1 I det attende året av kong Jeroboam, sønn av Nebat, begynte Abijam å regjere over Juda.

Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat began Abijam to reign over Judah.

2 Han regjerte i tre år i Jerusalem. Hans mor het Maaka, datter av Abisalom.

Three years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

3 Han levde i de samme syndene som sin far før ham; hjertet hans var ikke helt overfor Herren sin Gud, slik Davids hjerte var.

And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; and his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God, as the heart of David his father.

Nevertheless for David's sake did Jehovah his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem;

because David did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

6 Det var krig mellom Rehabeam og Jeroboam hele hans liv.

Now there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

7 Resten av Abijams gjerninger og alt det han gjorde, er de ikke skrevet i krønikene for Judas konger? Og det var krig mellom Abijam og Jeroboam.

And the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

8 Så sov Abijam med sine fedre, og de gravla ham i Davids by. Hans sønn Asa ble konge etter ham.

And Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead.

9 I det tjuende året av Jeroboam, konge av Israel, begynte Asa å regjere over Juda.

And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Asa to reign over Judah.

10 Han regjerte i førtien år i Jerusalem. Hans mor het Maaka, datter av Abisalom.

And forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

11 Asa gjorde det som var rett i Herrens øyne, slik som David, hans far.

And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, as did David his father.

12 Han fjernet de mannlige tempelprostituerte fra landet og tok bort alle de avgudier som hans fedre hadde laget.

And he put away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

13 Han avsatte også sin mor Maaka fra å være dronning, fordi hun hadde laget et avskyelig bilde for Asjera. Asa hogde ned dette bildet og brente det ved Kidron-dalen.

And also Maacah his mother he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

14 Men offerhaugene ble ikke fjernet; likevel var Asas hjerte helt overfor Herren hele hans liv.

But the high places were not taken away: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect with Jehovah all his days.

15 Han bragte inn i Herrens hus de tingene som hans far hadde innviet, sammen med det han selv hadde innviet, sølv, gull og kar.

And he brought into the house of Jehovah the things that his father had dedicated, and the things that himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

16 Det var krig mellom Asa og kong Baesja av Israel hele deres dager.

And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

17 Baesja, kongen av Israel, gikk opp mot Juda og bygde Rama for å hindre noen i å gå ut eller komme inn til Asa, kongen av Juda.

And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

18 Da tok Asa alt sølvet og gullet som var igjen i skattkamrene i Herrens hus og i kongehuset, og overleverte dem til sine tjenere. Kong Asa sendte dem til Benhadad, sønn av Tabrimmon, sønn av Hesjon, kongen av Syria, som bodde i Damaskus, og sa:

Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants; and king Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

19 «Det er en allianse mellom meg og deg, mellom min far og din far. Se, jeg sender deg en gave av sølv og gull; bryt din allianse med Baesja, kongen av Israel, så han drar bort fra meg.»

`There is' a league between me and thee, between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

20 Benhadad lyttet til kong Asa og sendte hærførerne sine mot Israels byer, og han slo Ijon, Dan, Abel-Bet-Maaka, hele Kinneret og hele Naftalis land.

And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

21 Da Baesja hørte dette, sluttet han å bygge Rama og oppholdt seg i Tirsa.

And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.

22 Kong Asa innkalte hele Juda, uten unntak, og de bar bort steinene og tømmeret fra Rama, som Baesja hadde bygget med. Kong Asa brukte det til å bygge Geba i Benjamin og Mispa.

Then king Asa made a proclamation unto all Judah; none was exempted: and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built therewith Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

23 Resten av Asas gjerninger, hans makt og alt han gjorde, og byene han bygde, er de ikke skrevet i krønikene for Judas konger? Men i sin alderdom led han av en sykdom i føttene.

Now the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

24 Asa sov med sine fedre og ble gravlagt med dem i Davids by, hans far; hans sønn Josjafat ble konge etter ham.

And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.

25 Nadab, sønn av Jeroboam, begynte å regjere over Israel i det andre året av Asa, kongen av Juda, og han regjerte over Israel i to år.

And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah; and he reigned over Israel two years.

26 Han gjorde det som var ondt i Herrens øyne, og vandret i sin fars vei og i hans synd som han fikk Israel til å begå.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

27 Baesha, sønn av Ahia av Issakars hus, konspirerte mot ham; og Baesha slo ham i Gibbeton, som tilhørte filisterne, for Nadab og hele Israel la beleiring mot Gibbeton.

And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.

28 I det tredje året av Asa, kongen av Juda, drepte Baesha ham, og regjerte i hans sted.

Even in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead.

29 Så snart han ble konge, slo han hele Jeroboams hus; han lot ikke noen bli igjen som kunne puste, inntil han hadde utryddet dem, i henhold til Herrens ord, som han talte gjennom sin tjener Ahia fra Sjilo.

And it came to pass that, as soon as he was king, he smote all the house of Jeroboam: he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him; according unto the saying of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite;

30 Dette for Jeroboams synder som han syndet, og som han fikk Israel til å synde med, fordi han vakte Herrens, Israels Guds, harme.

for the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and wherewith he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation wherewith he provoked Jehovah, the God of Israel, to anger.

31 Resten av Nadabs gjerninger og alt det han gjorde, er de ikke skrevet i krønikene for Israels konger?

Now the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

32 Det var krig mellom Asa og Baesha, kongen av Israel, hele deres dager.

And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

33 I det tredje året av Asa, kongen av Juda, begynte Baesha, sønn av Ahia, å regjerte over hele Israel i Tirsa, og han regjerte i tjuefire år.

In the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, `and reigned' twenty and four years.

34 Han gjorde det som var ondt i Herrens øyne, og vandret i Jeroboams vei og i hans synd som han fikk Israel til å begå.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
