1 Og du, menneskesønn, ta deg et skarpt sverd; som en barberkniv skal du ta det for deg, og la det gå over hodet og skjegget ditt. Så skal du ta vekter for å veie, og dele håret.

And thou, son of man, take thee a sharp sword; `as' a barber's razor shalt thou take it unto thee, and shalt cause it to pass upon thy head and upon thy beard: then take thee balances to weigh, and divide the hair.

2 En tredjedel skal du brenne i ilden midt i byen når beleiringsdagene er fullbyrdet; og en tredjedel skal du slå med sverd rundt om byen; og en tredjedel skal du spre for vinden, og jeg vil trekke sverd etter dem.

A third part shalt thou burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled; and thou shalt take a third part, and smite with the sword round about it; and a third part thou shalt scatter to the wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.

3 Og av dem skal du ta noen få, og binde dem i kappens flik.

And thou shalt take thereof a few in number, and bind them in thy skirts.

4 Og av disse igjen skal du ta, og kaste dem i ilden, og brenne dem i ilden; derfra skal en ild komme ut over hele Israels hus.

And of these again shalt thou take, and cast them into the midst of the fire, and burn them in the fire; therefrom shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel.

5 Så sier Herren Gud: Dette er Jerusalem; jeg har satt henne midt blant folkeslagene, og landene er rundt henne.

Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations, and countries are round about her.

6 Men hun har gjort opprør mot mine påbud og handlet mer ondt enn folkeslagene, og mot mine lover mer enn landene rundt henne; for de har forkastet mine påbud, og hva mine lover angår, har de ikke fulgt dem.

And she hath rebelled against mine ordinances in doing wickedness more than the nations, and against my statutes more than the countries that are round about her; for they have rejected mine ordinances, and as for my statutes, they have not walked in them.

7 Derfor sier Herren Gud: Fordi dere er mer opprørske enn folkeslagene rundt dere, og ikke har fulgt mine lover, heller ikke holdt mine påbud, og ikke har gjort etter folkeslagenes påbud som er rundt dere;

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because ye are turbulent more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept mine ordinances, neither have done after the ordinances of the nations that are round about you;

8 derfor sier Herren Gud: Se, jeg, ja jeg er mot deg; og jeg vil dømme midt iblant deg for øynene på folkeslagene.

therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I, even I, am against thee; and I will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations.

9 Og jeg vil gjøre mot deg det jeg ikke har gjort før, og det jeg aldri mer vil gjøre på grunn av alle dine avskyeligheter.

And I will do in thee that which I have not done, and whereunto I will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations.

10 Derfor skal fedrene spise sønnene midt iblant deg, og sønnene skal spise sine fedre; og jeg vil utføre dom over deg, og hele resten av deg vil jeg spre for alle vinder.

Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments on thee; and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter unto all the winds.

11 Derfor, så sant jeg lever, sier Herren Gud, fordi du har gjort min helligdom uren med alle dine avskyeligheter og med alle dine motbydelige handlinger, derfor vil også jeg gjøre ende på deg; mine øyne skal ikke spare, og jeg vil ikke ha medlidenhet.

Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish `thee'; neither shall mine eye spare, and I also will have no pity.

12 En tredjedel av deg skal dø av pest, og av hunger skal de fortæres midt iblant deg; og en tredjedel skal falle ved sverd rundt deg; og en tredjedel vil jeg spre for alle vinder, og jeg vil trekke sverdet etter dem.

A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee; and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee; and a third part I will scatter unto all the winds, and will draw out a sword after them.

13 Så skal min vrede bli fullbyrdet, og jeg vil tilfredsstille min harme mot dem, og jeg skal være trøstet; og de skal vite at jeg, Herren, har talt i min iver, når jeg har fullbyrdet min harme over dem.

Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest, and I shall be comforted; and they shall know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them.

14 Jeg vil gjøre deg til en ødemark og til hån blant folkeslagene rundt deg, for alle som går forbi.

Moreover I will make thee a desolation and a reproach among the nations that are round about thee, in the sight of all that pass by.

15 Så skal det bli til hån og til spott, til lærdom og til forskrekkelse for folkeslagene rundt deg, når jeg utfører dommer over deg i vrede og i harme, og i strenge irettesettelser; jeg, Herren, har talt det.

So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment, unto the nations that are round about thee, when I shall execute judgments on thee in anger and in wrath, and in wrathful rebukes; (I, Jehovah, have spoken it;)

16 Når jeg sender mot dem de onde pilene av hunger, for undergang, som jeg vil sende for å ødelegge dere; og jeg vil øke hungeren over dere, og jeg vil bryte brødets stav for dere;

when I shall send upon them the evil arrows of famine, that are for destruction, which I will send to destroy you: and I will increase the famine upon you, and will break your staff of bread;

17 og jeg vil sende mot dere hunger og ville dyr, og de skal gjøre deg barnløs; og pest og blod skal gå gjennom deg; og jeg vil bringe sverdet over deg: jeg, Herren, har talt det.

and I will send upon you famine and evil beasts, and they shall bereave thee; and pestilence and blood shall pass through thee; and I will bring the sword upon thee: I, Jehovah, have spoken it.
