From the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, until this very day—these twenty-three years—the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you repeatedly, but you have not listened.

Herren har sendt alle sine tjenere, profetene, til dere, tidlig og vedvarende, men dere har ikke lyttet eller vendt ørene deres mot å høre.

The LORD has sent all His servants the prophets to you again and again, but you have not listened or inclined your ears to hear.

They said, 'Turn now, each of you, from your evil way and from your evil actions. Dwell in the land that the LORD gave to you and your ancestors forever and ever.

Do not follow other gods to serve them or worship them. Do not provoke me to anger with the works of your hands; then I will not bring disaster upon you.'

But you have not listened to me, declares the LORD, and you have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, to your own harm.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Hosts says: 'Because you have not listened to my words—

I am about to send for all the clans of the north,' declares the LORD, 'and for my servant Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and I will bring them against this land, its inhabitants, and all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them, making them an object of horror, scorn, and perpetual ruins.

Jeg skal bringe fra dem glade rop og brudens og brudgommens stemme, lyden av kverner og lampens lys.

I will banish from them the sound of joy and gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the bride, the sound of millstones and the light of the lamp.

This entire land will become a desolate ruin, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.

'But when the seventy years are completed,' declares the LORD, 'I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their guilt, and I will make it desolate forever.'

For many nations and great kings will make them serve, and I will repay them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.

They will drink, stagger, and act like madmen because of the sword I am sending among them.

So I took the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent me drink it.

alle kongene i Arabia og alle kongene av den blandede folkeskarene som bor i ørkenen;

All the kings of Arabia and the kings of the mixed peoples who live in the desert.

All the kings of Zimri, Elam, and Media.

alle kongene i nord, både nære og fjerne, en etter en, og alle rikene på jordens overflate. Og kongen av Sjesjak skal drikke etter dem.

And all the kings of the north, near and far, one after another—all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after them, the king of Sheshach will drink.

Så skal du si til dem: 'Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Drikk, bli fulle, spytt opp og fall, og stå ikke opp igjen for det sverdet som jeg sender blant dere.'

Then say to them: This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Drink, get drunk, and vomit; fall and do not rise, because of the sword I am sending among you.'

If they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, tell them, 'This is what the LORD of Hosts says: You must drink it!'

For behold, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the LORD of Hosts.

Therefore, you are to prophesy all these words to them and tell them: 'The LORD will roar from on high; He will raise His voice from His holy dwelling. He will roar mightily against His pasture; He will shout like those who tread grapes, shouting aloud against all the inhabitants of the earth.'

Lyden skal nå til jordens ender, for Herren holder sak mot folkene. Han går i rette med alt kjød og gir de onde over til sverdet, sier Herren.

The clamor will resound to the ends of the earth because the LORD has a case against the nations. He will bring judgment on all mankind and hand over the wicked to the sword,' declares the LORD.

Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: 'Se, en katastrofe går ut fra nasjon til nasjon, og en stor storm reiser seg fra jordens ytterkanter.'

This is what the LORD of Hosts says: 'Disaster is spreading from nation to nation; a great storm is being stirred up from the ends of the earth.'

On that day, those slain by the LORD will be scattered from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned, gathered, or buried; they will be like dung lying on the ground.

Hyl, dere hyrder, og rop, velt dere i støvet, dere flokkens ledere! For deres dager er kommet til slakting, og dere skal spres, og dere faller som en kostbar gjenstand.

Weep and wail, you shepherds, cry out! Roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock, for your time to be slaughtered has come. You will fall like a precious vessel.

Hyrdene finner ingen flukt, ei heller skal flokkens ledere slippe unna.

The shepherds will have no refuge, and the leaders of the flock will find no escape.

Hør ropene fra hyrdene og hylene fra flokkens ledere, for Herren ødelegger deres beitemark.

Hear the cry of the shepherds, the wailing of the leaders of the flock, for the LORD is destroying their pasture.

Deres fredelige enger har blitt lagt øde på grunn av Herrens brennende vrede.

The peaceful pastures will be silent because of the LORD's fierce anger.

Som en ung løve har han forlatt sitt dekke; og deres land har blitt ødelagt av den brutale sverdet og hans brennende vrede.

Like a lion leaving its lair, He has left His den, for their land has become a desolation because of the oppressor's wrath and the LORD's fierce anger.
