1 Og han sa til Moses: Kom opp til Herren, du og Aron, Nadab og Abihu og sytti av Israels eldste, og tilbe på avstand.

And he said unto Moses, Come up unto Jehovah, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off:

2 Og Moses alene skal komme nær til Herren; men de andre skal ikke komme nær, og folket skal ikke gå opp med ham.

and Moses alone shall come near unto Jehovah; but they shall not come near; neither shall the people go up with him.

3 Så kom Moses og fortalte folket alle Herrens ord og alle lovene. Og hele folket svarte med én stemme og sa: Alt det Herren har sagt, vil vi gjøre.

And Moses came and told the people all the words of Jehovah, and all the ordinances: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which Jehovah hath spoken will we do.

4 Moses skrev alle Herrens ord, sto opp tidlig om morgenen, og bygde et alter ved foten av fjellet, og satte opp tolv steinpillarer, etter de tolv Israels stammer.

And Moses wrote all the words of Jehovah, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the mount, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

5 Så sendte han unge menn av Israels barn, som bar fram brennofre og ofret fredsofre av okser til Herren.

And he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt-offerings, and sacrificed peace-offerings of oxen unto Jehovah.

6 Moses tok halvparten av blodet, og helte det i skåler; og den andre halvparten sprengte han på alteret.

And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

7 Deretter tok han paktsboken og leste den høyt for folket. Og de sa: Alt det Herren har sagt, vil vi gjøre, og vi vil adlyde.

And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that Jehovah hath spoken will we do, and be obedient.

8 Så tok Moses blodet og sprengte det på folket og sa: Se, dette er paktens blod, den som Herren har opprettet med dere i kraft av alle disse ord.

And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which Jehovah hath made with you concerning all these words.

9 Så gikk Moses opp, sammen med Aron, Nadab og Abihu, og sytti av Israels eldste.

Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel.

10 De så Israels Gud, og under hans føtter var det som et gulv av safirsten, og som selve himmelen i klarhet.

And they saw the God of Israel; and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and as it were the very heaven for clearness.

11 Men han la ikke hånd på Israels barnas fornemme; de skuet Gud, og de spiste og drakk.

And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: and they beheld God, and did eat and drink.

12 Og Herren sa til Moses: Kom opp til meg på fjellet, og bli der, så skal jeg gi deg steintavlene, loven og budene som jeg har skrevet, for at du skal lære dem.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee the tables of stone, and the law and the commandment, which I have written, that thou mayest teach them.

13 Da sto Moses opp og stilte seg sammen med Josva, sin tjener. Og Moses gikk opp på Guds fjell.

And Moses rose up, and Joshua his minister: and Moses went up into the mount of God.

14 Han sa til de eldste: Vent her på oss til vi kommer tilbake til dere. Se, Aron og Hur er med dere; hvis noen har en sak, la ham komme til dem.

And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: whosoever hath a cause, let him come near unto them.

15 Moses gikk opp på fjellet, og skyen dekket fjellet.

And Moses went up into the mount, and the cloud covered the mount.

16 Herrens herlighet hvilte på Sinai-fjellet, og skyen dekket det i seks dager. Og på den syvende dagen ropte han til Moses fra skyen.

And the glory of Jehovah abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

17 Synet av Herrens herlighet var som en fortærende ild på toppen av fjellet for Israels barns øyne.

And the appearance of the glory of Jehovah was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

18 Moses gikk inn i skyens midte, og gikk opp på fjellet. Og Moses var på fjellet i førti dager og førti netter.

And Moses entered into the midst of the cloud, and went up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
