1 I menigheten i Antiokia var det noen profeter og lærere: Barnabas, og Simeon som ble kalt Niger, og Lucius fra Kyrene, og Manaen fosterbror til Herodes landsfyrsten, og Saulus.

Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was `there', prophets and teachers, Barnabas, and Symeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 Mens de tjente Herren og fastet, sa Den Hellige Ånd: Skill ut for meg Barnabas og Saulus til det arbeidet som jeg har kalt dem til.

And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 Etter at de hadde fastet og bedt, la de hendene på dem og sendte dem av sted.

Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

4 Sendt ut av Den Hellige Ånd dro de ned til Selevkia, og derfra seilte de til Kypros.

So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

5 Da de kom til Salamis, forkynte de Guds ord i jødenes synagoger, og de hadde også Johannes med som hjelper.

And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.

6 Da de hadde gått gjennom hele øya til Pafos, møtte de en trollmann, en falsk profet, en jøde ved navn Barjesus.

And when they had gone through the whole island unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus;

7 Han var hos prokonsul Sergius Paulus, en forstandig mann. Han kalte til seg Barnabas og Saulus og ønsket å høre Guds ord.

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. The same called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

8 Men trollmannen Elymas – for det er hva navnet oversettes til – motsto dem og forsøkte å vende prokonsulen bort fra troen.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.

9 Men Saulus, som også heter Paulus, fylt av Den Hellige Ånd, så fast på ham

But Saul, who is also `called' Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him,

10 og sa: Du sønn av djevelen, full av all svik og ondskap, fiende av all rettferdighet, skal du ikke slutte å forvrenge Herrens rette veier?

and said, O full of all guile and all villany, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

11 Nå er Herrens hånd over deg, du skal bli blind og ikke se solen for en tid. Straks falt det en tåke og et mørke over ham, og han gikk rundt og søkte noen som kunne lede ham ved hånden.

And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

12 Da prokonsulen så hva som skjedde, kom han til tro, forundret over Herrens lære.

Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

13 Paulus og hans følgesvenner seilte fra Pafos og kom til Perge i Pamfylia. Johannes skilte lag med dem og vendte tilbake til Jerusalem.

Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

14 Men de fortsatte fra Perge og kom til Antiokia i Pisidia. På sabbatsdagen gikk de inn i synagogen og satte seg.

But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

15 Etter lesningen av loven og profetene, sendte forstanderne av synagogen bud til dem og sa: Brødre, hvis dere har et oppmuntrende ord til folket, si det.

And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

16 Da reiste Paulus seg, vinket med hånden og sa: Israels menn og dere som frykter Gud, lytt:

And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken:

17 Israels folkets Gud valgte våre fedre og opphøyet folket under oppholdet i Egypt, og med kraftig hånd førte han dem ut derfra.

The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojourned in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm led he them forth out of it.

18 I omtrent førti år tok han vare på dem i ørkenen.

And for about the time of forty years as a nursing-father bare he them in the wilderness.

19 Da han hadde utslettet sju nasjoner i Kanaan, ga han dem deres land som arv.

And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave `them' their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years:

20 Alt dette varte i om lag fire hundre og femti år, og etter disse ga han dem dommere inntil profeten Samuel.

and after these things he gave `them' judges until Samuel the prophet.

21 Så ba de om en konge, og Gud ga dem Saul, sønn av Kisj, en mann av Benjamins stamme, for en periode av førti år.

And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years.

22 Da han hadde avsatt ham, reiste han opp David til å være deres konge, om ham har han vitnet: Jeg har funnet David, sønn av Isai, en mann etter mitt hjerte, som skal gjøre min vilje.

And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will.

23 Av hans ætt har Gud etter sitt løfte brakt Israel en frelser, Jesus,

Of this man's seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus;

24 etter at Johannes hadde forkynt omvendelsens dåp for hele Israels folk før hans komme.

when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 Da Johannes fullførte sitt verk, sa han: Hva tror dere at jeg er? Jeg er ikke han, men se, det kommer en etter meg hvis sandal jeg ikke er verdig å knyte opp.

And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not `he'. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

26 Brødre, barn av Abrahams familie, og dere blant folkene som frykter Gud, til oss er dette frelsens ord sendt.

Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth.

27 For de som bor i Jerusalem og deres ledere, fordi de ikke kjente ham eller profetenes budskap som leses hver sabbat, oppfylte disse ved å dømme ham.

For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled `them' by condemning `him'.

28 Selv om de ikke fant noen grunn til dødsdom, ba de Pilatus om å få ham henrettet.

And though they found no cause of death `in him', yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.

And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

30 Men Gud reiste ham opp fra de døde.

But God raised him from the dead:

31 Han ble sett i mange dager av dem som kom opp med ham fra Galilea til Jerusalem, nå hans vitner for folket.

and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people.

32 Vi forkynner de gode nyhetene om løftet gitt til fedrene,

And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers,

33 at Gud har oppfylt dette for våre barn ved å reise Jesus opp; som det også er skrevet i den andre salmen: Du er min Sønn, i dag har jeg født deg.

that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

34 Når det gjelder at han reiste ham opp fra de døde, for å aldri mer vende tilbake til fordervelse, har han sagt: Jeg vil gi dere Davids hellige og faste løfter.

And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure `blessings' of David.

35 Derfor sier han også i en annen salme: Du skal ikke la din Hellige se fordervelse.

Because he saith also in another `psalm', Thou wilt not give Thy Holy One to see corruption.

36 For David, etter å ha tjent Guds vilje i sin egen tid, sovnet inn, ble forent med sine fedre og så fordervelse.

For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

37 Men han som Gud reiste opp, så ikke fordervelse.

but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.

38 Vær derfor klar over, brødre, at ved denne mann blir frifinnelse for syndene forkynt for dere.

Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins:

39 Og ved ham blir enhver som tror rettferdiggjort fra alt som dere ikke kunne bli rettferdiggjort fra ved Moseloven.

and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Vokt dere derfor, slik at det ikke kommer over dere, det som er sagt hos profetene:

Beware therefore, lest that come upon `you' which is spoken in the prophets:

41 Se, dere foraktere, undre dere og bli borte; for jeg utfører en gjerning i deres dager, en gjerning som dere aldri vil tro, selv om noen forteller dere det.

Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

42 Da de gikk ut, ba de om å få høre disse ordene også neste sabbat.

And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

43 Da forsamlingen var oppløst, fulgte mange av jødene og gudfryktige proselytter etter Paulus og Barnabas, som talte til dem og oppfordret dem til å fortsette i Guds nåde.

Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

44 Og neste sabbat samlet nesten hele byen seg for å høre Guds ord.

And the next sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

45 Da jødene så folkemengdene, ble de fylt av misunnelse og motsa det som ble sagt av Paulus, og spottet.

But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

46 Paulus og Barnabas talte frimodig og sa: Det var nødvendig at Guds ord først ble talt til dere. Men siden dere avviser det og dømmer dere selv uverdige til det evige liv, vender vi oss nå til hedningene.

And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For slik har Herren befalt oss: Jeg har satt deg til et lys for hedningene, for at du skal bli til frelse til jordens ytterste ende.

For so hath the Lord commanded us, `saying', I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

48 Da hedningene hørte dette, ble de glade og æret Guds ord, og så mange som var bestemt til evig liv, kom til tro.

And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

49 Herrens ord spredte seg over hele området.

And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region.

50 Men jødene oppviglet de gudfryktige kvinne av høy rang og byens ledende menn, og vakte en forfølgelse mot Paulus og Barnabas, og drev dem bort fra sine landområder.

But the Jews urged on the devout women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

51 Men de ristet støvet av sine føtter mot dem, og dro til Ikonium.

But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

52 Og disiplene ble fylt med glede og Den Hellige Ånd.

And the disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.
