1 Det skjedde i det fire hundre og åttiende året etter at Israels barn hadde kommet ut av Egypt, i det fjerde året av Salomos regjering over Israel, i måneden Ziv, som er den andre måneden, at han begynte å bygge Herrens hus.

And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of Jehovah.

2 Det huset kong Salomo bygde for Herren, hadde en lengde på seksti alen, en bredde på tjue alen og en høyde på tretti alen.

And the house which king Solomon built for Jehovah, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty `cubits', and the height thereof thirty cubits.

3 Forhallen foran tempelet til huset var tjue alen lang, ifølge bredden av huset; og ti alen bred foran huset.

And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; `and' ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.

4 For huset laget han vinduer med fast gitterverk.

And for the house he made windows of fixed lattice-work.

5 Mot husets vegg bygde han etasjer rundt omkring, mot veggene av både tempelet og orakelet; og han laget siderom rundt omkring.

And against the wall of the house he built stories round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle; and he made side-chambers round about.

6 Den nederste etasjen var fem alen bred, den midterste seks alen bred, og den tredje syv alen bred; for utsiden laget han forskyvninger på muren rundt huset, slik at bjelkene ikke skulle ha feste i husets vegger.

The nethermost story was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad; for on the outside he made offsets `in the wall' of the house round about, that `the beams' should not have hold in the walls of the house.

7 Huset, mens det ble bygget, ble bygd av stein som var ferdig forberedt i steinbruddet; det ble verken hørt hammer eller øks eller noe jernverktøy i huset mens det ble bygd.

And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready at the quarry; and there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

8 Døren til den midterste siderommet var på høyre side av huset: og man gikk opp med vindeltrapp til den midterste etasjen, og fra den midterste til den tredje.

The door for the middle side-chambers was in the right side of the house: and they went up by winding stairs into the middle `story', and out of the middle into the third.

9 Så bygde han huset og fullførte det; og dekket huset med bjelker og planker av sedertre.

So he built the house, and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar.

10 Han bygde etasjene mot hele huset, hver fem alen høye; og de hvilte på huset med bjelker av sedertre.

And he built the stories against all the house, each five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

11 Herrens ord kom til Salomo og sa:

And the word of Jehovah came to Solomon, saying,

12 Om dette huset som du bygger, hvis du vil vandre i mine lover, følge mine forskrifter og holde alle mine bud for å vandre i dem, da vil jeg stadfeste mitt ord med deg, som jeg talte til David din far.

Concerning this house which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute mine ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I establish my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father.

13 Og jeg vil bo blant barna av Israel, og jeg vil ikke forlate mitt folk Israel.

And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

14 Salomo bygde huset og fullførte det.

So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

15 Han bygde veggene inne i huset med planker av sedertre: fra husets gulv til veggene i taket dekket han dem innvendig med tre; og han dekket husets gulv med planker av sypress.

And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house unto the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with boards of fir.

16 Han bygde tjue alen på den bakre delen av huset med planker av sedertre fra gulvet til veggene i taket; han bygde dem for det indre, for orakelet, det aller helligste.

And he built twenty cubits on the hinder part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor unto the walls `of the ceiling': he built `them' for it within, for an oracle, even for the most holy place.

17 Og huset, det vil si tempelet foran orakelet, var førti alen langt.

And the house, that is, the temple before `the oracle', was forty cubits `long'.

18 Det var sedertre på innsiden av huset, utskåret med knopper og åpne blomster: alt var sedertre; ingen stein kunne sees.

And there was cedar on the house within, carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

19 Han forberedte et orakel midt i huset, inni, for å sette der Herrens paktsark.

And he prepared an oracle in the midst of the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah.

20 Og inni orakelet var det et rom på tjue alen i lengde, tjue alen i bredde, og tjue alen i høyde; og han overtrakk det med rent gull, og han dekket alteret med sedertre.

And within the oracle was `a space of' twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof; and he overlaid it with pure gold: and he covered the altar with cedar.

21 Salomo overtrakk huset inne med rent gull, og han dro gullkjeder på tvers foran orakelet; og han overtrakk det med gull.

So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he drew chains of gold across before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

22 Og hele huset overtrakk han med gull, til hele huset var fullført; også hele alteret som tilhørte orakelet overtrakk han med gull.

And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished: also the whole altar that belonged to the oracle he overlaid with gold.

23 Og i orakelet laget han to kjeruber av oliventre, hver ti alen høye.

And in the oracle he made two cherubim of olive-wood, each ten cubits high.

24 Fem alen var den ene vingen på kjeruben, og fem alen den andre vingen på kjeruben; fra ytterkanten av den ene vingen til ytterkanten av den andre var ti alen.

And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.

25 Den andre kjeruben var ti alen: begge kjerubene var av samme størrelse og form.

And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubim were of one measure and one form.

26 Høyden på den ene kjeruben var ti alen, og det samme var det med den andre kjeruben.

The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.

27 Han satte kjerubene inne i det indre huset; og vingene på kjerubene var strakt ut, slik at vingen på den ene rørte veggen, og vingen på den andre kjeruben rørte den andre veggen; og vingene rørte hverandre midt i huset.

And he set the cherubim within the inner house; and the wings of the cherubim were stretched forth, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.

28 Han overtrakk kjerubene med gull.

And he overlaid the cherubim with gold.

29 Han skar ut alle veggene i huset rundt omkring med utskjæringer av kjeruber, palmetrær og åpne blomster, innenfor og utenfor.

And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers, within and without.

30 Husets gulv overtrakk han med gull, innenfor og utenfor.

And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.

31 For inngangen til orakelet laget han dører av oliventre: dørbjelken og dørstolpene var en femtedel av veggen.

And for the entrance of the oracle he made doors of olive-wood: the lintel `and' door-posts were a fifth part `of the wall'.

32 Så laget han to dører av oliventre, og han skar ut utskjæringer av kjeruber, palmetrær og åpne blomster, og overtrakk dem med gull; og han spredte gullet over kjerubene og palmetrærne.

So `he made' two doors of olive-wood; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold upon the cherubim, and upon the palm-trees.

33 Likeledes laget han for inngangen til tempelstolpene av oliventre, som var en fjerdedel av veggen.

So also made he for the entrance of the temple door-posts of olive-wood, out of a fourth part `of the wall';

34 Og to dører av syprestre: de to fløyene på den ene døren var folde, og de to fløyene på den andre døren var folde.

and two doors of fir-wood: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

35 Og han skar ut på dem kjeruber, palmetrær og åpne blomster; og han overtrakk dem med gull tilpasset det utskårne verket.

And he carved `thereon' cherubim and palm-trees and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold fitted upon the graven work.

36 Han bygde den indre gården med tre lag av tilhugne steiner, og et lag av sederbjelker.

And he built the inner court with three courses of hewn stone, and a course of cedar beams.

37 I det fjerde året ble grunnvollen til Herrens hus lagt, i måneden Ziv.

In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of Jehovah laid, in the month Ziv.

38 Og i det ellevte året, i måneden Bul, som er den åttende måneden, ble huset fullført i alle sine deler og etter all sin form. Så bygde han i sju år.

And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
