silver.} came to Peter, and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the didrachma?"

Han sa: "Jo." Da han kom inn i huset, sa Jesus før han kunne snakke: "Hva mener du, Simon? Fra hvem tar jordens konger toll eller skatt? Fra sine barn eller fra fremmede?"

He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?"

Peter svarte: "Fra fremmede." Jesus sa til ham: "Da er barna fri.

Peter said to him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt.

Men for ikke å være til anstøt for dem, gå ned til sjøen og kast ut en krok, og ta den første fisken som kommer opp; når du åpner dens munn, vil du finne en statérmynt. Ta den og gi dem for meg og deg."

But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin.{A stater is a silver coin equivalent to four Attic or two Alexandrian drachmas, or a Jewish shekel: just exactly enough to cover the half-shekel Temple Tax for two people.} Take that, and give it to them for me and you."
