Du skal elske Herren din Gud og holde hans krav, hans forskrifter, hans lover og hans bud alltid.

Therefore thou shalt love Jehovah thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, alway.

Og i dag skal dere vite: Jeg taler ikke med deres barn som ikke har kjent eller sett Herrens tukt, deres Guds storhet, hans mektige hånd og hans utstrakte arm,

And know ye this day: for `I speak' not with your children that have not known, and that have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

og hans tegn og gjerninger, som han gjorde midt i Egypt mot farao, kongen i Egypt, og mot hele landet hans.

and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;

Og det han gjorde mot Egypts hær, mot deres hester og vogner, hvordan han lot vannet i Rødehavet renne over dem mens de forfulgte dere, og hvordan Herren ødela dem den dag i dag.

and what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Jehovah hath destroyed them unto this day;

Og hva han gjorde mot dere i ørkenen, inntil dere kom til dette stedet.

and what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came unto this place;

Og hva han gjorde mot Datan og Abiram, sønner av Eliab, Rubens sønn; hvordan jorden åpnet seg og slukte dem med sine husfolk, sine telt og alle levende vesener som fulgte dem, midt blant hele Israel.

and what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel:

Men deres øyne har sett alle de store gjerningene Herren gjorde.

but your eyes have seen all the great work of Jehovah which he did.

Derfor skal dere holde alle budene som jeg gir dere i dag, for at dere skal bli sterke og gå inn og ta landet i eie som dere drar over for å ta i eie.

Therefore shall ye keep all the commandment which I command thee this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go over to possess it;

Og for at dere skal leve lenge i landet som Herren har sverget å gi fedrene deres og deres etterkommere, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which Jehovah sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

For landet dere går inn for å ta i eie er ikke som Egyptens land, som dere dro ut fra, der dere sådde deres sæd og vannet det med foten som en urtehage.

For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs;

Men landet som dere skal gå inn for å ta i eie, er et land med høyder og daler, og det drikker vann av himmelens regn,

but the land, whither ye go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, `and' drinketh water of the rain of heaven,

et land som Herren din Gud har omsorg for. Herrens øyne hviler alltid på det, fra årets begynnelse til årets slutt.

a land which Jehovah thy God careth for: the eyes of Jehovah thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

Og det skal skje, dersom dere nøye lytter til mine bud som jeg gir dere i dag, for å elske Herren deres Gud og tjene ham av hele deres hjerte og sjel,

And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love Jehovah your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

skal jeg gi landet deres regn i rette tid, både høstregn og vårregn, slik at dere kan samle inn kornet deres, vinen deres og oljen deres.

that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy grain, and thy new wine, and thine oil.

Og jeg vil gi gress på markene deres for buskapen deres, og dere skal spise og bli mette.

And I will give grass in thy fields for thy cattle, and thou shalt eat and be full.

Ta dere i akt, så ikke hjertet deres blir bedratt og dere vender dere bort og tjener andre guder og tilber dem.

Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

Da vil Herrens vrede blusse opp mot dere, og han vil lukke himmelen, så det ikke blir noe regn, og jorden ikke gir sin grøde, og dere vil raskt gå til grunne i det gode landet som Herren gir dere.

and the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he shut up the heavens, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and ye perish quickly from off the good land which Jehovah giveth you.

Legg derfor disse mine ord på hjertet og i sjelen; bind dem som et tegn på hånden deres, og de skal være som panneremmer mellom øynene deres.

Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and ye shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.

Og dere skal lære dem til barna deres, ved å tale om dem når dere sitter i huset, når dere går på veien, når dere legger dere og når dere står opp.

And ye shall teach them your children, talking of them, when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Og du skal skrive dem på dørstolpene i huset ditt og på portene dine,

And thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates;

slik at dagene deres og dagenes barna deres kan bli mange i det landet som Herren svor å gi fedrene deres, like så mange som himmelens dager over jorden.

that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

For dersom dere omhyggelig holder alle de budene som jeg gir dere, for å gjøre dem, å elske Herren deres Gud, vandre på alle hans veier og holde fast ved ham,

For if ye shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;

da vil Herren drive bort alle disse nasjonene for dere, og dere skal ta land i eie som er større og mektigere enn dere selv.

then will Jehovah drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

Hvert sted deres fot trår, skal bli deres: Fra ørkenen, til Libanon, fra elven, Eufratelven, til det ytterste havet skal være deres grense.

Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the hinder sea shall be your border.

Ingen skal kunne stå seg mot dere: Herren deres Gud skal legge frykt og redsel for dere over hele det landet dere trår på, slik som han har lovet dere.

There shall no man be able to stand before you: Jehovah your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath spoken unto you.

Se, jeg setter i dag framfor dere en velsignelse og en forbannelse:

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:

velsignelsen, dersom dere hører på Herrens, deres Guds, bud, som jeg gir dere i dag;

the blessing, if ye shall hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you this day;

og forbannelsen, dersom dere ikke hører på Herrens, deres Guds, bud, men vender dere bort fra den veien jeg befaler dere i dag, for å følge andre guder som dere ikke har kjent.

and the curse, if ye shall not hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

Og når Herren din Gud fører deg inn i det landet du går for å ta i eie, skal du gi velsignelsen på Garisimfjellet og forbannelsen på Ebalfjellet.

And it shall come to pass, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.

Er de ikke bortenfor Jordan, bak veien som går ned til solnedgangen, i Kanaans land, der kanaaneerne bor i Arabah, rett overfor Gilgal, ved eikene ved Moreh?

Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

For dere skal gå over Jordan for å gå inn og ta landet som Herren deres Gud gir dere i eie, og dere skal ta det i eie og bo der.

For ye are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Jehovah your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein.

Og dere skal holde alle forskriftene og lovene som jeg setter framfor dere i dag.

And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.
