Dere er barna til Herren deres Gud: dere skal ikke skjære dere selv, eller lage skallet flekk mellom øynene for de døde.

Ye are the children of Jehovah your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

For du er et hellig folk for Herren din Gud, og Herren har valgt deg til å være hans eiendomsfolk, over alle folkene på jordens overflate.

For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God, and Jehovah hath chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

Du skal ikke spise noe avskyelig.

Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.

Dette er dyrene dere kan spise: oksen, sauen og geiten,

These are the beasts which ye may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

hjorten, gasellen, rådyrbukken, villgeiten, pygarguen, antilopen og gemsen.

the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the antelope, and the chamois.

Og hvert dyr som har klover og kløvene delt i to og tygger drøv, blant dyrene, kan dere spise.

And every beast that parteth the hoof, and hath the hoof cloven in two, `and' cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that may ye eat.

Likevel skal dere ikke spise av de som tygger drøv eller har kløvene delt: kamelen, haren og klippegrevlingen; fordi de tygger drøv men har ikke delt klover, er de urene for dere.

Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the coney; because they chew the cud but part not the hoof, they are unclean unto you.

Og svinet, fordi det har delt klover men tygger ikke drøv, er det urent for dere: av deres kjøtt skal dere ikke spise, og deres kadavre skal dere ikke berøre.

And the swine, because he parteth the hoof but cheweth not the cud, he is unclean unto you: of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcasses ye shall not touch.

Dette kan dere spise av alt som er i vannet: alt som har finner og skjell kan dere spise;

These ye may eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales may ye eat;

men alt som ikke har finner og skjell skal dere ikke spise; det er urent for dere.

and whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye shall not eat; it is unclean unto you.

Av alle rene fugler kan dere spise.

Of all clean birds ye may eat.

Men disse er de som dere ikke skal spise: ørnen, gribben og fiskeørnen,

But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the gier-eagle, and the ospray,

og værfuglen, falken og glenten etter deres slag,

and the glede, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind,

og hver ravn etter dens slag,

and every raven after its kind,

og strutsen, netteravnen, måken og hauken etter dens slag,

and the ostrich, and the night-hawk, and the sea-mew, and the hawk after its kind,

lilleuglen, storuglen og hornuglen,

the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl,

pelikanen, gribben og skarven,

and the pelican, and the vulture, and the cormorant,

storken, hegren etter dens slag, hærfuglen og flaggermusen.

and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

Og alle krypende vingede skapninger er urene for dere: de skal ikke spises.

And all winged creeping things are unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.

Av alle rene fugler kan dere spise.

Of all clean birds ye may eat.

Dere skal ikke spise noe som dør av seg selv: du kan gi det til den fremmede som er innenfor dine porter, så han kan spise det; eller du kan selge det til en utlending: for du er et hellig folk for Herren din Gud. Du skal ikke koke et kje i morens melk.

Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou mayest give it unto the sojourner that is within thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto a foreigner: for thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God. Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother's milk.

Du skal gi tiende av hele avlingen av ditt frø, som kommer fra marken år for år.

Thou shalt surely tithe all the increase of thy seed, that which cometh forth from the field year by year.

Og du skal spise foran Herren din Gud, på det stedet som han velger å la sitt navn bo, tienden av ditt korn, din nyvin og din olje, og førstefødslene av din flokk og buskap, for at du skal lære å frykte Herren din Gud alltid.

And thou shalt eat before Jehovah thy God, in the place which he shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of thy grain, of thy new wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herd and of thy flock; that thou mayest learn to fear Jehovah thy God always.

Hvis veien er for lang for deg, så du ikke kan bære det, fordi stedet er for langt fra deg, som Herren din Gud skal velge for å sette sitt navn der, når Herren din Gud velsigner deg;

And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it, because the place is too far from thee, which Jehovah thy God shall choose, to set his name there, when Jehovah thy God shall bless thee;

da skal du gjøre det om til penger, binde pengene i hånden din, og gå til det stedet som Herren din Gud skal velge:

then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thy hand, and shalt go unto the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose:

og du skal bruke pengene på hva du ønsker, enten det er storfe, sauer, vin, sterk drikke eller hva ditt hjerte begjærer; og du skal spise der foran Herren din Gud, og du skal fryde deg, du og din husstand.

and thou shalt bestow the money for whatsoever thy soul desireth, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul asketh of thee; and thou shalt eat there before Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou and thy household.

Og levitten som er innenfor dine porter, skal du ikke glemme; for han har ingen del eller arv med deg.

And the Levite that is within thy gates, thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee.

Ved slutten av hvert tredje år skal du hente all tienden av din økning det samme året, og legge det opp innenfor dine porter:

At the end of every three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase in the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

og levitten, fordi han ikke har noen del eller arv med deg, og den fremmede, den farløse og enken, som er innenfor dine porter, skal komme og spise og bli mette; for at Herren din Gud kan velsigne deg i alt arbeidet med dine hender som du gjør.

and the Levite, because he hath no portion nor inheritance with thee, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Jehovah thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou doest.
