Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, 'Gird your loins, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilead.'

Når du kommer dit, se etter Jehu, sønn av Josjafat, sønn av Nimsi. Gå inn, få ham bort fra hans brødre, og før ham inn i et indre rom.

When you arrive there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi. Go to him, make him rise from among his companions, and lead him into an inner room.

Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, saying, 'This is what the LORD says: I anoint you as king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee; do not delay!

Den unge mannen, profetlærlingen, dro til Ramot i Gilead.

So the young servant of the prophet went to Ramoth-Gilead.

Da han kom dit, satt hærførerne samlet. Han sa: 'Jeg har et budskap til deg, herre.' Jehu spurte: 'Til hvem av oss?' Mannen svarte: 'Til deg, herre.'

When he arrived, he found the commanders of the army sitting together. He said, 'Commander, I have a message for you.' Jehu asked, 'For which one of us?' He replied, 'For you, commander.'

Da reiste Jehu seg og gikk inn i huset. Den unge mannen helte oljen over hodet hans og sa: 'Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Jeg har salvet deg til konge over Herrens folk, Israel.

Jehu got up and went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on his head and said, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the LORD's people, Israel.'

Du skal slå din herre Ahabs hus. Jeg vil hevne blodet av mine tjenere profetene og av alle Herrens tjenere på Jesabel.

You shall strike down the house of your master Ahab, so that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets and the blood of all the LORD's servants shed by Jezebel.

Hele Ahabs hus skal gå til grunne. Jeg skal utrydde fra Ahab enhver mannsperson, både bundet og fri, i Israel.

The entire house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off every male from Ahab's line, both slave and free, in Israel.

I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah.

And dogs will devour Jezebel in the plot of land at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.' Then he opened the door and fled.

When Jehu went out to the servants of his master, they asked, 'Is everything alright? Why did this madman come to you?' He replied, 'You know the sort of man and his babble.'

De sa: 'Du taler løgn! Fortell oss det!' Da sa Jehu: 'Han sa til meg: Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet deg til konge over Israel.'

They said, 'That's not true! Tell us!' So he said, 'This is what he said to me: “This is what the LORD says: I anoint you king over Israel.”'

Straks skyndte de seg, tok mantlene sine, la dem under ham på trappens nakne stein, blåste i horn og ropte: 'Jehu er konge!'

They quickly took their garments, spread them under him on the bare steps, blew the trumpet, and proclaimed, 'Jehu is king!'

Så dannet Jehu, sønn av Josjafat, sønn av Nimsi, en konspirasjon mot Joram. Joram hadde vært i Ramot i Gilead, for han og hele Israel forsvarte seg mot kong Hasael av Aram.

So Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth-Gilead against Hazael king of Aram.

Men kong Joram vendte tilbake til Jisreel for å bli helbredet for sårene arameerne hadde påført ham i kamp mot Hasael, Arams konge. Da sa Jehu: 'Dersom dette er deres vilje, la ingen slippe ut av byen for å fortelle det videre i Jisreel.'

But King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. Jehu said, 'If this is your will, let no one escape from the city to report this in Jezreel.'

Then Jehu rode to Jezreel, for Joram was resting there, and Ahaziah king of Judah had gone down to see him.

When the watchman standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu's company approaching, he called out, 'I see a company!' Joram said, 'Send a rider to meet them and ask, “Do you come in peace?”'

So a horseman went out to meet them and said, 'This is what the king says: Do you come in peace?' Jehu replied, 'What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.' And the watchman reported, 'The messenger reached them but has not returned.'

The king sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, 'This is what the king says: Do you come in peace?' Jehu answered, 'What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.'

Vaktmannen meldte: 'Han har kommet fram til dem, men vender ikke tilbake. Måten de kjører på, er som Jehu, Nimsi-sønnens, for han kjører som en galning.'

The watchman reported, 'He has reached them, but he has not returned. The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives furiously!'

Joram ordered, 'Hitch up my chariot.' When it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They found him on the plot of land that had belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite.

Da Joram så Jehu, spurte han: 'Er det fred, Jehu?' Han svarte: 'Hvilken fred kan det være så lenge din mor Jesabel sprer sitt horeri og sin trolldom?'

When Joram saw Jehu, he asked, 'Do you come in peace, Jehu?' Jehu replied, 'How can there be peace as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?'

Joram svingte vognen og flyktet, og han ropte til Ahazja: 'Forræderi, Ahazja!'

Joram turned around and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, 'Treachery, Ahaziah!'

Men Jehu tok buen, spente den og skjøt Joram mellom skuldrene. Pilen gikk gjennom hjertet, og han sank sammen i vognen.

Then Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Joram between his shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart, and he sank down in his chariot.

Jehu sa til Bidkar, offiseren sin: 'Ta ham opp og kast ham på Nabots jisreelittens åker. For husk hvordan vi to red sammen med hans far Ahab da Herren uttalte dette budskapet mot ham:

Then Jehu said to Bidkar, his officer, 'Take him and throw him on the plot of land that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father when the LORD pronounced this judgment against him.'

'Jeg så Nabots og sønnene hans blod i går, sier Herren. Jeg vil gjengjelde dette på denne åkeren, sier Herren.' Så kast ham der, som Herren har sagt.

'Surely I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons yesterday, declares the LORD, and I will repay you in this plot of land, declares the LORD. Now then, throw him on that plot of land, just as the word of the LORD declared.'

Da Judas konge Ahazja så dette, flyktet han på veien opp mot Beth-Haggan. Jehu forfulgte ham og ropte: 'Slå ham også ned!' De såret ham i vognen på Gur-oppstigningen nær Jivleam. Han flyktet til Megiddo og døde der.

When Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled along the road to Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, 'Shoot him too!' They struck him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he fled to Megiddo and died there.

Tjenerne hans førte ham til Jerusalem i en vogn og gravla ham blant hans fedre i Davidsbyen.

His servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David.

Ahazja hadde blitt konge over Juda i det ellevte året til Joram, Ahabs sønn.

In the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.

Da Jehu kom til Jisreel og Jesabel hørte det, sminket hun øynene, pyntet håret og kikket ut av vinduet.

When Jehu arrived in Jezreel, Jezebel heard about it. She painted her eyes, arranged her hair, and looked out of a window.

Da Jehu kom inn gjennom porten, sa hun: 'Er det fred, du Zimri, som har drept sin herre?'

As Jehu entered the gate, she called out, 'Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?'

Han løftet blikket mot vinduet og sa: 'Hvem er med meg? Hvem?' To eller tre hoffmenn kikket ned.

He looked up at the window and called out, 'Who is on my side? Who?' Two or three eunuchs looked down at him.

Han sa: 'Kast henne ned!' Så kastet de henne ned, og blodet hennes sprutet på veggen og hestene. De trampet henne ned.

He said, 'Throw her down!' So they threw her down, and some of her blood splattered on the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.

Han gikk inn, spiste og drakk, og sa: 'Se til denne forbannede kvinnen og gravlegg henne, for hun er en kongedatter.'

Jehu went inside, ate and drank, and then said, 'Attend to this cursed woman and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.'

But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing of her except the skull, the feet, and the palms of her hands.

De vendte tilbake og fortalte dette til Jehu, som sa: 'Dette er Herrens ord, som han talte gjennom sin tjener Elias, tisjbiten: På Jisreels område skal hundene ete kjøttet av Jesabel.

They went back and told Jehu, who said, 'This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: “In the plot of land at Jezreel, dogs will devour the flesh of Jezebel.”'

Jesabels lik skal ligge som gjødsel på marken i Jisreels område, så ingen kan si: Dette er Jesabel.'

'Jezebel’s body will be like dung on the field in the plot of land at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, “This is Jezebel.”'
