1 Profeten Elisja kalte en av profetdisiplene og sa til ham: «Bind kjortelen opp om deg, ta denne flaska med olje i hånden, og gå til Ramot i Gilead.

And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead.

2 Når du kommer dit, finn Jehu, sønn av Josjafat, sønn av Nimsi. Gå til ham, få ham til å reise seg fra sine brødre, og før ham inn i et indre rom.

And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber.

3 Så skal du ta flaska med olje, helle den over hans hode og si: 'Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet deg til konge over Israel.' Deretter skal du åpne døren og flykte uten opphold.

Then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

4 Den unge profetdisippelen dro derfor til Ramot i Gilead.

So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.

5 Da han kom fram, satt hærens kapteiner der. Han sa: «Jeg har et ærend til deg, kaptein.» Jehu svarte: «Til hvem av oss?» Han sa: «Til deg, kaptein.»

And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of us all? And he said, To thee, O captain.

6 Da reiste han seg og gikk inn i huset. Han helte oljen over hans hode og sa til ham: «Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Jeg har salvet deg til konge over Herrens folk, over Israel.

And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of Jehovah, even over Israel.

7 Du skal slå Ahabs hus, din herre, så jeg kan hevne blodet til mine profeter, mine tjenere, og blodet til alle Herrens tjenere ved hånd til Jesabel.

And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah, at the hand of Jezebel.

8 For hele Ahabs hus skal gå til grunne; fra Ahab vil jeg utrydde enhver mann, både dem som er avsondret og dem som er fri i Israel.

For the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel.

9 Jeg vil gjøre med Ahabs hus som med huset til Jeroboam, Nibats sønn, og som med huset til Baesja, Ahijas sønn.

And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

10 Hundene skal ete Jesabel på markene ved Jisre'el, og ingen skal begrave henne.» Så åpnet han døren og flyktet.

And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.

11 Da Jehu kom ut til sin herres tjenere, sa en av dem til ham: «Er alt vel? Hvorfor kom denne gale mannen til deg?» Han svarte: «Dere vet selv hva mannen sier.»

Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to thee? And he said unto them, Ye know the man and what his talk was.

12 De sa: «Nei, fortell oss det!» Han sa: «Så og så talte han til meg: 'Så sier Herren: Jeg har salvet deg til konge over Israel.'»

And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spake he to me, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I have anointed thee king over Israel.

13 Da skyndte de seg, hver tok sitt klesplagg, la det under ham på trappen og blåste i trompetene og sa: «Jehu er konge!»

Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, Jehu is king.

14 Så la Jehu, sønn av Josjafat, sønn av Nimsi, en sammensvergelse mot Joram. (Joram hadde holdt Ramot i Gilead med hele Israel på grunn av Hasael, kongen av Syria.

So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram was keeping Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;

15 Men kong Joram hadde vendt tilbake til Jisre'el for å la seg lege for de sår som syrerne hadde påført ham i kampen mot Hasael, kongen av Syria.) Jehu sa: «Hvis dette er deres mening, la ingen slippe ut av byen og gå for å fortelle det i Jisre'el.

but king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If this be your mind, then let none escape and go forth out of the city, to go to tell it in Jezreel.

16 Så satte Jehu seg i vognen og dro til Jisre'el, hvor Joram lå. Og Akasja, kongen av Juda, hadde kommet ned for å besøke Joram.

So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.

17 Vekteren stod da på tårnet i Jisre'el, og han så Jehus følge komme. Han sa: «Jeg ser en flokk.» Joram sa: «Ta en rytter og send ham for å møte dem og spørre: Er det fred?»

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?

18 Rytteren dro for å møte dem og sa: «Kongen spør: Er det fred?» Jehu svarte: «Hva har du med fred å gjøre? Følg etter meg.» Vekteren meldte: «Sendebudet nådde dem, men han kommer ikke tilbake.»

So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he cometh not back.

19 Så sendte han en annen rytter, som kom til dem og sa: «Så sier kongen: Er det fred?» Jehu svarte: «Hva har du med fred å gjøre? Følg etter meg.»

Then he sent out a second on horseback, who came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

20 Vekteren meldte: «Han kom til dem, men han kommer ikke tilbake heller. Kjøringen er som Jehus, sønn av Nimsi, for han kjører som en galning.»

And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not back: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.

21 Joram sa: «Gjør vognen klar.» De gjorde vognen klar, og Joram, Israels konge, og Akasja, Judas konge, dro ut, hver i sin vogn. De dro til Jehu og møttes ved Nabots til Jisre'els område.

And Joram said, Make ready. And they made ready his chariot. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu, and found him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.

22 Da Joram så Jehu, spurte han: «Er det fred, Jehu?» Han svarte: «Hvordan kan det være fred så lenge din mor Jesabels utroskap og trolldom er så mange?»

And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?

23 Joram vendte vognen og flyktet mens han ropte til Akasja: «Det er forræderi, Akasja!»

And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.

24 Men Jehu bøyde sin bue for fullt og skjøt Joram mellom skuldrene, så pilen gikk ut ved hjertet, og han sank sammen i vognen.

And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength, and smote Joram between his arms; and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.

25 Jehu sa til sin kaptein Bidkar: «Ta ham opp og kast ham ut på Nabots til Jisre'els jorde. Husk hvordan jeg og du red sammen etter hans far Ahab, da Herren uttalte denne dommen over ham:

Then said `Jehu' to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, Jehovah laid this burden upon him:

26 'Jeg har i går sett Nabots blod og hans sønners blod, sier Herren, og jeg vil gjengjelde deg for dette jordstykket, sier Herren.' Nå derfor, kast ham på denne jorda, som Herrens ord sa.»

Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith Jehovah. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat `of ground', according to the word of Jehovah.

27 Da Akasja, Judas konge, så dette, flyktet han mot hagestallen. Jehu forfulgte ham og sa: «Slå også ham ned i vognen.» De slo ham ved Gur-stigningen ved Ibleam, og han flyktet til Megiddo og døde der.

But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot: `and they smote him' at the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

28 Hans tjenere kjørte ham i vogn til Jerusalem og begravde ham med hans fedre i Davidbyen.

And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.

29 I det ellevte året til Joram, Ahabs sønn, ble Akasja konge over Juda.

And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.

30 Da Jehu kom til Jisre'el, fikk Jesabel høre det; hun sminket sine øyne og satte opp håret og kikket ut av vinduet.

And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her eyes, and attired her head, and looked out at the window.

31 Da Jehu kom inn gjennom porten, sa hun: «Er det fred, du Zimri, din herres morder?»

And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, thou Zimri, thy master's murderer?

32 Han løftet ansiktet mot vinduet og sa: «Hvem er med meg, hvem?» To eller tre hoffevnukker så opp mot ham.

And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.

33 Han sa: «Kast henne ned!» De kastet henne ned, og noe av blodet hennes skvettet på veggen og på hestene, og Jehu tråkket henne under fot.

And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot.

34 Han gikk inn, spiste og drakk, og sa så: «Ta dere av denne forbannede kvinnen og begrav henne, for hun er en kongedatter.»

And when he was come in, he did eat and drink; and he said, See now to this cursed woman, and bury her; for she is a king's daughter.

35 Men da de gikk for å begrave henne, fant de bare hodeskallen, føttene og hendene.

And they went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

36 De kom tilbake og fortalte det til ham. Da sa han: «Dette er Herrens ord, som han talte ved sin tjener Elia fra Tisjbe, da han sa: 'På Jisre'els område skal hundene fortære kjøttet av Jesabel;

Wherefore they came back, and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall the dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel;

37 og Jesabels kropp skal være som gjødsel på marken i Jisre'el, så ingen kan si: Dette er Jesabel.'»

and the body of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
