A shoot will come forth from the trunk of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

Herrens ånd skal hvile over ham, en ånd av visdom og forstand, en ånd av råd og styrke, en ånd av kunnskap og frykt for Herren.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest upon him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and reverence for the LORD.

Han skal ha sin glede i frykt for Herren. Han skal ikke dømme etter det øynene ser, og ikke avgjøre etter det ørene hører.

And his delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what his eyes see, nor decide by what his ears hear.

But he will judge the poor with righteousness, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

Rettferdighet skal være beltet om hans hofter, og trofasthet beltet om hans midje.

Righteousness will be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his hips.

Ulven skal bo sammen med lammet, leoparden ligge ved kjeet. Kalven, ungløven og fétet sammen; en liten gutt skal lede dem.

The wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat. The calf, the lion, and the fatted cattle will be together, and a little child will lead them.

Ku og bjørn skal beite, deres unger skal ligge sammen. Løven skal spise halm som oksen.

The cow and the bear will graze; their young ones will lie down together. The lion will eat straw like the ox.

Et spedbarn skal leke ved kobras hule, og et avvent barn strekker hånden mot hoggormens hule.

The nursing child will play near the cobra’s hole, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

De skal ikke gjøre noe ondt eller skade noen på hele mitt hellige fjell, for jorden skal fylles med kunnskap om Herren, likesom vannet dekker havet.

They will neither harm nor destroy on my entire holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

Den dagen skal Isais rotstå som et banner for folkeslagene. Til ham skal nasjonene søke, og hans bolig skal være herlighet.

In that day, the root of Jesse will stand as a signal for the peoples. The nations will seek him, and his resting place will be glorious.

På den dagen skal Herren igjen rekke ut hånden for å frikjøpe resten av sitt folk som er igjen fra Assyria, Egypt, Patros, Kusj, Elam, Sinear, Hamat og øyene i havet.

In that day, the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant of his people who are left from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the islands of the sea.

Han skal løfte et banner for nasjonene, samle de fordrevne av Israel og de spredte av Juda fra de fire jordens hjørner.

He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the outcasts of Israel. He will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Efraims misunnelse skal forsvinne, og Judas fiender skal bli ødelagt. Efraim skal ikke være misunnelig på Juda, og Juda skal ikke være fiendtlig mot Efraim.

The jealousy of Ephraim will be removed, and the enemies of Judah will be cut off. Ephraim will no longer envy Judah, and Judah will no longer harass Ephraim.

Together they will swoop down on the shoulders of the Philistines to the west; they will plunder the people of the east. They will lay hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them.

Herren skal ødelegge Egypts havetunge, over elven skal han svinge sin hånd med sin mektige ånd, og han skal slå den i syv strømmer så folk kan gå over i sandaler.

The LORD will utterly destroy the tongue of the Sea of Egypt. With a scorching wind, He will wave His hand over the River and divide it into seven streams, allowing people to cross in sandals.

Det skal være en vei for resten av hans folk som er igjen fra Assyria, slik som det var for Israel den dagen de gikk opp fra Egypts land.

There will be a highway for the remnant of His people who remain from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.
