1 I begynnelsen av regjeringstiden til Jojakim, sønn av Josjia, kongen av Juda, kom dette ordet til Jeremia fra Herren, og sa:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 Så sier Herren til meg: Lag deg bånd og stokker, og legg dem om halsen din;

Thus saith Jehovah to me: Make thee bonds and bars, and put them upon thy neck;

3 og send dem til kongen av Edom, og til kongen av Moab, og til kongen av Ammonittene, og til kongen av Tyros, og til kongen av Sidon, med budbringere som kommer til Jerusalem til Sidkia, kongen av Juda;

and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers that come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

4 og gi dem et bud til deres herrer, og si: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Slik skal dere si til deres herrer:

and give them a charge unto their masters, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say unto your masters:

5 Jeg har skapt jorden, menneskene og dyrene som er på jordens overflate, med min store makt og med min utstrakte arm; og jeg gir det til den jeg finner riktig.

I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it unto whom it seemeth right unto me.

6 Og nå har jeg gitt alle disse landene i hendene på Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, min tjener; og også markens dyr har jeg gitt til ham for å tjene ham.

And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field also have I given him to serve him.

7 Og alle nasjonene skal tjene ham, og hans sønn, og hans sønnesønn, inntil tiden kommer for hans eget land: da skal mange nasjoner og store konger gjøre ham til sin slave.

And all the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land come: and then many nations and great kings shall make him their bondman.

8 Og det skal skje, det folket og det riket som ikke vil tjene Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, og som ikke vil legge sin nakke under kongens åk, det folket vil jeg straffe, sier Herren, med sverdet, og med hungersnøden, og med pesten, inntil jeg har fortært dem ved hans hånd.

And it shall come to pass, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith Jehovah, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

9 Men som for dere, lytt ikke til deres profeter, eller til deres spåmenn, eller til deres drømmer, eller til deres spåkoner, eller til deres trollmenn, som sier til dere: Dere skal ikke tjene kongen av Babylon.

But as for you, hearken ye not to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your soothsayers, nor to your sorcerers, that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:

10 For de spår løgn til dere, for å drive dere langt bort fra deres land, og for at jeg skal drive dere ut, og dere skal gå til grunne.

for they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land, and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

11 Men det folket som vil legge sin nakke under kongens åk, og tjene ham, det folket vil jeg la bli i sitt eget land, sier Herren; og de skal dyrke det og bo der.

But the nation that shall bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, that `nation' will I let remain in their own land, saith Jehovah; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.

12 Og jeg talte til Sidkia, kongen av Juda, i samsvar med alle disse ordene og sa: Legg deres nakker under kongens åk, og tjen ham og hans folk, og lev.

And I spake to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

13 Hvorfor vil dere dø, du og ditt folk, ved sverdet, ved hungersnøden og ved pesten, slik som Herren har sagt om det folket som ikke vil tjene kongen av Babylon?

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as Jehovah hath spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

14 Og lytt ikke til ordene fra profetene som taler til dere, og sier: Dere skal ikke tjene kongen av Babylon; for de spår løgn til dere.

And hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

15 For jeg har ikke sendt dem, sier Herren, men de spår falskt i mitt navn, for at jeg kan drive dere ut, og at dere skal gå til grunne, dere og de profetene som spår for dere.

For I have not sent them, saith Jehovah, but they prophesy falsely in my name; that I may drive you out, and that ye may perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

16 Også talte jeg til prestene og til hele folket og sa: Så sier Herren: Lytt ikke til ordene fra deres profeter som spår til dere og sier: Se, karene fra Herrens hus skal snart bringes tilbake fra Babylon; for de spår løgn til dere.

Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of Jehovah's house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

17 Lytt ikke til dem; tjen kongen av Babylon, og lev: hvorfor skulle denne byen bli en ørken?

Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city become a desolation?

18 Men hvis de er profeter, og hvis Herrens ord er med dem, la dem nå be Herren, hærskarenes Gud, at karene som er igjen i Herrens hus, og i kongens hus i Juda, og i Jerusalem, ikke dras til Babylon.

But if they be prophets, and if the word of Jehovah be with them, let them now make intercession to Jehovah of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of Jehovah, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.

19 For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud om søylene, og om havet, og om basene, og om resten av karene som er igjen i denne byen,

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city,

20 som Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, ikke tok, da han førte i fangenskap Jekonja, sønn av Jojakim, kongen av Juda, fra Jerusalem til Babylon, og alle de edle av Juda og Jerusalem;

which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;

21 ja, så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud, om karene som er igjen i Herrens hus, og i kongens hus i Juda, og i Jerusalem:

yea, thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of Jehovah, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem:

22 De skal føres til Babylon, og der skal de være til den dagen jeg ser dem, sier Herren; da vil jeg føre dem opp og gjenopprette dem til dette stedet.

They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be, until the day that I visit them, saith Jehovah; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.
