In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and exalted throne, and the train of His robe filled the temple.

Above Him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew.

And they were calling to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!"

The foundations of the thresholds shook at the sound of the voices of those who called, and the temple was filled with smoke.

Then I said, "Woe to me! For I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts."

Then one of the seraphim flew to me. He had a glowing coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.

He touched my mouth with it and said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity is removed, and your sin is atoned for."

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us?" And I said, "Here I am. Send me!"

Han sa: «Gå og si til dette folket: Hør vedvarende, men forstå ikke! Se igjen og igjen, men kjenn ikke!»

And He said, "Go, and say to this people: ‘Keep listening, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not perceive.’

Gjør dette folkets hjerte hardt, gjør ørene tunge og lukk øynene deres, så de ikke ser med øynene, hører med ørene, forstår med hjertet, vender om og blir helbredet.»

Make the hearts of this people dull, their ears heavy, and their eyes blind; otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back and be healed."

Da spurte jeg: «Herre, hvor lenge?» Han svarte: «Inntil byene ligger øde uten innbyggere, husene er uten mennesker, og landet ligger øde og forlatt.»

Then I said, "For how long, Lord?" And He replied, "Until cities lie ruined without inhabitants, houses are unoccupied, and the land is desolate and devastated.

Herren vil sende menneskene langt bort, og det vil bli mye øde blant de gjenværende i landet.

The LORD will drive the people far away, and the abandonment in the land will be great.

Og selv om en tiendedel gjenstår i landet, vil det igjen bli ødelagt, men som når en eik eller en terebinth felles, så er det en stubb igjen som et hellig frø.»

Yet a tenth will remain in the land, and it will once again be ravaged. Like a terebinth or an oak whose stump remains when it is felled, the holy seed is its stump.
