Joseph could no longer hold back his emotions in front of everyone standing near him, so he called out, 'Have everyone leave my presence!' No one remained with him when Joseph revealed himself to his brothers.

Joseph wept so loudly as he raised his voice in crying that the Egyptians heard it, and Pharaoh’s household also heard about it.

Josef sa til sine brødre: «Jeg er Josef! Lever min far ennå?» Men hans brødre kunne ikke svare ham, for de sto lamslått foran ham.

Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?' But his brothers could not answer him because they were so shocked and dismayed by his presence.

Så sa Josef til sine brødre: «Kom nærmere meg, vær så snill.» De kom nærmere, og han sa: «Jeg er Josef, deres bror, som dere solgte til Egypt.»

Then Joseph said to his brothers, 'Please come closer to me.' They came closer, and he said, 'I am Joseph, your brother, the one you sold into Egypt.'

«Men nå, vær ikke bedrøvet, og la det ikke være bitterhet i deres øyne for at dere solgte meg hit. For Gud sendte meg foran dere for å bevare liv.»

Now, do not be distressed or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life.

«For det har vært sult i landet i to år, og det kommer enda fem år uten pløying eller høsting.»

For two years now, there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years, there will be no plowing or harvesting.

«Gud sendte meg foran dere for å bevare en rest for dere på jorden og for å holde dere i live ved en stor redning.»

But God sent me ahead of you to establish a remnant for you on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

«Så nå er det ikke dere som sendte meg hit, men Gud. Han har gjort meg til en rådmann for farao, en herre over hele hans hus, og en hersker over hele Egypt.»

So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me like a father to Pharaoh, lord over all his household, and a ruler throughout Egypt.

Skynd dere og dra opp til min far og si til ham: ‘Så sier din sønn Josef: Gud har gjort meg til herre over hele Egypt. Kom ned til meg, drøye ikke!’

Hurry and go up to my father and tell him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord over all Egypt. Come down to me; do not delay.’

«Du skal bo i landet Goshen og være nær meg, du, dine sønner og sønnesønner, dine sauer og storfe og alt det du har.»

You shall dwell in the land of Goshen and be near me—you, your children, your grandchildren, your flocks, your herds, and everything you have.

«Jeg vil sørge for deg der, for det er enda fem år igjen av hungersnøden, så du ikke skal miste både du, ditt hus og alt det du har.»

I will provide for you there, because there are still five years of famine to come, so that neither you, your household, nor anything that belongs to you will fall into poverty.

Look, your own eyes and the eyes of my brother Benjamin can see that it is my own mouth speaking to you.

Tell my father about all the honor that I have in Egypt and everything you have seen. Hurry and bring my father down here.

Så kastet han seg om halsen på Benjamin, sin bror, og gråt. Benjamin gråt også på hans hals.

Then he threw himself on the neck of his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck.

Og han kysset alle sine brødre og gråt over dem. Etter dette talte hans brødre med ham.

Joseph kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward, his brothers talked with him.

Nyheten ble hørt i faraos hus: «Josefs brødre har kommet.» Det gledet farao og hans tjenere.

The news reached Pharaoh' palace

Farao sa til Josef: «Si til dine brødre: Gjør dette! Laste deres dyr og dra til Kanaans land.»

Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Tell your brothers to do this: Load your animals and go back to the land of Canaan.'

«Ta deres far og deres husfolk og kom til meg, så vil jeg gi dere landet Egypts rikdom, og dere skal spise av det beste i landet.»

Then bring your father and your households and come back to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat from the fat of the land.

«Dere er også befalt: Gjør dette! Ta vogner fra Egypt for deres barn og hustruer, og før deres far og kom hit.»

You are also instructed to do this: Take wagons from Egypt for your children and your wives, and bring your father and come.

«La ikke deres øyne ha medfølelse for det dere eier, for det beste i hele Egypt er deres.»

Do not worry about your belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.

Israelittene gjorde som det ble sagt, og Josef ga dem vogner i henhold til faraos befaling, og han ga dem proviant på veien.

The sons of Israel did as they were told. Joseph gave them wagons as Pharaoh had commanded and provisions for their journey.

Til hver av dem ga han skiftende klær, men til Benjamin ga han tre hundre sølvstykker og fem skift.

To each of them, he gave a set of clothing, but to Benjamin, he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five sets of clothing.

Til sin far sendte han ti esler lastet med det beste av Egypt og ti eselhopper lastet med korn, brød og annen mat til reisen.

To his father, he sent ten donkeys loaded with the finest goods of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and provisions for the journey.

Han sendte sine brødre av sted og sa til dem: «Krangle ikke på veien.»

Then Joseph sent his brothers away, and as they left, he said to them, 'Do not quarrel on the way.'

Så dro de opp fra Egypt og kom til Kanaans land til Jakob, deres far.

So they went up from Egypt and came to Canaan to their father Jacob.

De fortalte ham og sa: «Josef lever fortsatt, og han er hersker over hele Egypt.» Jakobs hjerte ble følelsesløst, for han trodde dem ikke.

They told him, 'Joseph is still alive! He is even ruling over all the land of Egypt!' But Jacob was stunned and did not believe them.

Men da de fortalte ham alle Josefs ord som han hadde sagt til dem, og han så vognene som Josef hadde sendt for å frakte ham, levde Jakobs ånd opp igjen.

But when they reported all the words Joseph had spoken to them, and when he saw the wagons that Joseph had sent to carry him, their father Jacob’s spirit revived.

Israel sa: «Det er nok! Min sønn Josef lever fortsatt. Jeg vil dra og se ham før jeg dør.»

Then Israel said, 'I am convinced! My son Joseph is still alive! I will go and see him before I die.'
