1 Til engelen for menigheten i Sardes skriv: Dette sier han som har de syv Guds Ånder og de syv stjerner: Jeg vet om dine gjerninger, at du har navn av å leve, men du er død.

And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead.

2 Vær våken og styrk de som er igjen, de som var i ferd med å dø, for jeg har ikke funnet at dine gjerninger er fullkomne for min Gud.

Be thou watchful, and establish the things that remain, which were ready to die: for I have found no works of thine perfected before my God.

3 Husk derfor hvordan du har mottatt og hørt, hold fast på det og omvend deg. For hvis du ikke våker, skal jeg komme som en tyv, og du vil ikke vite hvilken time jeg kommer over deg.

Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep `it', and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

4 Men du har noen få i Sardes som ikke har flekket til klærne sine, og de skal vandre med meg i hvitt, for de er verdige.

But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments: and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy.

5 Den som seirer, han skal bli kledd i hvite klær, og jeg vil aldri stryke navnet hans ut av livets bok, og jeg vil bekjenne navnet hans for min Far og for hans engler.

He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

6 Den som har et øre, hør hva Ånden sier til menighetene.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.

7 Og til engelen for menigheten i Filadelfia skriv: Dette sier den hellige, den sanne, han som har Davids nøkkel, som åpner og ingen lukker, og som lukker og ingen åpner:

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and none shall shut, and that shutteth and none openeth:

8 Jeg vet om dine gjerninger. Se, jeg har satt foran deg en åpnet dør, som ingen kan lukke, for du har liten kraft, og du har holdt fast på mitt ord og ikke fornektet mitt navn.

I know thy works (behold, I have set before thee a door opened, which none can shut), that thou hast a little power, and didst keep my word, and didst not deny my name.

9 Se, jeg vil la noen av Satans synagoge, de som sier de er jøder, men ikke er det, men lyver, se, jeg vil få dem til å komme og tilbe foran dine føtter, og de skal vite at jeg elsker deg.

Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

10 Fordi du har holdt fast på mitt tålmodighetsord, vil jeg også bevare deg fra prøvens tid som skal komme over hele verden for å prøve dem som bor på jorden.

Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that `hour' which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Jeg kommer snart: Hold fast på det du har, så ingen tar din krone.

I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown.

12 Den som seirer, vil jeg gjøre til en søyle i min Guds tempel, og han skal aldri gå ut derfra, og jeg vil skrive på ham min Guds navn og navnet på min Guds by, det nye Jerusalem, som kommer ned fra himmelen fra min Gud, og mitt nye navn.

He that overcometh, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out thence no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and mine own new name.

13 Den som har et øre, hør hva Ånden sier til menighetene.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.

14 Og til engelen for menigheten i Laodikea skriv: Dette sier Amen, det trofaste og sanne vitne, Guds skapelses begynnelse:

And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:

15 Jeg vet om dine gjerninger, at du verken er kald eller varm. Jeg skulle ønske du var kald eller varm!

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

16 Fordi du er lunken, og verken varm eller kald, vil jeg spytte deg ut av min munn.

So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth.

17 Fordi du sier: Jeg er rik, jeg har blitt rik og trenger ingenting, og vet ikke at du er elendig, ynkelig, fattig, blind og naken,

Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked:

18 Jeg råder deg til å kjøpe av meg gull som er lutret i ild, så du blir rik, og hvite klær, så du kan kle deg, og din nakenhets skam ikke blir synlig, og salve til å smøre dine øyne, så du kan se.

I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and `that' the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see.

19 Alle som jeg elsker, dem refser og tukter jeg. Vær derfor ivrig og omvend deg.

As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

20 Se, jeg står for døren og banker. Om noen hører min røst og åpner døren, vil jeg gå inn til ham og spise med ham, og han med meg.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

21 Den som seirer, vil jeg gi å sitte med meg på min trone, slik jeg også seiret og satte meg med min Far på hans trone.

He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.

22 Den som har et øre, hør hva Ånden sier til menighetene.
