The Spirit of God came upon Azariah, the son of Oded.

He went out to meet Asa and said to him, 'Listen to me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.'

I lange tider har Israel vært uten den sanne Gud, uten en prest som underviser, og uten loven.

For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without the law.

Men i sin nød vendte de seg til Herren, Israels Gud; de søkte ham, og han lot seg finne av dem.

But in their trouble, they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, sought Him, and He was found by them.

I de dagene var det ingen fred for de som dro ut eller kom inn, for det var stor uro blant alle innbyggerne i landene.

In those days, there was no peace for those who went out or those who came in, but great unrest troubled all the inhabitants of the lands.

Nasjon var knust av nasjon og by av by, for Gud hadde plaget dem med alle slags trengsler.

Nation was crushed by nation and city by city, for God troubled them with every kind of distress.

Men dere, vær sterke, og la ikke hendene deres bli svake, for deres arbeid har en lønn.

But you, be strong and do not let your hands hang limp, for your work will be rewarded.

Da Asa hørte disse ordene og profetien fra profeten Oded, tok han mot til seg og fjernet de avskyelige avgudene fra hele Juda og Benjamin og fra de byene han hadde inntatt i Efraims fjell. Han gjenreiste Herrens alter som sto foran Herrens tempelforhall.

When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the LORD’s temple.

Han samlet hele Juda og Benjamin, sammen med de innflytterne fra Efraim, Manasse og Simeon, for mange fra Israel hadde kommet over til ham da de så at Herren hans Gud var med ham.

Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and those from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had settled among them, for a great number had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.

De samlet seg i Jerusalem i den tredje måneden av det femtende året av Asas regjering.

They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.

On that day they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought.

They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.

Anyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.

They took an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with rams' horns.

Hele Juda gledet seg over eden, for de hadde sverget av hele sitt hjerte og søkt ham med hele sin vilje, og han lot seg finne av dem, og Herren ga dem fred på alle kanter.

All Judah rejoiced over the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought the LORD eagerly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.

Selv Maaka, kong Asas mor, ble fjernet fra hennes stilling som dronningmor fordi hun hadde laget en motbydelig avgudsfigur for Asjera. Asa hogde ned den motbydelige figuren, knuste den og brente den i Kedron-dalen.

King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made an obscene image for Asherah. Asa cut down her obscene image, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

Men offerhaugene ble ikke fjernet fra Israel; likevel var Asas hjerte helhjertet med Herren hele hans liv.

Although the high places were not removed from Israel, Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all his life.

He brought into the house of God the silver, gold, and articles that he and his father had dedicated.

Og det var ingen krig før det trettifemte året av Asas kongedømme.

There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
