1 De levde tre år uten krig mellom Syria og Israel.

And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.

2 Det skjedde i det tredje året at Josjafat, kongen av Juda, reiste ned til kongen av Israel.

And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

3 Og kongen av Israel sa til tjenerne sine: "Vet dere at Ramot i Gilead tilhører oss, men vi er tause og tar det ikke ut av syrerkongens hånd?"

And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we are still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

4 Han sa til Josjafat: "Vil du gå med meg til krig mot Ramot i Gilead?" Josjafat svarte kongen av Israel: "Jeg er som du er, mitt folk som ditt folk, mine hester som dine hester."

And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

5 Josjafat sa videre til kongen av Israel: "Be først, jeg ber deg, om Jehovas ord."

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah.

6 Så samlet kongen av Israel profetene sine, omkring fire hundre menn, og spurte dem: "Skal jeg gå til krig mot Ramot i Gilead, eller skal jeg la være?" De sa: "Gå opp, for Herren vil gi det i kongens hånd."

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.

7 Men Josjafat spurte: "Finnes det ikke en annen profet for Jehova her, så vi kan spørre ham?"

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him?

8 Kongen av Israel svarte Josjafat: "Det er enda én mann vi kan spørre Jehova gjennom, Mika, Imla-s sønn. Men jeg hater ham, for han profeterer aldri noe godt om meg, bare ondt." Josjafat sa: "La ikke kongen si sånt."

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

9 Da kalte kongen av Israel på en tjener og sa: "Skynd deg å hente Mika, Imla-s sønn."

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah.

10 Kongen av Israel og Josjafat, kongen av Juda, satt nå på hver sin trone, kledd i sine kapper, på en åpen plass ved inngangen til porten i Samaria, og alle profetene profeterte foran dem.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

11 Sedekia, Kenaanas sønn, laget horn av jern og sa: "Så sier Jehova: Med disse skal du støte syrerne til de blir ødelagt."

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed.

12 Alle profetene profeterte det samme og sa: "Gå opp til Ramot i Gilead og vinn, for Jehova vil gi det i kongens hånd."

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

13 Budbringeren som hadde hentet Mika, sa til ham: "Se, alle profetene taler godt til kongen med én røst. La dine ord også være som deres, og tal godt."

And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets `declare' good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak thou good.

14 Men Mika svarte: "Så sant Jehova lever, det som Jehova sier, det vil jeg tale."

And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what Jehovah saith unto me, that will I speak.

15 Da han kom til kongen, sa kongen til ham: "Mika, skal vi gå til Ramot i Gilead til krig, eller skal vi la være?" Han svarte: "Gå opp og vinn, og Jehova vil gi det i kongens hånd."

And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go up and prosper; and Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

16 Kongen sa til ham: "Hvor mange ganger må jeg sverge deg at du bare skal tale sannheten til meg i Jehovas navn?"

And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?

17 Da sa han: "Jeg så hele Israel spredt over fjellene, som sauer uten gjeter, og Jehova sa: Disse har ingen herre; la dem vende tilbake hver til sitt hus i fred."

And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and Jehovah said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace.

18 Kongen av Israel sa til Josjafat: "Sa jeg ikke til deg at han aldri ville profetere noe godt om meg, bare ondt?"

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

19 Mika sa: "Hør derfor Jehovas ord: Jeg så Jehova sitte på sin trone, og hele himmelens hær sto ved hans høyre og venstre side.

And `Micaiah' said, Therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

20 Jehova sa: "Hvem vil forføre Akab, så han kan dra opp og falle ved Ramot i Gilead?" Den ene sa ett, den andre sa noe annet.

And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner; and another said on that manner.

21 Så kom en ånd fram, sto foran Jehova og sa: "Jeg vil forføre ham."

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Jehovah, and said, I will entice him.

22 Jehova spurte ham: "Hvordan?" Han svarte: "Jeg vil gå ut og bli en løgnånd i munnen på alle hans profeter." Han sa: "Du skal forføre, og du skal også få det til. Gå ut og gjør slik."

And Jehovah said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so.

23 Og nå, se, Jehova har lagt en løgnånd i munnen på alle disse dine profeter, og Jehova har talt ondt om deg."

Now therefore, behold, Jehovah hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets; and Jehovah hath spoken evil concerning thee.

24 Da kom Sedekia, Kenaanas sønn, nær, slo Mika på kinnet og sa: "Hvilken vei gikk Jehovas ånd bort fra meg for å tale til deg?"

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak unto thee?

25 Mika svarte: "Se, du skal få se den dagen da du går inn i et indre rom for å gjemme deg."

And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

26 Kongen av Israel sa: "Ta Mika og før ham tilbake til Amon, byens guvernør, og til Joasj, kongens sønn.

And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;

27 Og si: "Så sier kongen: Legg denne mannen i fengselet og gi ham litt brød og vann til jeg kommer tilbake i fred."

and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

28 Mika sa: "Hvis du kommer tilbake i fred, har ikke Jehova talt gjennom meg." Og han sa: "Hør, alle folk!"

And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, Jehovah hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you.

29 Så dro kongen av Israel og Josjafat, kongen av Juda, opp til Ramot i Gilead.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

30 Kongen av Israel sa til Josjafat: "Jeg vil kle meg ut og gå inn i slaget, men du, ta på deg ditt kongelige klær." Kongen av Israel kledde seg ut og gikk inn i slaget.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

31 Kongen av Syria hadde beordret de trettito vognførerne sine: "Kjemp verken mot liten eller stor, men bare mot kongen av Israel."

Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty and two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

32 Da vognførerne så Josjafat, sa de: "Sikkert er det kongen av Israel," og de vendte seg mot ham for å kjempe. Men Josjafat ropte ut.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel; and they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

33 Da vognførerne skjønte at det ikke var kongen av Israel, vendte de seg bort fra å forfølge ham.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

34 En mann spente buen uten mål og traff kongen av Israel mellom skjellene av rustningen. Han sa til sin vognfører: "Vend om og før meg ut av hæren, for jeg er hardt såret."

And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the armor: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.

35 Men kampen ble mer og mer intens den dagen; kongen ble holdt oppe i vognen mot syrerne, og om kvelden døde han. Blodet rant ut av såret i bunnen av vognen.

And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even; and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot.

36 Og da solen gikk ned, lød det et rop gjennom hele hæren: "Hver mann til sin by og hver mann til sitt land!"

And there went a cry throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his country.

37 Så døde kongen, og de brakte ham til Samaria, og de begravde kongen i Samaria.

So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

38 De vasket vognen ved dammen i Samaria, og hundene slikket opp blodet hans. (Prostituerte badet der), i samsvar med ordet Jehova hadde talt.

And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots washed themselves `there'); according unto the word of Jehovah which he spake.

39 Resten av Akabs gjerninger, alt han gjorde, elfenbenshuset han bygde, og alle byene han bygde, står de ikke skrevet i krønikene for Israels konger?

Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

40 Akab la seg til hvile hos sine fedre, og Akasja, hans sønn, ble konge etter ham.

So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

41 Josjafat, sønn av Asa, begynte å regjere over Juda i Akabs fjerde år som konge over Israel.

And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

42 Josjafat var trettifem år gammel da han begynte å regjere, og han regjerte tjuefem år i Jerusalem. Hans mor het Asuba, Silhis datter.

Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.

50 Josjafat la seg til hvile hos sine fedre og ble begravet hos dem i Davids by, hans far. Hans sønn Joram ble konge etter ham.

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel.

And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger Jehovah, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
