Da kongen bodde i sitt hus, og Herren hadde gitt ham fred fra alle hans fiender rundt omkring,

And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest from all his enemies round about,

sa kongen til profeten Natan: Se nå, jeg bor i et hus av sedertre, men Guds ark bor i et telt.

that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.

Og Natan sa til kongen: Gå og gjør alt som du har i hjertet, for Herren er med deg.

And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee.

Men samme natt kom Herrens ord til Natan og sa:

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of Jehovah came unto Nathan, saying,

Gå og si til min tjener David: Så sier Herren: Skal du bygge et hus for meg å bo i?

Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?

For jeg har ikke bodd i et hus siden den dagen jeg førte Israels barn opp fra Egypt og til denne dag, men jeg har vandret i et telt og i en bolig.

for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.

I alle de steder hvor jeg har vandret med alle Israels barn, har jeg sagt et ord til noen av Israels stammer, som jeg befalte å være hyrde for mitt folk Israel, og sagt: Hvorfor har dere ikke bygget meg et hus av sedertre?

In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?

Nå skal du derfor si til min tjener David, Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Jeg tok deg fra beitemarkene, fra å følge fårene, for at du skulle være fyrste over mitt folk, over Israel.

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel;

Og jeg har vært med deg overalt hvor du har gått, og har utryddet alle fiendene dine foran deg; og jeg vil gjøre ditt navn stort, lik navnene til de store på jorden.

and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

Og jeg vil gi et sted for mitt folk Israel, og plante dem, så de kan bo på sitt eget sted og ikke bli flyttet mer; heller ikke skal urettferdighetens barn plage dem mer, som før,

And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first,

og siden den dagen jeg satte dommere over mitt folk Israel; og jeg vil gi deg hvile fra alle dine fiender. Herren gir deg beskjed om at Herren vil bygge et hus for deg.

and `as' from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house.

Når dine dager er fullført, og du sover med dine fedre, skal jeg oppreise din ætt etter deg, den som skal utgå fra deg, og jeg vil etablere hans kongedømme.

When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

Han skal bygge et hus for mitt navn, og jeg vil etablere tronen for hans kongedømme for evig.

He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

Jeg vil være hans far, og han skal være min sønn: Hvis han gjør urett, vil jeg refse ham med menneskers ris og menneskers slag;

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

men min miskunn skal ikke vike fra ham, som jeg tok den fra Saul, som jeg avsatte foran deg.

but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.

Og ditt hus og ditt kongedømme skal være trygge for evig for deg: din trone skal være etablert for evig.

And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

I henhold til alle disse ordene, og i henhold til hele denne visjonen, talte Natan til David.

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Da gikk kong David inn, og satte seg foran Herren; og han sa: Hvem er jeg, O Herre Gud, og hva er mitt hus, at du har ført meg så langt?

Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

Og dette var enda en liten ting i dine øyne, O Herre Gud; men du har også talt om din tjeners hus for lang tid fremover; dette, også, etter menneskers skikk, O Herre Gud!

And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this `too' after the manner of men, O Lord Jehovah!

Og hva mer kan David si til deg? For du kjenner din tjener, O Herre Gud.

And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord Jehovah.

For din ords skyld, og i henhold til ditt eget hjerte, har du utført all denne storheten, for å la din tjener vite det.

For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it.

Derfor er du stor, O Herren Gud: for det er ingen som deg, heller ikke er det noen Gud foruten deg, i følge alt vi har hørt med våre ører.

Wherefore thou art great, O Jehovah God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Og hvilket folkeslag på jorden er som ditt folk, som Israel, som Gud gikk for å løse seg selv til et folk, for å gjøre ham et navn, og for å utføre store og forferdelige ting for landet ditt, foran folket ditt, som du har kjøpt deg fra Egypt, fra folkene og deres guder?

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, whom thou redeemest to thee out of Egypt, `from' the nations and their gods?

Og du har opprettet ditt folk Israel til å være et folk for deg for evig; og du, Herre, ble deres Gud.

And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.

Og nå, O Herre Gud, det ordet som du har talt om din tjener og om hans hus, bekreft det for evig, og gjør som du har talt.

And now, O Jehovah God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

Og la ditt navn bli opphøyd for evig, mens det sies: Herren, hærskarenes Gud, er Gud over Israel; og din tjener Davids hus skal bli etablert foran deg.

And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee.

For du, O hærskarenes Herre, Israels Gud, har åpenbart for din tjener og sagt: Jeg vil bygge deg et hus: derfor har din tjener funnet i sitt hjerte å be denne bønnen til deg.

For thou, O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

Og nå, O Herre Gud, du er Gud, og dine ord er sannhet, og du har lovet denne gode saken til din tjener:

And now, O Lord Jehovah, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

så la det nå behage deg å velsigne din tjeneres hus, at det kan fortsette for evig foran deg; for du, O Herre Gud, har talt det: og med din velsignelse la din tjeneres hus bli velsignet for evig.

now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord Jehovah, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.
