These are the commandments, statutes, and judgments that the LORD your God commanded to teach you to carry out in the land you are about to cross into and possess.

Teach them diligently to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.

When the LORD your God brings you into the land He swore to your ancestors—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to you, with cities great and good that you did not build,

with houses full of every good thing that you did not fill, wells that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—when you eat and are satisfied.

For the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God. His anger will burn against you, and He will destroy you from the face of the earth.

Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may go well with you, and you may go in and possess the good land the LORD promised to your ancestors.

He will drive out all your enemies before you, as the LORD has promised.

In the future, when your son asks you, 'What is the meaning of the testimonies, statutes, and judgments that the LORD our God has commanded you?'

Da skal du si til din sønn: Vi var Faraos treller i Egypt, men Herren førte oss ut av Egypt med sterk hånd.

You shall say to your son: 'We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.'

Herren sendte tegn og store og ødeleggende under i Egypt, mot Farao og hele hans hus, for våre øyne.

The LORD performed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh, and his whole household.

Han førte oss derfra, for å føre oss inn og gi oss det landet som han lovet våre fedre.

But He brought us out from there to lead us in and give us the land that He swore to our fathers.

Herren bød oss å gjøre alle disse forskriftene, å frykte Herren vår Gud, for at det skulle gå oss godt alltid, for at han kunne bevare vårt liv, slik han har gjort til i dag.

The LORD commanded us to obey all these statutes and to fear the LORD our God for our own good always, so that He might preserve our lives, as it is today.

Og dette skal være vår rettferdighet: at vi holder alle disse budene for Herrens, vår Guds, ansikt, slik han har befalt oss.

It will be righteousness for us if we carefully obey all these commandments before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us.
