Gud husket Noah, alle dyrene og all buskapen som var med ham i arken. Gud lot en vind blåse over jorden, og vannet begynte å trekke seg tilbake.

And God remembered Noah, and all the beasts, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged;

Kildene i dypet og himmelens sluser ble stengt, og regnet fra himmelen opphørte.

the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

Vannet trakk seg stadig tilbake fra jorden, og etter hundre og femti dager minket vannet.

and the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters decreased.

I den syvende måneden, på den syttende dagen i måneden, hvilte arken på fjellene i Ararat.

And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

Vannet minket jevnt til den tiende måneden. I den tiende måneden, på den første dagen, ble fjelltoppene synlige.

And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

Og da førti dager var gått, åpnet Noah vinduet i arken som han hadde laget.

And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made:

Han sendte ut en ravn, og den fløy fram og tilbake til vannet var tørket opp fra jorden.

and he sent forth a raven, and it went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.

Så sendte han ut en due for å se om vannet hadde forsvunnet fra jordens overflate.

And he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;

Men duen fant ingen sted å hvile foten, og den vendte tilbake til ham i arken, for det var fortsatt vann over hele jorden. Han rakte ut hånden, tok den og brakte den tilbake inn i arken.

but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him to the ark; for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: and he put forth his hand, and took her, and brought her in unto him into the ark.

Han ventet enda syv dager, og igjen sendte han duen ut av arken.

And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;

Om kvelden kom duen tilbake til ham i arken, og se, den hadde et nyplukket oljeblad i nebbet. Da forstod Noah at vannet hadde trukket seg tilbake fra jorden.

and the dove came in to him at eventide; and, lo, in her mouth an olive-leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

Han ventet enda syv dager til, og sendte duen ut igjen, men denne gangen vendte den ikke tilbake til ham.

And he stayed yet other seven days, and sent forth the dove; and she returned not again unto him any more.

Det skjedde i det seks hundre og første året, i den første måneden, på den første dagen av måneden, at vannet hadde tørket opp fra jorden. Noah tok av dekselet på arken og så at bakken var tørr.

And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dried.

På den syvende og tjuefemte dagen i den andre måneden var jorden tørr.

And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dry.

Gud talte til Noah og sa:

And God spake unto Noah, saying,

Gå ut av arken, du og din kone, dine sønner og deres koner.

Go forth from the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee.

Ta med deg alle levende skapninger som er med deg, av alle slags dyr, fugler og alt kryp som kryper på jorden, så de kan formere seg riklig på jorden og være fruktbare og bli mange.

Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee of all flesh, both birds, and cattle, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.

Noah gikk ut, med sine sønner, sin kone og sine sønners koner.

And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him:

Alle dyrene, alt krypet og alle fuglene, alt som beveger seg på jorden, gikk ut av arken i sine familier.

every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, whatsoever moveth upon the earth, after their families, went forth out of the ark.

Noah bygget et alter for Herren og tok av hvert rent dyr og hver ren fugl, og ofret brennoffer på alteret.

And Noah builded an altar unto Jehovah, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean bird, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar.

Herren kjente den behagelige duften, og sa i sitt hjerte: Jeg skal aldri mer forbanne jorden på grunn av menneskene, for menneskets hjertes tanker er onde fra ungdommen av. Jeg skal aldri mer slå alt levende slik jeg har gjort.

And Jehovah smelled the sweet savor; and Jehovah said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake, for that the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done.

Så lenge jorden består, skal såtid og høst, kulde og varme, sommer og vinter, dag og natt aldri opphøre.

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
