In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

Herren var meget vred på deres fedre.

The Lord was very angry with your ancestors.

Si derfor til dem: Så sier Herren over hærskarene: 'Vend om til meg,' sier Herren over hærskarene, 'så vil jeg vende om til dere,' sier Herren over hærskarene.

Therefore, say to them: 'This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Return to me,' declares the Lord of Hosts, 'and I will return to you,' says the Lord of Hosts.

Vær ikke som deres fedre, som profetene fra tidligere tider ropte til og sa: 'Så sier Herren over hærskarene: Vend om fra deres onde veier og onde handlinger.' Men de hørte ikke og ga ikke akt på meg, sier Herren.

Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: 'This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.' But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.

Deres fedre, hvor er de nå? Og profetene, lever de for evig?

Where are your ancestors now? And do the prophets live forever?

But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your ancestors? So they repented and said, 'As the Lord of Hosts planned to do to us, according to our ways and our deeds, so He has done to us.'

On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:

Jeg så om natten, og se, en mann red på en rød hest. Han sto blant myrtene i dalen, og bak ham var det røde, rødbrune og hvite hester.

I saw during the night, and behold, a man was riding on a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in the hollow, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses.

Jeg spurte: 'Hva er dette, herre?' Engelen som talte med meg sa til meg: 'Jeg skal vise deg hva dette er.'

Then I asked, 'What are these, my lord?' The angel who was speaking with me answered, 'I will show you what they are.'

And the man standing among the myrtle trees said, 'These are the ones the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.'

And they reported to the angel of the Lord who was standing among the myrtle trees, saying, 'We have gone throughout the earth, and behold, the whole earth is at rest and quiet.'

Da svarte Herrens engel og sa: 'Herren over hærskarene, hvor lenge vil du unndra din barmhjertighet fra Jerusalem og Judas byer, som du har vært vred på i sytti år?'

Then the angel of the Lord said, 'Lord of Hosts, how long will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, which you have been angry with these seventy years?'

Herren svarte engelen som talte med meg, med gode ord, trøstefulle ord.

And the Lord answered the angel who was speaking with me with kind and comforting words.

Engelen som talte med meg sa: 'Rop ut og si: Så sier Herren over hærskarene: Jeg er meget nidkjær for Jerusalem og for Sion med stor iver.

Then the angel who was speaking with me said, 'Proclaim this: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I am very zealous for Jerusalem and Zion with a great jealousy.'

Og med stor vrede er jeg vred på de sorgløse nasjonene, for jeg var litt vred, men de økte ulykken.'

But I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was only a little angry, they added to the harm.

Derfor, så sier Herren: 'Jeg har vendt meg tilbake til Jerusalem med barmhjertighet; mitt hus skal bygges i den, sier Herren over hærskarene, og en målesnor skal strekkes ut over Jerusalem.'

'Therefore, this is what the Lord says: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion; my house will be rebuilt, declares the Lord of Hosts, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.'

Rop igjen og si: Så sier Herren over hærskarene: 'Mine byer skal igjen flyte over av velstand, og Herren skal igjen trøste Sion og igjen utvelge Jerusalem.'

Proclaim again: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: 'My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.'
