Nå hadde Josjafat rikdom og ære i overflod; og han inngikk allianse med Akab.

Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.

Etter noen år dro han ned til Akab i Samaria. Og Akab slaktet sauer og okser i overflod for ham og for folket som var med ham, og tilskyndet ham til å dra opp med ham til Ramot-Gilead.

And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that were with him, and moved him to go up `with him' to Ramoth-gilead.

Og Akab, Israels konge, sa til Josjafat, Judas konge: Vil du gå med meg til Ramot-Gilead? Og han svarte ham: Jeg er som du, og mitt folk som ditt folk; vi vil være med deg i krigen.

And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth-gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and `we will be' with thee in the war.

Og Josjafat sa til Israels konge: Spør først, jeg ber deg, etter Herrens ord.

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah.

Da samlet Israels konge profetene, fire hundre menn, og sa til dem: Skal vi dra til Ramot-Gilead for å kjempe, eller skal jeg la være? Og de sa: Dra opp, for Gud vil overgi det i kongens hånd.

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.

Men Josjafat sa: Er det ikke her en profet for Herren, så vi kan spørre ham?

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him?

Og Israels konge sa til Josjafat: Det er ennå én mann som vi kan spørre Herren gjennom: Men jeg hater ham, for han profeterer aldri noe godt om meg, alltid ondt: Det er Mika, sønn av Jimla. Og Josjafat sa: La ikke kongen si så.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah: but I hate him; for he never prophesieth good concerning me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

Så kalte Israels konge på en offiser og sa: Hent raskt Mika, sønn av Jimla.

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.

Nå satt Israels konge og Josjafat, Judas konge, hver på sin trone, kledd i sine drakter, og de satt på en åpen plass ved inngangen til porten i Samaria; og alle profetene profeterte foran dem.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

Og Sedekia, sønn av Kena'ana, laget jernhorn og sa: Så sier Herren: Med disse skal du støte syrerne til de blir oppslukt.

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed.

Og alle profetene profeterte slik, og sa: Dra opp til Ramot-Gilead, og lykkes; for Herren vil overgi det i kongens hånd.

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king.

Og budbringeren som gikk for å hente Mika, talte til ham og sa: Se, profetene lover godt til kongen med én munn; la derfor ditt ord, ber jeg deg, bli som en av dem, og tal godt.

And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets `declare' good to the king with one mouth: let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.

Og Mika sa: Så sant Herren lever, det min Gud sier, det vil jeg tale.

And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what my God saith, that will I speak.

Og da han kom til kongen, sa kongen til ham: Mika, skal vi dra til Ramot-Gilead for å kjempe, eller skal jeg la være? Og han sa: Dra opp og lykkes; de skal bli overgitt i din hånd.

And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand.

Og kongen sa til ham: Hvor mange ganger skal jeg pålegge deg at du ikke taler til meg annet enn sannhet i Herrens navn?

And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?

Og han sa: Jeg så hele Israel spredt over fjellene, som får uten hyrde; og Herren sa: Disse har ingen herre; la hver mann vende tilbake til sitt hus i fred.

And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and Jehovah said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace.

Og Israels konge sa til Josjafat: Sa jeg deg ikke at han ikke ville profetere godt om meg, men ondt?

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

Og Mika sa: Derfor hør Herrens ord: Jeg så Herren sitte på sin trone, og hele himmelens hær stod ved hans høyre og venstre hånd.

And `Micaiah' said, Therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah: I saw Jehovah sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

Og Herren sa: Hvem vil lokke Akab, Israels konge, så han kan dra opp og falle ved Ramot-Gilead? Og én talte slik og en annen slik.

And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.

Da kom det fram en ånd og stod for Herren og sa: Jeg skal lokke ham. Og Herren sa til ham: Hvordan?

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Jehovah, and said, I will entice him. And Jehovah said unto him, Wherewith?

Og han sa: Jeg vil gå ut og være en løgnens ånd i munnen på alle hans profeter. Og han sa: Du skal lokke ham, og du skal også lykkes: Gå ut og gjør slik.

And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Se nå, Herren har lagt en løgnens ånd i munnen på alle disse profetene dine; og Herren har talt ondt om deg.

Now therefore, behold, Jehovah hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets; and Jehovah hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Da kom Sedekia, sønn av Kena'ana, nær og slo Mika på kinnet, og sa: Hvilken vei gikk Herrens ånd fra meg for å tale til deg?

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak unto thee?

Og Mika sa: Se, du skal se på den dagen når du går inn i et indre rom for å gjemme deg.

And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

Og Israels konge sa: Ta Mika og før ham tilbake til Amon, byens guvernør, og til Joasj, kongens sønn.

And the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;

og si: Så sier kongen: Sett denne mannen i fengsel, og gi ham nødbrod og vann inntil jeg kommer tilbake i fred.

and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

Og Mika sa: Hvis du i det hele tatt kommer tilbake i fred, har ikke Herren talt gjennom meg. Og han sa: Hør, alle folk.

And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, Jehovah hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you.

Så dro Israels konge og Josjafat, Judas konge, opp til Ramot-Gilead.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

Og Israels konge sa til Josjafat: Jeg vil forkledde meg og gå inn i slaget; men du, ta på deg dine klær. Så forkledde Israels konge seg, og de gikk inn i slaget.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.

Nå hadde Syrias konge befalt lederne av sine vogner og sagt: Kjemp ikke mot liten eller stor, bare mot Israels konge.

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

Da lederne av vognene så Josjafat, sa de: Dette er Israels konge. Derfor snudde de seg for å kjempe mot ham; men Josjafat ropte, og Herren hjalp ham; og Gud førte dem fra ham.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they turned about to fight against him: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and Jehovah helped him; and God moved them `to depart' from him.

Da lederne av vognene så at det ikke var Israels konge, vendte de seg bort fra å forfølge ham.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

Og en mann skjøt en pil på måfå, og traff Israels konge mellom leddene av rustningen; derfor sa han til kusken: Vend om og før meg ut av hæren, for jeg er hardt såret.

And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the armor: wherefore he said to the driver of the chariot, Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.

Og kampen vokste den dagen; men Israels konge holdt seg oppreist i sin vogn mot syrerne til kvelden; og ved solnedgang døde han.

And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even; and about the time of the going down of the sun he died.
