1 Hør dette ordet som Herren har talt mot dere, Israels barn, mot hele familien som jeg førte opp fra landet Egypt, og sa,

Hear this word that Jehovah hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 Bare dere har jeg kjent av alle jordens familier; derfor vil jeg straffe dere for alle deres misgjerninger.

You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will visit upon you all your iniquities.

3 Kan to vandre sammen uten at de er enige?

Shall two walk together, except they have agreed?

4 Brøler en løve i skogen når den ikke har bytte? Skriker en ung løve fra hulen sin hvis den ikke har fanget noe?

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

5 Kan en fugl falle i en felle på bakken hvis det ikke er lagt noen snare for den? Springer en felle opp fra bakken uten å ha fanget noe?

Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is `set' for him? shall a snare spring up from the ground, and have taken nothing at all?

6 Kan det blåses i horn i en by uten at folket blir redde? Skal det inntreffe en ulykke i en by som Herren ikke har forårsaket?

Shall the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? shall evil befall a city, and Jehovah hath not done it?

7 For Herren Gud gjør ikke noe uten å åpenbare sitt råd for sine tjenere profetene.

Surely the Lord Jehovah will do nothing, except he reveal his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 Løven har brølt, hvem kan da unngå å frykte? Herren Gud har talt, hvem kan da slutte å profetere?

The lion hath roared; who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken; who can but prophesy?

9 Forkynn i palassene i Asjdod og i palassene i Egypts land, og si: Samle dere på Samarias fjell og se hvilke store tumulter som finnes der, og hvilke undertrykkelser som er i dens midte.

Publish ye in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold what great tumults are therein, and what oppressions in the midst thereof.

10 For de vet ikke å gjøre rett, sier Herren, de som samler opp vold og plyndring i sine palasser.

For they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

11 Derfor sier Herren Gud: En fiende skal omringe landet, og han skal rive din styrke ned, og dine palasser skal bli plyndret.

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An adversary `there shall be', even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be plundered.

12 Så sier Herren: Som hyrden bare berger to ben eller en bit av et øre fra løvens munn, slik skal Israels barn berges, de som sitter i Samaria i hjørnet av en sofa og på silkekledde senger.

Thus saith Jehovah: As the shepherd rescueth out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the children of Israel be rescued that sit in Samaria in the corner of a couch, and on the silken cushions of a bed.

13 Hør og vitne mot Jakobs hus, sier Herren Gud, hærskarenes Gud.

Hear ye, and testify against the house of Jacob, saith the Lord Jehovah, the God of hosts.

14 For på den dagen jeg besøker Israels overtredelser på ham, vil jeg også besøke Betel-altrene; alterhornene skal kappes av og falle til jorden.

For in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also visit the altars of Beth-el; and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15 Og jeg vil slå vinterhuset med sommerhuset; elfenbenshusene skal gå til grunne, og de store husene skal få en ende, sier Herren.

And I will smite the winter-house with the summer-house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith Jehovah.
