1 Moses svarte og sa: Men se, de vil ikke tro meg og ikke høre på min stemme; for de vil si: Herren har ikke vist seg for deg.

And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice; for they will say, Jehovah hath not appeared unto thee.

2 Herren sa til ham: Hva er det du har i hånden? Han svarte: En stav.

And Jehovah said unto him, What is that in thy hand? And he said, A rod.

3 Og han sa: Kast den på bakken. Og han kastet den på bakken, og den ble til en slange; og Moses flyktet for den.

And he said, Cast in on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

4 Så sa Herren til Moses: Strekk ut hånden og grip den i halen. Så strakte han ut hånden og grep den, og den ble til en stav igjen i hans hånd.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, Put forth thy hand, and take it by the tail: (and he put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand:)

5 Dette skal gjøre at de tror at Herren, deres fedres Gud, Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud, har vist seg for deg.

That they may believe that Jehovah, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

6 Herren sa videre til ham: Stikk hånden din inn i brystet. Han stakk hånden inn i brystet, og da han tok den ut, se, hånden var spedalsk, hvit som snø.

And Jehovah said furthermore unto him, Put now thy hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as `white as' snow.

7 Han sa: Sett hånden din tilbake i brystet igjen. Han satte hånden inn igjen, og da han tok den ut, var den gjenopprettet som resten av kroppens hud.

And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom again. (And he put his hand into his bosom again; and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it was turned again as his `other' flesh.)

8 Hvis de ikke tror deg og ikke hører på det første tegnet, vil de tro det andre tegnet.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

9 Hvis de ikke engang tror disse to tegnene og ikke hører på din stemme, skal du ta vann fra elven og helle det på det tørre landet. Da skal vannet fra elven bli til blod på det tørre.

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe even these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

10 Moses sa til Herren: Å, Herre, jeg er ikke veltalende, verken før eller etter at du talte til din tjener, for jeg er tung i tale og treig i tunge.

And Moses said unto Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

11 Herren sa til ham: Hvem har gitt mennesket munn? Hvem gjør en menneske stum eller døv, eller seende eller blind? Er det ikke jeg, Herren?

And Jehovah said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? Or who maketh `a man' dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah?

12 Så gå nå, og jeg vil være med din munn og lære deg hva du skal si.

Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak.

13 Men han sa: Å, Herre, send nå hvem du vil sende.

And he said, Oh, Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

14 Da ble Herren harm på Moses og sa: Er ikke din bror Aron, levitten, der? Jeg vet at han kan tale godt. Se, han kommer for å møte deg. Når han ser deg, vil han glede seg i sitt hjerte.

And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is there not Aaron thy brother the Levite? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

15 Og du skal tale til ham og legge ordene i hans munn. Jeg vil være med din munn og med hans munn, og jeg vil lære dere hva dere skal gjøre.

And thou shalt speak unto him, and put the words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

16 Han skal tale for deg til folket, og han skal være din munn, og du skal være som Gud for ham.

And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people; and it shall come to pass, that he shall be to thee a mouth, and thou shalt be to him as God.

17 Ta denne staven i hånden, som du skal gjøre tegnene med.

And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod, wherewith thou shalt do the signs.

18 Moses dro tilbake til Jetro, sin svigerfar, og sa til ham: La meg dra og vende tilbake til mine brødre i Egypt for å se om de fortsatt lever. Jetro svarte: Dra i fred.

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren that are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

19 Herren sa til Moses i Midjan: Vend tilbake til Egypt, for alle de som søkte å ta livet ditt, er døde.

And Jehovah said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt; for all the men are dead that sought thy life.

20 Moses tok sin kone og sine sønner, satte dem på et esel og dro tilbake til Egypt. Moses tok Guds stav i hånden.

And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

21 Herren sa til Moses: Når du kommer tilbake til Egypt, pass på å gjøre alle undrene jeg har lagt i din makt, foran farao. Men jeg vil gjøre hans hjerte hardt, så han ikke vil la folket dra.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, When thou goest back into Egypt, see that thou do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in thy hand: but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.

22 Da skal du si til farao: Så sier Herren: Israel er min sønn, min førstefødte.

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, Israel is my son, my first-born:

23 Jeg har sagt til deg: La min sønn dra, så han kan tjene meg. Men du har nektet å la ham gå. Se, jeg vil drepe din sønn, din førstefødte.

and I have said unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me; and thou hast refused to let him go: behold, I will slay thy son, thy first-born.

24 Da skjedde det under reisen, på stedet hvor de hadde slått leir, at Herren møtte ham og ville drepe ham.

And it came to pass on the way at the lodging-place, that Jehovah met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Da tok Sippora en steinflis og kuttet av forhuden til sin sønn, og kastet den ved Moses' føtter og sa: Sannelig, du er en blodig brudgom for meg.

Then Zipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet; and she said, Surely a bridegroom of blood art thou to me.

26 Så lot han ham være i fred. Hun sa en blodig brudgom, på grunn av omskjærelsen.

So he let him alone. Then she said, A bridegroom of blood `art thou', because of the circumcision.

27 Herren sa til Aron: Gå og møt Moses i ørkenen. Han gikk og møtte ham på Guds fjell og kysset ham.

And Jehovah said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mountain of God, and kissed him.

28 Moses fortalte Aron alle Herrens ord, som Han hadde sendt ham med, og alle tegnene Han hadde pålagt ham.

And Moses told Aaron all the words of Jehovah wherewith he had sent him, and all the signs wherewith he had charged him.

29 Moses og Aron gikk og samlet alle Israels barns eldste.

And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

30 Aron talte alle ordene som Herren hadde talt til Moses, og gjorde tegnene for folkets øyne.

and Aaron spake all the words which Jehovah had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

31 Folket trodde, og da de hørte at Herren hadde besøkt Israels barn og sett deres nød, bøyde de seg ned og tilba.

And the people believed: and when they heard that Jehovah had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
