1 Han begynte å tale til dem i lignelser. En mann plantet en vingård, satte et gjerde rundt den, gravde en grop for vinpressen, bygde et tårn og leide den ut til vinbønder, og dro til et annet land.

And he began to speak unto them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.

2 Da tiden kom, sendte han en tjener til vinbøndene for å motta noe av avlingen fra vingården.

And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard.

3 Men de tok ham, slo ham og sendte ham bort tomhendt.

And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

4 Så sendte han en annen tjener til dem. Ham slo de i hodet og mishandlet.

And again he sent unto them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and handled shamefully.

5 Han sendte enda en, og ham drepte de; og mange andre; noen slo de, og noen drepte de.

And he sent another; and him they killed: and many others; beating some, and killing some.

6 Til slutt hadde han en, sin elskede sønn. Ham sendte han dem til sist og sa: De vil nok ha respekt for min sønn.

He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

7 Men vinbøndene sa til hverandre: Dette er arvingen. Kom, la oss drepe ham, så blir arven vår.

But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.

8 Og de tok ham, drepte ham og kastet ham ut av vingården.

And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard.

9 Hva vil da vingårdens herre gjøre? Han vil komme og ødelegge vinbøndene, og gi vingården til andre.

What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

10 Har dere ikke lest denne skrift: Steinen som bygningsmennene vraket, er blitt hjørnesteinen?

Have ye not read even this scripture: The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner;

11 Dette er fra Herren, og det er underfullt i våre øyne.

This was from the Lord, And it is marvellous in our eyes?

12 De prøvde å gripe ham, men fryktet for folkemengden, for de skjønte at han hadde fortalt lignelsen mot dem. Så lot de ham være og gikk bort.

And they sought to lay hold on him; and they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spake the parable against them: and they left him, and went away.

13 Så sendte de noen av fariseerne og herodianerne til ham for å fange ham i ord.

And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they might catch him in talk.

14 Da de kom, sa de til ham: Lærer, vi vet at du er sann og ikke bryr deg om noen, for du ser ikke på person, men lærer sannheten om Guds vei. Er det tillatt å gi skatt til keiseren eller ikke?

And when they were come, they say unto him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and carest not for any one; for thou regardest not the person of men, but of a truth teachest the way of God: Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

15 Skal vi gi, eller skal vi ikke gi? Men han, som visste om deres hykleri, sa til dem: Hvorfor setter dere meg på prøve? Ta med en denar, så jeg kan se den.

Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why make ye trial of me? bring me a denarius, that I may see it.

16 Og de brakte den. Og han spurte dem: Hvem sitt bilde og inskripsjon er dette? De svarte: Keiseren.

And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

17 Da sa Jesus til dem: Gi keiseren det som tilhører keiseren, og Gud det som tilhører Gud. Og de undret seg stort over ham.

And Jesus said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marvelled greatly at him.

18 Så kom saddukeerne til ham, som sier at det ikke er noen oppstandelse, og de stilte ham et spørsmål,

And there come unto him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Lærer, Moses skrev til oss: Hvis en manns bror dør og etterlater seg en hustru men ingen barn, skal hans bror gifte seg med enken og skaffe barn til sin bror.

Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave a wife behind him, and leave no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Det var syv brødre. Den første tok en hustru, men døde uten å etterlate seg barn.

There were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed;

21 Den andre tok henne, men også han døde uten å etterlate seg barn. Og den tredje på samme måte.

and the second took her, and died, leaving no seed behind him; and the third likewise:

22 Så ingen av de syv etterlot seg barn. Til slutt døde også kvinnen.

and the seven left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.

23 I oppstandelsen, hvem sin kone skal hun da være siden alle syv hadde henne til hustru?

In the resurrection whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 Jesus svarte dem: Er det ikke derfor dere tar feil, fordi dere ikke kjenner skriftene eller Guds kraft?

Jesus said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye err, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?

25 For når de står opp fra de døde, gifter de seg verken eller blir giftet bort; men er som englene i himmelen.

For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as angels in heaven.

26 Men angående de døde, at de reiser seg: Har dere ikke lest i Mosa-loven, der det står om den brennende busken, hvordan Gud sa til ham: Jeg er Abrahams Gud, Isaks Gud og Jakobs Gud?

But as touching the dead, that they are raised; have ye not read in the book of Moses, in `the place concerning' the Bush, how God spake unto him, saying, I `am' the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

27 Han er ikke de dødes Gud, men de levendes. Dere tar grundig feil.

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: ye do greatly err.

28 En av de skriftlærde kom og hørte dem diskutere, og da han forsto at Jesus hadde svart dem godt, spurte han ham: Hva er det første budet av alle?

And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, What commandment is the first of all?

29 Jesus svarte: Det første er: Hør, Israel, Herren vår Gud, Herren er én.

Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one:

30 Og du skal elske Herren din Gud av hele ditt hjerte, hele din sjel, hele ditt sinn og all din styrke.

and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.

31 Det andre er dette: Du skal elske din neste som deg selv. Det finnes ikke noe bud større enn disse.

The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

32 Den skriftlærde sa til ham: Sant, lærer, du har sagt godt at han er én, og det finnes ingen annen utenom ham.

And the scribe said unto him, Of a truth, Teacher, thou hast well said that he is one; and there is none other but he:

33 Og å elske ham med hele sitt hjerte, hele sin forståelse, all sin styrke og å elske sin neste som seg selv, er mye mer verdt enn alle helbrennoffer og ofre.

and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is much more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

34 Da Jesus så at han svarte klokt, sa han til ham: Du er ikke langt fra Guds rike. Og ingen våget deretter å stille ham noe spørsmål.

And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

35 Mens Jesus lærte i tempelet, spurte han: Hvordan kan de skriftlærde si at Messias er Davids sønn?

And Jesus answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that the Christ is the son of David?

36 David selv sa ved Den Hellige Ånd: Herren sa til min Herre: Sett deg ved min høyre hånd, til jeg legger dine fiender som skammel for dine føtter.

David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

37 David selv kaller ham Herre, hvordan kan han da være hans sønn? Og den store folkemengden lyttet til ham med glede.

David himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

38 I sin undervisning sa han: Vokt dere for de skriftlærde, som liker å gå omkring i lange kapper og bli hilst i markedene,

And in his teaching he said, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and `to have' salutations in the marketplaces,

39 og sitte øverst i synagogene og ha de beste plassene ved gjestebudene.

and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts:

40 De raner enkers hus og for syns skyld lager de lange bønner. De skal få en desto strengere dom.

they that devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers; these shall receive greater condemnation.

41 Han satte seg rett overfor tempelkisten og så hvordan folket la penger i kisten. Mange rike la mye.

And he sat down over against the treasury, and beheld how the multitude cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 Så kom en fattig enke og la i to småmynter, som utgjør en kvadrans.

And there came a poor widow, and she cast in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 Han kalte til seg disiplene sine og sa: Sannelig sier jeg dere: Denne fattige enken har gitt mer enn alle de som la penger i tempelkisten.

And he called unto him his disciples, and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, This poor widow cast in more than all they that are casting into the treasury:

44 For de ga alle av det de hadde i overflod, men hun ga av sin fattigdom alt hun hadde, alt hun eide og levde av.

for they all did cast in of their superfluity; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, `even' all her living.
