Og Moses og Israels eldste befalte folket og sa: Hold alle budene som jeg pålegger dere i dag.

And Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandment which I command you this day.

Den dagen dere går over Jordan til det landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, skal du sette opp store steiner og dekke dem med kalk.

And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over the Jordan unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:

Og du skal skrive på dem alle ordene i denne loven når du har gått over, for at du kan komme inn i det landet som Herren din Gud gir deg, et land som flyter av melk og honning, slik Herren, dine fedres Gud, har lovet deg.

and thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over; that thou mayest go in unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath promised thee.

Og det skal være slik at når dere har gått over Jordan, skal dere sette opp disse steinene, som jeg pålegger dere i dag, på fjellet Ebal, og du skal dekke dem med kalk.

And it shall be, when ye are passed over the Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster.

Og der skal du bygge et alter for Herren din Gud, et alter av steiner. Du skal ikke bruke jernverktøy på dem.

And there shalt thou build an altar unto Jehovah thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt lift up no iron `tool' upon them.

Du skal bygge Herrens, din Guds alter av uformede steiner, og du skal ofre brennoffer på det til Herren din Gud.

Thou shalt build the altar of Jehovah thy God of unhewn stones; and thou shalt offer burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah thy God:

Og du skal ofre fredsoffer og spise der; og du skal glede deg for Herren din Gud.

and thou shalt sacrifice peace-offerings, and shalt eat there; and thou shalt rejoice before Jehovah thy God.

Og du skal skrive på steinene alle ordene i denne loven med tydelige bokstaver.

And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

Og Moses og de levittiske prestene talte til hele Israel og sa: Vær stille og hør, Israel: I dag er du blitt Herrens din Guds folk.

And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Keep silence, and hearken, O Israel: this day thou art become the people of Jehovah thy God.

Du skal derfor lyde Herrens din Guds røst og holde hans bud og forskrifter som jeg pålegger deg i dag.

Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

Og Moses ga folket denne befalingen samme dag og sa:

And Moses charged the people the same day, saying,

Disse skal stå på fjellet Gerisim for å velsigne folket når dere har gått over Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issakar, Josef, og Benjamin.

These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are passed over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.

Og disse skal stå på fjellet Ebal for forbannelsen: Ruben, Gad, Asher, Sebulon, Dan, og Naftali.

And these shall stand upon mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.

Og levittene skal svare og si til hele Israels folk med høy røst:

And the Levites shall answer, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

Forbannet er den som lager et utskåret eller støpt bilde, en styggedom for Herren, arbeidet til håndverkeren, og setter det opp i hemmelighet. Og hele folket skal svare og si: Amen.

Cursed be the man that maketh a graven or molten image, an abomination unto Jehovah, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and setteth it up in secret. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som forakter sin far eller sin mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som flytter sin nabos grensemerke. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that removeth his neighbor's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som leder en blind vill. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som vrenger retten for innflytteren, den foreldreløse og enken. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that wresteth the justice `due' to the sojourner, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin fars hustru, for han har avdekket sin fars dekkelse. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife, because he hath uncovered his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med et dyr. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin søster, datteren til sin far eller datteren til sin mor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ligger med sin svigermor. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som slår sin neste i hemmelighet. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbor in secret. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som tar imot bestikkelse for å drepe en uskyldig person. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that taketh a bribe to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Forbannet er den som ikke stadfester ordene i denne loven ved å gjøre dem. Og hele folket skal si: Amen.

Cursed be he that confirmeth not the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
