Saul talte til Jonatan, sin sønn, og til alle tjenerne sine om å drepe David. Men Jonatan, Sauls sønn, satte stor pris på David.

Saul spoke to his son Jonathan and to all his servants, commanding them to kill David. But Jonathan, Saul's son, held a deep affection for David.

Jonatan fortalte David og sa: "Min far Saul planlegger å drepe deg. Vær derfor på vakt i morgen tidlig. Skjul deg på et hemmelig sted og hold deg borte.

Jonathan warned David, saying, "My father Saul is seeking to kill you. So please be on guard in the morning; find a safe hiding place and stay there.

I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are hiding. I will speak with him about you, and if I learn anything, I will let you know.

Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul, his father, saying, "The king should not sin against his servant David. He has done no wrong to you; on the contrary, his actions have greatly benefited you.

Han våget sitt liv og drepte filisteren, og Herren skapte en stor seier for hele Israel. Du så det og gledet deg. Hvorfor vil du da synde mot uskyldig blod ved å drepe David uten grunn?"

He risked his life to kill the Philistine, and the LORD brought about a great victory for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. So why would you sin by shedding innocent blood by killing David without cause?

Saul lyttet til Jonatans ord og sverget: "Så sant Herren lever, han skal ikke bli drept."

Saul listened to Jonathan and swore, "As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be put to death."

Jonatan kalte så på David og fortalte ham alt dette. Deretter førte Jonatan David til Saul, og David var hos ham som før.

Then Jonathan called David and told him everything. He brought David to Saul, and David was once again in Saul’s presence as before.

En krig brøt igjen ut, og David dro ut og kjempet mot filisterne. Han slo dem med et stort nederlag, og de flyktet for ham.

War broke out again. David went out to fight the Philistines and struck them with a great slaughter, causing them to flee before him.

En ond ånd fra Herren kom over Saul mens han satt i huset med spydet i hånden, og David spilte musikk.

But an evil spirit from the LORD came upon Saul while he was sitting in his house with his spear in hand, and David was playing music with his lyre.

Saul forsøkte å stikke David med spydet i veggen, men David vek til side fra Saul, så spydet gikk inn i veggen. David flyktet og unnslapp den natten.

Saul attempted to pin David to the wall with his spear, but David dodged, and the spear struck the wall. David fled and escaped that night.

Saul sendte bud til Davids hus for å vokte ham og for å drepe ham om morgenen. Men Mikal, Davids hustru, advarte ham: "Hvis du ikke redder livet ditt i natt, vil du bli drept i morgen."

Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, warned him, saying, 'If you don’t escape tonight, you will be killed in the morning.'

Mikal lot David klatre ut gjennom vinduet, og han gikk sin vei, flyktet og slapp unna.

So Michal let David down through the window, and he fled and escaped.

Mikal tok husguden og la den i sengen. Hun la et nett av geitehår ved hodet og dekket det til med klær.

Michal then took a household idol, placed it in the bed, put a quilt made of goat's hair at its head, and covered it with a garment.

Saul sendte bud for å ta David, men hun sa: "Han er syk."

When Saul sent messengers to capture David, Michal said, 'He is sick.'

Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, 'Bring him to me in his bed so I can kill him.'

When the messengers arrived, they found the household idol in the bed, with a quilt of goat's hair at its head.

Saul sa til Mikal: "Hvorfor har du lurt meg slik og latt fienden min slippe unna?" Mikal svarte Saul: "Han sa til meg: 'La meg gå, ellers dreper jeg deg.'"

Saul said to Michal, 'Why have you deceived me like this? You let my enemy go, and he has escaped.' Michal answered Saul, 'He said to me,

David flyktet og unnslapp, og han kom til Samuel i Rama. Han fortalte ham alt som Saul hadde gjort mot ham. Deretter dro han og Samuel og bodde i Naiot.

David fled and escaped. He went to Samuel at Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth.

When Saul was told, 'David is at Naioth in Ramah,' he acted accordingly.

Saul sent messengers to capture David. But when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel presiding over them, the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also began to prophesy.

When Saul was informed of this, he sent another group of messengers, but they too began to prophesy. Saul sent a third group, and they also prophesied.

Da dro han selv til Rama og kom til den store brønnen i Seku og spurte: "Hvor er Samuel og David?" Og han fikk svaret: "De er i Naiot i Rama."

Finally, Saul himself went to Ramah. He came to the great cistern at Secu and asked, 'Where are Samuel and David?' Someone answered, 'They are at Naioth in Ramah.'

Han dro dit til Naiot i Rama. Da kom Guds Ånd også over ham, og han gikk og profeterte helt til han kom til Naiot i Rama.

So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. But the Spirit of God came upon him as well, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth.

Han kledde av seg klærne og profeterte også foran Samuel. Han lå der naken hele den dagen og hele natten. Derfor sier man: "Er også Saul blant profetene?"

There he stripped off his robes and also prophesied in Samuel's presence. He lay down naked all that day and night. This is why people say, 'Is Saul also among the prophets?'
