This is what the Lord God showed me: He was forming a swarm of locusts at the beginning of the late crop, after the royal harvest.

This is what the Lord God showed me: The Lord was calling for judgment by fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the land.

Then I said, 'Lord God, please stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!'

So the Lord relented concerning this: 'This will not happen either,' said the Lord God.

This is what He showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall built true to plumb, with a plumb line in His hand.

The Lord asked me, 'What do you see, Amos?' I replied, 'A plumb line.' Then the Lord said, 'I am setting a plumb line among My people Israel. I will no longer spare them.'

The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Then Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying, 'Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.'

For Amos says, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile, away from their own land.'

Then Amaziah said to Amos, 'Seer, go and flee to the land of Judah; there you can earn your bread and prophesy there.'

'But never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and the temple of the kingdom.'

Da svarte Amos og sa til Amasja: "Jeg er ikke profet eller en profets sønn, men jeg er en gjeter og samler morbærfiken.

Amos answered Amaziah, 'I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a herdsman and a tender of sycamore figs.'

Men Herren tok meg fra flokken og sa til meg: 'Gå, profetér for mitt folk Israel.'"

But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, 'Go, prophesy to My people Israel.'

Så hør nå Herrens ord! Du sier: 'Du skal ikke profetere mot Israel, og ikke preke mot Isaks hus.'

Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord: You say, 'Do not prophesy against Israel and do not preach against the house of Isaac.'

Derfor sier Herren: 'Din hustru skal bli en skjøge i byen, dine sønner og døtre skal falle for sverdet, ditt land skal bli delt med målesnor, og du skal dø på uren jord. Og Israel skal bli ført i eksil bort fra sitt land.'"

Therefore, this is what the Lord says: 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be divided up with a measuring line, and you yourself will die in a polluted land. Israel will surely go into exile away from their homeland.'
