Så sier Herren: Gå og kjøp en leirkanne av pottemakeren. Ta med noen av eldrene blant folket og prestene.

This is what the LORD said: Go and buy a clay jar from a potter. Take some of the elders of the people and of the priests with you.

Gå ut til Hinnoms sønns dal, ved inngangen til Porselensporten, og forkynn der de ord jeg sier til deg.

Go out to the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, near the entrance of the Potsherd Gate, and there proclaim the words I tell you.

Du skal si: Hør Herrens ord, Judas konger og Jerusalems innbyggere. Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg bringer ulykke over dette stedet, så alle som hører om det vil få ørene til å dirre.

Say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, you kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to bring disaster on this place that will make the ears of anyone who hears of it tingle.

For de har forlatt meg, gjort dette stedet fremmed, brent røkelse til andre guder som verken de, deres fedre eller Judas konger kjente til, og fylt dette stedet med uskyldiges blod.

For they have abandoned Me and made this place foreign. They have burned incense here to other gods—gods that neither they, their ancestors, nor the kings of Judah have known. And they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

De har bygd offerhauger til Baal for å brenne sine sønner i ilden som brennoffer til Baal, noe jeg ikke har befalt, ikke har talt og det har ikke kommet opp i mitt hjerte.

They have built high places to Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or speak of, nor did it ever enter My mind.

Derfor kommer de dager, sier Herren, hvor dette stedet ikke lenger skal kalles Tofet eller Hinnoms sønns dal, men Slaktedal.

So beware! The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

Jeg skal gjøre Judas og Jerusalems planer til intet på dette stedet. Jeg skal la dem falle for sverdet foran deres fiender og for dem som vil ta deres liv. Jeg vil gi deres lik til mat for himmelens fugler og jordens dyr.

In this place, I will ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies and at the hands of those who seek their lives. I will give their dead bodies as food to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth.

Jeg skal gjøre denne byen til en ruinhaug og til spott. Hver den som går forbi vil bli forferdet og hånfløyte over alle hennes sår.

I will make this city desolate and an object of scorn. Everyone who passes by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds.

Jeg vil få dem til å spise kjøttet av sine egne sønner og døtre, og de skal spise hverandres kjøtt i beleiringen og i den trengsel som deres fiender og de som står dem etter livet, skal føre over dem.

I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh because of the siege and distress that their enemies and those who seek their lives will impose on them.

Så skal du knuse karet foran øynene til mennene som går med deg.

Then you are to break the jar in the presence of those who are with you.

Og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Slik vil jeg knuse dette folket og denne byen, slik at det ikke kan repareres igjen. I Tofet skal de begrave dødningene fordi det ikke er noen andre steder å begrave dem.

And say to them, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I will break this people and this city as one breaks a potter’s jar that cannot be repaired. They will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room to bury.’

På denne måten skal jeg gjøre med dette stedet og dets innbyggere, sier Herren, slik jeg har gjort Tofet.

This is what I will do to this place and to its inhabitants, declares the LORD: I will make this city like Topheth.

Byens hus og kongenes hus i Juda skal bli som Tofet, uren for alle de hus som de har ofret røkelse til himmelens hærskare på og øst ut drikkoffer til andre guder på takene.

The houses in Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will become defiled like this place, Topheth—all the houses where they burned incense on their roofs to all the starry hosts and poured out drink offerings to other gods.

Så kom Jeremia fra Tofet, hvor Herren hadde sendt ham for å profetere, og han sto i forgården til Herrens hus og sa til hele folket,

Jeremiah then returned from Topheth, where the LORD had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the court of the LORD’s temple and said to all the people:

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Se, jeg bringer over denne byen alle de ulykker jeg har talt mot den og dens byer, fordi de har gjort nakken stiv så de ikke lytter til mine ord.

This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to bring upon this city and all its surrounding towns all the disaster I pronounced against them, because they have stiffened their necks and refused to listen to My words.
