1 På den dagen skal Herren med sitt harde og mektige og sterke sverd straffe Leviatan, den raske slangen, og Leviatan, den krokete slangen; og han skal drepe uhyret som er i havet.

In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.

2 På den dagen: En vingård med vin, syng om den.

In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it.

3 Jeg, Herren, er dens vokter; jeg vil vanne den hvert øyeblikk, for at ingen skal skade den, vil jeg vokte den natt og dag.

I Jehovah am its keeper; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

4 Vrede er ikke i meg: om bare torner og tistler stod imot meg i kamp! Jeg ville gå frem mot dem, jeg ville brenne dem opp sammen.

Wrath is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together.

5 Eller la ham gripe min styrke, så han kan slutte fred med meg; ja, la ham slutte fred med meg.

Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; `yea', let him make peace with me.

6 I kommende dager skal Jakob slå rot; Israel skal blomstre og gro, og de skal fylle verden med frukt.

In days to come shall Jacob take root; Israel shall blossom and bud; and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit.

7 Har han slått dem slik han slo dem som slo dem? Eller er de drept slik de som ble drept av dem ble drept?

Hath he smitten them as he smote those that smote them? or are they slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by them?

8 Ved tilmålt straff, når du sender dem bort, strider du med dem; han har fjernet dem med sin sterke vind på dagen for østavinden.

In measure, when thou sendest them away, thou dost content with them; he hath removed `them' with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.

Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: that he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, `so that' the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.

10 For den befestede byen er ensom, en bosted forlatt og forlatt, som en ørken: der skal kalven beite, der skal den legge seg, og fortære dens grener.

For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.

11 Når dens greiner vissner, skal de brytes av; kvinnene skal komme og sette dem i brann; for det er et folk uten forstand: derfor skal han som skapte dem ikke ha medfølelse med dem, og han som formet dem skal ikke vise dem nåde.

When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire; for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have compassion upon them, and he that formed them will show them no favor.

12 Og det skal skje på den dagen, at Herren skal slå av sin frukt fra strømmen av elven til Egypts bekk; og dere skal bli samlet én etter én, dere Israels barn.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will beat off `his fruit' from the flood of the River unto the brook of Egypt; and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.

13 Og det skal skje på den dagen, at et stort horn skal blåses; og de som var i ferd med å gå til grunne i Assyrias land, og de som var fordrevne i Egypts land, skal komme; og de skal tilbe Herren på det hellige fjellet i Jerusalem.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come that were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship Jehovah in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
