Saul was in full agreement with his execution. On that day, a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all the believers, except the apostles, were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.

Devout men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him.

But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.

Those who had been scattered went about spreading the good news of the word.

Filip dro ned til en by i Samaria og forkynte Kristus for dem.

Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed Christ to them.

Folkemengdene ga nøye akt på det som ble sagt av Filip i enighet, mens de hørte og så de tegn han gjorde.

The crowds, united in one mind, paid close attention to what Philip was saying as they heard and saw the miraculous signs he was performing.

For fra mange av dem som hadde urene ånder, kom de ut med høye rop, og mange lamme og halte ble helbredet.

For many who were possessed by unclean spirits were freed as the spirits came out, crying out in a loud voice, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed.

Det ble stor glede i byen.

So there was great joy in that city.

Men det var en mann ved navn Simon, som tidligere hadde praktisert trolldom i byen og oppsøker folket i Samaria, mens han sa at han var noe stort.

Now there was a man named Simon who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great.

De alle ga akt på ham fra liten til stor og sa: 'Denne mannen er den store Guds kraft.'

Everyone, from the least to the greatest, paid attention to him and said, 'This man is the great power of God.'

De ga ham derfor akt, fordi han i lang tid hadde fortryllet dem med sin trolldom.

They followed him because he had amazed them with his magic for a long time.

Men da de trodde på Filip, som forkynte evangeliet om Guds rike og Jesu Kristi navn, ble de døpt, både menn og kvinner.

But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Simon selv trodde også, og etter at han var blitt døpt, holdt han seg til Filip og var forundret over de tegn og store mirakler som fant sted.

Even Simon himself believed, and after he was baptized, he stayed close to Philip, and he marveled as he watched the signs and miracles that were happening.

Da apostlene i Jerusalem hørte at Samaria hadde tatt imot Guds ord, sendte de til dem både Peter og Johannes.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them.

When they arrived, they prayed for them to receive the Holy Spirit,

For Ånden hadde ennå ikke kommet over noen av dem, men de var bare blitt døpt til Herrens Jesu navn.

For the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money.

Han sa: 'Gi meg også denne makten, så den jeg legger hendene på, kan få Den hellige ånd.'

He said, 'Give me this authority too, so that everyone I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.'

Men Peter sa til ham: 'Måtte ditt sølv gå til grunne med deg, fordi du har trodd at du kunne kjøpe Guds gave med penger.'

But Peter said to him, 'May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!'

'Du har ingen del eller lodd i denne saken, for ditt hjerte er ikke rett for Gud.'

You have no part or share in this ministry because your heart is not right before God.

'Omvend deg derfor fra denne din ondskap, og be til Gud, om han kanskje vil tilgi deg denne hjertets tanke.'

Repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such thoughts in your heart.

For jeg ser at du er i bitterhetens galle og i urettferdighetens lenker.

For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.

Simon svarte: 'Be til Herren for meg, slik at ingenting av det dere har sagt, skal komme over meg.'

Then Simon answered, 'Pray to the Lord for me, so that nothing you have said may happen to me.'

Etter at de hadde vitnet og talt Herrens ord, vendte de tilbake til Jerusalem, og forkynte evangeliet i mange av samaritanernes landsbyer.

When they had testified and proclaimed the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the good news to many Samaritan villages.

En Herrens engel talte til Filip og sa: 'Stå opp og gå mot sør til veien som går fra Jerusalem til Gaza, en ørkenvei.'

Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, 'Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.' (This is a desert road.)

Og han stod opp og dro, og se, en etiopisk mann, en hoffmann hos Kandake, dronningen av etioperne, som hadde ansvaret for hele hennes skatt, var kommet til Jerusalem for å tilbe.

So he got up and went. There he met an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and an important official in charge of all the treasury of the queen of the Ethiopians, known as Candace, who had gone to Jerusalem to worship.

He was on his way home, sitting in his chariot and reading the book of the prophet Isaiah.

The Spirit said to Philip, 'Go up to that chariot and stay near it.'

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. He asked, 'Do you understand what you are reading?'

Han svarte: 'Hvordan kan jeg det, uten at noen veileder meg?' Og han ba Filip stige opp og sitte sammen med ham.

The man replied, 'How can I understand unless someone guides me?' And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

Passasjen i Skriften han leste var denne: 'Som et får ble han ført til slakt, og som et lam som er stum for den som klipper det, åpner han ikke sin munn.'

The passage of Scripture he was reading was this: 'Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.'

'I hans fornedrelse ble dommen over ham opphevet. Hvem kan fortelle om hans slekt? For hans liv tas bort fra jorden.'

In his humiliation justice was taken away from him. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.

Hoffmannen svarte Filip og sa: 'Jeg ber deg, hvem taler profeten om, seg selv eller noen annen?'

The eunuch said to Philip, 'I ask you, who is the prophet talking about? Himself or someone else?'

Da åpnet Filip sin munn, og begynte med denne Skriften, forkynte han evangeliet om Jesus for ham.

Then Philip began to speak, and starting from this Scripture, he preached to him the good news about Jesus.

Mens de dro langs veien, kom de til et sted med vann, og hoffmannen sa: 'Se, her er vann; hva hindrer meg fra å bli døpt?'

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, 'Look, here is water! What is stopping me from being baptized?'

Filip sa: 'Hvis du tror av hele ditt hjerte, er det tillatt.' Han svarte: 'Jeg tror at Jesus Kristus er Guds Sønn.'

Philip said, 'If you believe with all your heart, you may.' The eunuch answered, 'I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.'

Han befalte at vognen skulle stanse, og begge, Filip og hoffmannen, gikk ned i vannet, og han døpte ham.

He ordered the chariot to stop, and both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

Da de kom opp av vannet, rykket Herrens Ånd Filip bort, og hoffmannen så ham ikke mer, for han dro videre sin vei med glede.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

Men Filip ble funnet i Asdod, og mens han dro igjennom, forkynte han evangeliet i alle byene, til han kom til Cæsarea.

Philip, however, was found at Azotus, and as he traveled, he preached the good news in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
