The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

2 På den tiden beleiret den babylonske kongens hær Jerusalem, og profeten Jeremia var fengslet i vaktgården, som var i kongen av Judas hus.

Now at that time the king of Babylon's army was besieging Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah's house.

3 For Sidkia, kongen av Juda, hadde sperret ham inne og sagt: Hvorfor profeterer du og sier: Så sier Herren: Se, jeg vil gi denne byen i hendene på babylonerkongen, og han skal innta den;

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

4 og Sidkia, kongen av Juda, skal ikke slippe unna kaldeernes hånd, men skal overgis til kongen av Babylon, og han skal snakke med ham ansikt til ansikt, og hans øyne skal se hans øyne.

and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

5 Og han skal ta Sidkia til Babylon, der skal han være til jeg tar meg av ham, sier Herren. Selv om dere kjemper mot kaldeerne, skal dere ikke lykkes?

and he shall bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith Jehovah: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?

6 Og Jeremia sa: Herrens ord kom til meg og sa:

And Jeremiah said, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

7 Se, Hanamel, sønn av din onkel Shallum, skal komme til deg og si: Kjøp mitt jorde i Anatot; for du har retten til innløsning til å kjøpe det.

Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.

8 Så kom Hanamel, min onkels sønn, til meg i vaktgården i samsvar med Herrens ord, og sa til meg: Jeg ber deg, kjøp mitt jorde i Anatot, som er i Benjamins land; for retten til arv er din, og innløsningen er din; kjøp det for deg selv. Da forsto jeg at dette var Herrens ord.

So Hanamel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Jehovah, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of Jehovah.

9 Og jeg kjøpte jordet i Anatot av Hanamel, min onkels sønn, og veide opp for ham pengene, sytten sjekel sølv.

And I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel mine uncle's son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

10 Og jeg skrev en skjøte, forseglet det, kalte vitner, og veide opp pengene med vekten.

And I subscribed the deed, and sealed it, and called witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

11 Så tok jeg kjøpeskjøtet, både det som var forseglet etter lov og sedvane, og det som var åpent.

So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed, `according to' the law and custom, and that which was open:

12 Og jeg ga kjøpeskjøtet til Baruk, sønn av Neria, sønn av Mahseja, i nærvær av Hanamel, min onkels sønn, og i nærvær av vitnene som hadde signert kjøpeskjøtet, foran alle jødene som satt i vaktgården.

and I delivered the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel mine uncle's `son', and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the guard.

13 Og jeg ga Baruk ordre foran dem, og sa:

And I charged Baruch before them, saying,

14 Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Ta disse dokumentene, denne kjøpsskjøtet som er forseglet, og dette som er åpent, og legg dem i en leirkrukke, så de kan bevares i mange dager.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase which is sealed, and this deed which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel; that they may continue many days.

15 For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Hus og jorder og vingårder skal igjen kjøpes i dette landet.

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall yet again be bought in this land.

16 Etter at jeg hadde overlevert kjøpeskjøtet til Baruk, sønn av Neria, ba jeg til Herren og sa:

Now after I had delivered the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto Jehovah, saying,

17 Å, Herre Gud! Se, du har skapt himmelen og jorden med din store kraft og utstrakte arm; ingenting er for vanskelig for deg.

Ah Lord Jehovah! behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and by thine outstretched arm; there is nothing too hard for thee,

18 Du viser miskunn mot tusener, men lar fedrenes misgjerning komme i fanget på deres barn etter dem. Den store og mektige Gud, Herren over hærskarene, er hans navn;

who showest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them; the great, the mighty God, Jehovah of hosts is his name;

19 stor i råd og mektig i gjerning; dine øyne er åpne for alle menneskenes veier, for å gi enhver etter hans veier og fruktene av hans gjerninger.

great in counsel, and mighty in work; whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

20 Du satte tegn og under i Egypt, og gjør det fortsatt, både i Israel og blant andre mennesker, og du har gjort deg et navn, som den dag i dag.

who didst set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, both in Israel and among `other' men; and madest thee a name, as at this day;

21 Du førte ditt folk Israel ut av Egypt med tegn og under, med sterk hånd og utstrakt arm, og med stor frykt.

and didst bring forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

22 Og du ga dem dette landet, som du hadde sverget til deres fedre å gi dem, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

and gavest them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

23 Og de kom inn og tok det i eie, men de adlød ikke din røst, heller ikke vandret de etter din lov; de har ikke gjort noe av det du befalte dem å gjøre, derfor har du latt alt dette onde komme over dem.

and they came in, and possessed it, but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them.

24 Se, vollene er kommet opp mot byen for å ta den; og byen er gitt i hendene på kaldeerne som kjemper mot den, på grunn av sverdet, sulten og pesten; og det du har sagt er blitt til virkelighet; og se, du ser det.

Behold, the mounds, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence; and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.

25 Og du har sagt til meg, Herre Gud, Kjøp deg jord for penger, og få vitner, selv om byen er overgitt til kaldeerne.

And thou hast said unto me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy thee the field for money, and call witnesses; whereas the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

26 Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremia og sa:

Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

27 Se, jeg er Herren, alt kjødets Gud: er det noe som er for vanskelig for meg?

Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

28 Derfor sier Herren: Se, jeg vil gi denne byen i hendene på kaldeerne, og i hendene på Nebukadnesar, kongen av Babylon, og han skal innta den.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

29 Og kaldeerne, som kjemper mot denne byen, skal komme og sette byen i brann, og brenne den, med husene på takene hvor de har ofret røkelse til Baal og utøst drikkofre til andre guder for å vekke min harme.

and the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink-offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

30 For Israels barn og Judas barn har bare gjort det som var ondt i mine øyne helt fra deres ungdom; for Israels barn har bare provosert meg til vrede med sine henders gjerninger, sier Herren.

For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only that which was evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith Jehovah.

31 For denne byen har vært en grunn til min vrede og harme fra den dagen de bygde den til denne dag; slik at jeg skulle fjerne den fra mitt åsyn,

For this city hath been to me a provocation of mine anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

32 på grunn av alt det onde som Israels barn og Judas barn har gjort for å provosere meg, de, deres konger, deres fyrster, deres prester, deres profeter, Judamennene og Jerusalems innbyggere.

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

33 Og de har vendt ryggen til meg, og ikke ansiktet. Selv når jeg underviste dem, stående tidlig opp og underviste dem, lyttet de ikke for å motta instruksjon.

And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: and though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.

34 Men de satte sine avskyeligheter i huset som bærer mitt navn, for å besmitte det.

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

35 Og de bygde Baals høye steder, som er i Hinnoms sønns dal, for å få deres sønner og døtre til å gå gjennom ilden til Molok, noe jeg ikke befalte dem, og det kom ikke opp i mitt sinn å gjøre denne avskyeligheten, for å få Juda til å synde.

And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through `the fire' unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

36 Nå, derfor, sier Herren, Israels Gud, om denne byen som dere sier er gitt i hendene på Babylons konge ved sverdet, sulten og pesten:

And now therefore thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning this city, whereof ye say, It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence:

37 Se, jeg vil samle dem fra alle landene hvor jeg har drevet dem ut i min vrede, med stort sinne og indignasjon; og jeg vil bringe dem tilbake til dette stedet, og la dem bo trygt.

Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

38 Og de skal være mitt folk, og jeg vil være deres Gud.

and they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

39 Og jeg vil gi dem ett hjerte og én vei, så de kan frykte meg for alltid, til deres eget beste og deres barn etter dem.

and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

40 Og jeg vil inngå en evig pakt med dem, at jeg ikke vil vende meg fra dem for å gjøre dem godt, og jeg vil legge min frykt i deres hjerter, så de ikke skal vende seg bort fra meg.

and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me.

41 Ja, jeg vil glede meg over dem, for å gjøre dem godt, og jeg vil plante dem i dette landet med hele mitt hjerte og hele min sjel.

Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

42 For så sier Herren: Likesom jeg har brakt alt dette store onde over dette folket, slik vil jeg også bringe over dem alt det gode jeg har lovet dem.

For thus saith Jehovah: Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

43 Og jorder skal kjøpes i dette landet, som dere sier er øde, uten mennesker eller dyr; det er gitt i hendene på kaldeerne.

And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate, without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

44 Mennesker skal kjøpe jorder for penger, skrive skjøter, forsegle dem og kalle vitner, i Benjamins land og rundt omkring Jerusalem, i Judas byer, i fjellbygdenes byer, i lavlandets byer, og i byene i sør: for jeg vil la dem vende tilbake fra fangenskap, sier Herren.

Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the deeds, and seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill-country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith Jehovah.
