1 Da det var slik at Salomo hadde fullført bygningen av Herrens hus, og kongens hus, og alt det Salomo ønsket å gjøre,

And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of Jehovah, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,

2 kom Herren for andre gang til Salomo, slik han hadde vist seg for ham i Gibeon.

that Jehovah appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

3 Og Herren sa til ham: Jeg har hørt din bønn og din påkallelse, som du har gjort for meg. Jeg har helliget dette huset som du har bygd, for å sette mitt navn der for alltid. Mine øyne og mitt hjerte skal være der alltid.

And Jehovah said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

4 Og hva deg angår, hvis du vil vandre for mitt ansikt, slik din far David vandret, i hjertets oppriktighet og rettskaffenhet, og gjøre alt jeg har befalt deg, og holde mine lover og bud,

And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and mine ordinances;

5 da skal jeg opprette din konges trone over Israel for alltid, som jeg lovet din far David, og sa: Det skal aldri mangle en mann av deg på Israels trone.

then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever, according as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

6 Men hvis dere vender dere bort fra å følge meg, dere eller deres barn, og ikke holder mine bud og lover som jeg har lagt fremfor dere, men går og tjener andre guder og tilber dem,

But if ye shall turn away from following me, ye or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

7 da vil jeg hugge Israel av fra det landet jeg har gitt dem; og dette huset, som jeg har helliget for mitt navn, vil jeg kaste ut fra mitt åsyn; og Israel skal bli et ordtak og en spott blant alle folk.

then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

8 Og selv om dette huset er så høyt, skal hver den som går forbi det, bli forbauset og drevet til å plystre, og de skal si: Hvorfor har Herren gjort slik mot dette landet og mot dette huset?

And though this house is so high, yet shall every one that passeth by it be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath Jehovah done thus unto this land, and to this house?

9 Og de skal svare: Fordi de forlot Herren sin Gud, som førte deres fedre ut av landet Egypt, og holdt seg til andre guder, og tilba dem, og tjente dem. Derfor har Herren ført all denne ulykke over dem.

and they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath Jehovah brought all this evil upon them.

10 Og det skjedde etter tjue år, da Salomo hadde bygd de to husene, Herrens hus og kongens hus,

And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Jehovah and the king's house,

11 (Hiram, kongen av Tyrus, hadde forsynt Salomo med sedertre og med gull, så mye som han ønsket), at kong Salomo da ga Hiram tjue byer i Galilea.

(now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar-trees and fir-trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

12 Og Hiram kom fra Tyrus for å se på de byene som Salomo hadde gitt ham; men de behaget ham ikke.

And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.

13 Og han sa: Hva er disse byene som du har gitt meg, bror? Og han kalte dem Kabuls land til denne dag.

And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

14 Og Hiram sendte til kongen ett hundre og tjue talenter gull.

And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.

15 Dette er grunnen til arbeidsuttaket som kong Salomo reiste, for å bygge Herrens hus og hans eget hus og Millo og Jerusalems mur, samt Hasor og Megiddo og Geser.

And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

16 Farao kongen av Egypt hadde dratt opp og tatt Geser og brent det med ild, og drept kanaaneerne som bodde i byen, og gitt det som medgift til sin datter, Salomos hustru.

Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a portion unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.

17 Og Salomo bygde opp Geser og det nedre Bet-Horon,

And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether,

18 og Ba'alat og Tamar i ørkenen i landet,

and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land,

19 og alle de forrådsbyene Salomo hadde, og byene for hans vogner og for hans hestefolk, og alt det Salomo ønsket å bygge for sin lyst i Jerusalem, i Libanon, og i hele det området han rådde over.

and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

20 Men alt folket som var igjen av amorittene, hetittene, perisittene, hivittene og jebusittene, som ikke var av Israels barn,

As for all the people that were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel;

21 deres barn som var igjen etter dem i landet, dem Israel ikke maktet å utrydde fullstendig, dem gjorde Salomo til tvangsarbeidere, slik de er til denne dag.

their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them did Solomon raise a levy of bondservants unto this day.

22 Men ingen av Israels barn gjorde Salomo til tvangsarbeidere; de var hans krigere, tjenere, fyrster, høvedsmenn, fyrster for hans vogner og hestefolk.

But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondservants; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

23 Dette var de fremste forstanderene over Salomos arbeid, fem hundre og femti, som styrte folket som arbeidet med verket.

These were the chief officers that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

24 Men faraos datter flyttet opp fra Davids by til huset som Salomo hadde bygd for henne: deretter bygde han Millo.

But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which `Solomon' had built for her: then did he build Millo.

25 Og tre ganger i året ofret Salomo brennoffer og fredsoffer på alteret han hadde bygd for Herren, og brente røkelse på det, som var foran Herrens ansikt. Så fullførte han huset.

And three times a year did Solomon offer burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he built unto Jehovah, burning incense therewith, `upon the altar' that was before Jehovah. So he finished the house.

26 Og kong Salomo bygde en flåte av skip i Esjon-Geber, som er ved Elon, ved bredden av Rødehavet, i Edoms land.

And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

27 Og Hiram sendte tjenere med flåten, sjømenn som kjente havet, sammen med Salomos tjenere.

And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

28 Og de dro til Ofir, og hentet derfra gull, fire hundre og tjue talenter, og brakte det til kong Salomo.

And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
