The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of Israel's elders, and worship from a distance."

Only Moses is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near, and the people must not go up with him.

Moses came and told the people all the LORD's words and laws. The people responded with one voice, saying, "We will do everything the LORD has said."

Moses skrev ned alle Herrens ord. Tidlig neste morgen reiste han et alter ved foten av fjellet, med tolv steinstøtter for de tolv Israels stammer.

Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. Early the next morning, he built an altar at the base of the mountain and set up twelve pillars representing the twelve tribes of Israel.

Then he sent young men of the Israelites, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the LORD.

Moses took half of the blood and put it in bowls, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar.

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They said, "We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey."

Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you concerning all these words."

Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.

Og de så Israels Gud, og under hans føtter var det som et verk av safirfliser, lik himmelen i klarhet.

They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement of sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself.

Men han la ikke hånd på Israels barns fornemme menn. De skuet Gud og spiste og drakk.

But God did not raise his hand against the leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.

Herren sa til Moses: «Kom opp til meg på fjellet og bli der, så vil jeg gi deg steintavlene, loven og budet som jeg har skrevet for å lære dem.»

The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay there, so I can give you the stone tablets with the law and commandments I have written to teach them."

So Moses set out with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

Then Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day, the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud.

The appearance of the LORD's glory was like a consuming fire on the mountaintop in the sight of the Israelites.

Moses gikk inn i skyen og steg opp på fjellet, og han ble der i førti dager og førti netter.

Moses entered the cloud as he went up the mountain, and he stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
