This is the record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham fikk sønnen Isak; Isak fikk sønnen Jakob; Jakob fikk sønnen Juda og hans brødre;

Abraham was the father of Isaac; Isaac was the father of Jacob; Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.

Juda fikk sønnene Peres og Serah med Tamar; Peres fikk sønnen Hesron; Hesron fikk sønnen Ram;

Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar; Perez was the father of Hezron; Hezron was the father of Ram.

Ram fikk sønnen Amminadab; Amminadab fikk sønnen Nahson; Nahson fikk sønnen Salmon;

Ram was the father of Amminadab; Amminadab was the father of Nahshon; Nahshon was the father of Salmon.

Salmon fikk sønnen Boas med Rahab; Boas fikk sønnen Obed med Rut; Obed fikk sønnen Isai;

Hiskia fikk sønnen Manasse; Manasse fikk sønnen Amon; Amon fikk sønnen Josjia;

Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh; Manasseh was the father of Amon; Amon was the father of Josiah.

Josjia fikk sønnen Jekonja og hans brødre under bortføringen til Babylon;

Josiah was the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the exile to Babylon.

Eliud fikk sønnen Eleasar; Eleasar fikk sønnen Mattan; Mattan fikk sønnen Jakob;

Eliud was the father of Eleazar; Eleazar was the father of Matthan; Matthan was the father of Jacob.

Jakob fikk sønnen Josef, Marias mann. Av henne ble Jesus født, han som kalles Kristus.

Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations; from David to the exile to Babylon were fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon to Christ were fourteen generations.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened in this way: When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man and unwilling to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her quietly.

'She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.'

All this happened to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

"Se, jomfruen skal bli med barn og føde en sønn, og de skal gi ham navnet Immanuel" – som betyr: Gud med oss.

'Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel' (which means, 'God with us').

Da Josef våknet opp fra søvnen, gjorde han som Herrens engel hadde befalt ham, og han tok sin hustru til seg.

When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as his wife.

Han hadde ingen omgang med henne før hun hadde født en sønn, og han ga ham navnet Jesus.

But he did not have marital relations with her until she gave birth to her firstborn son. And he named him Jesus.
