1 På den tiden ble Hiskia dødelig syk. Da kom profeten Jesaja, Amos' sønn, til ham og sa: «Så sier Herren: Sett ditt hus i orden, for du skal dø og ikke leve.»

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Da vendte han ansiktet mot veggen og ba til Herren og sa,

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying,

3 «Husk nå, Herre, ber jeg deg, hvordan jeg har vandret for ditt ansikt i sannhet og med et helt hjerte, og har gjort det som er godt i dine øyne.» Og Hiskia gråt bittert.

Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 Før Jesaja hadde gått ut av den midtre delen av byen, kom Herrens ord til ham og sa,

And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle part of the city, that the word of Jehovah came to him, saying,

5 «Vend tilbake og si til Hiskia, folkets fyrste: Så sier Herren, din far Davids Gud: Jeg har hørt din bønn og sett dine tårer. Se, jeg vil helbrede deg. På den tredje dagen skal du gå opp til Herrens hus.

Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of Jehovah.

6 Jeg vil legge femten år til dine dager, og jeg vil befri deg og denne byen fra Assyrias konges hånd. Jeg vil beskytte denne byen for min skyld og for min tjener Davids skyld.»

And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

7 Og Jesaja sa: «Ta en kake med fikener.» Og de tok og la den på byllen, og han ble frisk.

And Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

8 Hiskia sa til Jesaja: «Hva skal være tegnet på at Herren vil helbrede meg, og at jeg skal gå opp til Herrens hus på den tredje dag?»

And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up unto the house of Jehovah the third day?

9 Jesaja svarte: «Dette skal være tegnet fra Herren for deg, at Herren vil gjøre det han har sagt: Skal skyggen gå frem ti trinn, eller gå tilbake ti trinn?»

And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?

10 Hiskia svarte: «Det er lett for skyggen å falle ti trinn. Nei, la skyggen gå tilbake ti trinn.»

And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to decline ten steps: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten steps.

11 Profeten Jesaja ropte til Herren, og han lot skyggen gå tilbake ti trinn på Akas' solur, slik den hadde gått ned.

And Isaiah the prophet cried unto Jehovah; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

12 På den tiden sendte Merodak-Baladan, Baladans sønn, kongen av Babylon, brev og en gave til Hiskia, for han hadde hørt at Hiskia hadde vært syk.

At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

13 Hiskia lyttet til dem og viste dem hele huset med sine skatter, sølvet og gullet, krydderiene og den dyre oljen, samt sitt våpenlager, alt det som var i sine skatter. Det var ingenting i hans hus eller i hele hans rike som ikke Hiskia viste dem.

And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not.

14 Da kom profeten Jesaja til kong Hiskia og spurte: «Hva sa disse mennene, og hvor kom de fra?» Hiskia svarte: «De kom fra et land langt borte, fra Babylon.»

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

15 Jesaja spurte videre: «Hva har de sett i ditt hus?» Hiskia svarte: «De har sett alt som er i mitt hus. Det er ingenting blant mine skatter som jeg ikke har vist dem.»

And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.

16 Da sa Jesaja til Hiskia: «Hør Herrens ord.

And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah.

17 Se, dager skal komme da alt det som er i ditt hus, og som dine fedre har samlet til denne dag, skal bli ført til Babylon. Ingenting skal bli tilbake, sier Herren.

Behold, the days come, that all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Jehovah.

18 Og noe av ditt kjødelige avkom, som du skal få, skal de ta bort, og de skal bli evnukker i kongen av Babylons palass.»

And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

19 Da sa Hiskia til Jesaja: «Godt er Herrens ord som du har talt.» Og han sa videre: «For det skal vel være fred og sannhet i mine dager.»

Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, Is it not so, if peace and truth shall be in my days?

20 Resten av Hiskias gjerninger, all hans kraft, og hvordan han laget dammen og vannledningen og førte vann til byen, er det ikke skrevet i Juda-kongenes krønikebok?

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

21 Hiskia sovnet med sine fedre, og hans sønn Manasse ble konge etter ham.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
