Etter Moses, Herrens tjener, var død, sa Herren til Josva, Nuns sønn og Moses' medelev:

After the death of Moses, the servant of the LORD, the LORD spoke to Joshua, son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying:

Min tjener Moses er død. Nå reis deg, gå over Jordan, du og hele dette folket, til det landet som jeg gir dem, Israels barn.

“Moses My servant is dead. Now, therefore, arise, cross over this Jordan—you and all the people—into the land that I am giving to them, to the children of Israel.

Hvert sted deres fot trår på, har jeg gitt dere, som jeg lovet Moses.

Every place the sole of your foot will tread upon, I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses.

Fra ørkenen og Libanon der borte og til den store elven, Eufrat, hele hetittenes land, og til det store havet mot vest, skal være deres grense.

Your territory will stretch from the wilderness and this Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River—all the land of the Hittites—and westward to the Great Sea, where the sun sets.

Ingen skal kunne stå seg mot deg så lenge du lever. Som jeg var med Moses, skal jeg være med deg. Jeg vil ikke slippe deg og ikke forlate deg.

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will never leave you nor abandon you.

Vær modig og sterk! For du skal gi dette folket landet i arv, det som jeg med ed lovte deres fedre å gi dem.

Be strong and courageous, for you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

Bare vær sterk og veldig modig, så du er trofast mot hele loven som Moses, min tjener, bød deg. Vik ikke av fra den, verken til høyre eller venstre, så du agir med visdom i alt du foretar deg.

Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to obey all the law that my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left so that you may be successful wherever you go.

Denne lovens bok skal ikke vike fra din munn, men du skal grunne på den dag og natt, så du kan holde og gjøre etter alt som står skrevet i den. Da skal du ha framgang, og du skal ha lykke i alt.

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips. Meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will prosper and succeed in all you do.

Har jeg ikke befalt deg å være sterk og modig? Ikke vær redd, og bli ikke forferdet! For Herren din Gud er med deg overalt hvor du går.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Josva befalte folkets skriverne og sa,

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people:

«Gå gjennom leiren og si til folket: 'Forbered proviant til dere, for om tre dager skal dere dra over Jordan her og ta landet i eie som Herren deres Gud gir dere til eiendom.'»

“Go through the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for in three days you will cross the Jordan to take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you to inherit.’”

Til Rubenittene, Gadittene og halve Manasses stamme sa Josva:

To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said:

«Husk det ordet som Herrens tjener Moses befalte dere: 'Herren deres Gud gir dere hvile og har gitt dere dette landet.'

“Remember the command that Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you when he said: ‘The LORD your God will give you rest and will give you this land.’

Deres koner, barn og buskap skal bli værende i det land Moses ga dere på den andre siden av Jordan, men dere, alle stridsdyktige, skal dra over i væpnet styrke foran deres brødre og hjelpe dem.

Your wives, your children, and your livestock may remain in the land that Moses gave you on the east side of the Jordan. But you, all your strong warriors, fully armed, must cross ahead of your brothers and help them.

Inntil Herren gir deres brødre hvile som dere, og de også inntar det landet Herren deres Gud gir dem. Så skal dere vende tilbake til deres eget land som Moses, Herrens tjener, ga dere på østsiden av Jordan.»

Until the LORD gives your brothers rest, as He has given you, and they also take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving them, then you may return to the land of your possession and settle it—the land that Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise.

De svarte Josva og sa: «Alt du har befalt oss, vil vi gjøre, og dit du sender oss, vil vi gå.

They answered Joshua, saying, “We will do everything you have commanded us, and we will go wherever you send us.

Som vi har lydt Moses i alt, slik vil vi lyde deg, bare Herren din Gud må være med deg, slik som han var med Moses.

Just as we obeyed Moses in everything, so we will obey you. Only may the LORD your God be with you as He was with Moses.

Enhver som setter seg opp mot dine befalinger og ikke lyder dine ord, hva du enn måtte befale ham, han skal dø. Bare vær sterk og modig!»

Anyone who rebels against your command and does not obey your words in all that you command shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous!
