1 I tre år var det ingen krig mellom Aram og Israel.

Now for three years there was no war between Aram and Israel.

2 Men i det tredje året dro Josjafat, kongen av Juda, ned til kongen av Israel.

And it came about in the third year, that Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, came down to the king of Israel.

3 Kongen av Israel sa til sine tjenere: Ser dere ikke at Ramot i Gilead tilhører oss, men vi gjør ingenting for å ta det tilbake fra kongen av Aram?

And the king of Israel said to his servants, Do you not see that Ramoth-gilead is ours? and we are doing nothing to get it back from the hands of the king of Aram.

4 Han sa også til Josjafat: Vil du gå med meg for å kjempe mot Ramot i Gilead? Og Josjafat svarte kongen av Israel: Jeg er som du er, mitt folk som ditt folk, mine hester som dine hester.

And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead to make war? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are: my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

5 Da sa Josjafat til kongen av Israel: La oss først spørre Herren om råd.

Then Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Let us now get directions from the Lord.

6 Så kongen av Israel samlet alle profetene, omtrent fire hundre menn, og spurte dem: Skal jeg gå til krig mot Ramot i Gilead, eller skal jeg la være? Og de svarte: Dra opp, for Herren vil gi det i kongens hånd.

So the king of Israel got all the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Am I to go to Ramoth-gilead to make war or not? And they said, Go up: for the Lord will give it into the hands of the king.

7 Men Josjafat sa: Er det ikke en annen profet for Herren her, som vi kan spørre til råds?

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there no other prophet of the Lord here from whom we may get directions?

8 Kongen av Israel sa til Josjafat: Det er enda en mann som vi kan spørre Herren om råd gjennom, Mika, sønn av Jimla. Men jeg liker ham ikke, for han profeterer aldri noe godt om meg, bare ondt. Josjafat sa: Kongen bør ikke si sånt.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is still one man by whom we may get directions from the Lord, Micaiah, son of Imlah; but I have no love for him, for he is a prophet of evil to me and not of good. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

9 Så kongen av Israel kalte på en av sine tjenere og sa: Gå fort og hent Mika, sønn av Jimla.

Then the king of Israel sent for one of his unsexed servants and said, Go quickly and come back with Micaiah, the son of Imlah.

10 Kongen av Israel og Josjafat, kongen i Juda, satt på sine troner, kledd i sine drakter, ved inngangen til Samaria, og alle profetene profeterte foran dem.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, were seated on their seats of authority, dressed in their robes, by the doorway into Samaria; and all the prophets were acting as prophets before them.

11 Og Sidkia, sønn av Kanaan, lagde seg jernhorn og sa: Så sier Herren: Med disse skal du støte arameerne til grunne.

And Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, made himself horns of iron and said, The Lord says, Pushing back the Aramaeans with these, you will put an end to them completely.

12 Alle profetene sa det samme, og sa: Dra opp til Ramot i Gilead, det vil gå deg godt, for Herren vil gi det i kongens hånd.

And all the prophets said the same thing, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and it will go well for you, for the Lord will give it into the hands of the king.

13 Tjeneren som hadde hentet Mika sa til ham: Se, alle profetene sier med ett sinn gode ting til kongen; la derfor dine ord være som deres, og si noe godt.

Now the servant who had gone to get Micaiah said to him, See now, all the prophets with one voice are saying good things to the king; so let your words be like theirs and say good things.

14 Men Mika svarte: Så sant Herren lever, det som Herren sier til meg, det vil jeg si.

And Micaiah said, By the living Lord, whatever the Lord says to me I will say.

15 Da han kom til kongen, sa kongen til ham: Mika, skal vi dra til krig mot Ramot i Gilead, eller skal vi la være? Og han svarte: Dra opp, og det vil gå deg godt, for Herren vil gi det i kongens hånd.

When he came to the king, the king said to him, Micaiah, are we to go to Ramoth-gilead to make war or not? And in answer he said, Go up, and it will go well for you; and the Lord will give it into the hands of the king.

16 Da sa kongen til ham: Hvor mange ganger skal jeg la deg sverge at du ikke forteller meg annet enn sannheten i Herrens navn?

Then the king said to him, Have I not, again and again, put you on your oath to say nothing to me but what is true in the name of the Lord?

17 Og han sa: Jeg så hele Israel spredt på fjellene som sauer uten gjeter; og Herren sa: Disse har ingen herre, la dem dra hjem i fred.

Then he said, I saw all Israel wandering on the mountains like sheep without a keeper; and the Lord said, These have no master: let them go back, every man to his house in peace.

18 Kongen av Israel sa til Josjafat: Sa jeg ikke til deg at han aldri vil profetere noe godt om meg, bare ondt?

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not say that he would not be a prophet of good but of evil?

19 Mika sa: Hør Herrens ord: Jeg så Herren sitte på sin trone, med hele himmelens hærskare stående rundt ham, på hans høyre og venstre side.

And he said, Give ear now to the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord seated on his seat of power, with all the army of heaven in their places round him at his right hand and at his left.

20 Og Herren sa: Hvem vil lokke Ahab til å dra opp til Ramot i Gilead, så han faller der? Den ene sa et og den andre et annet.

And the Lord said, How may Ahab be tricked into going up to Ramoth-gilead to his death? And one said one thing and one another.

21 Da kom en ånd fram og stilte seg foran Herren og sa: Jeg skal lokke ham.

Then a spirit came forward and took his place before the Lord and said, I will get him to do it by a trick.

22 Herren sa: Hvordan? Og han sa: Jeg skal gå ut og bli en løgnens ånd i munnen på alle hans profeter. Da sa Herren: Du skal lykkes med å lokke ham; gå ut og gjør det.

And the Lord said, How? And he said, I will go out and be a spirit of deceit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Your trick will have its effect on him: go out and do so.

23 Så se, Herren har lagt en løgnens ånd i munnen på alle disse profetene dine; Herren har talt ondt mot deg.

And now, see, the Lord has put a spirit of deceit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and the Lord has said evil against you.

24 Da gikk Sidkia, sønn av Kanaan, bort og slo Mika på kinnet og sa: Hvor gikk Herrens ånd fra meg for å tale til deg?

Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, came near and gave Micaiah a blow on the side of the face, saying, Where is the spirit of the Lord whose word is in you?

25 Mika svarte: Se, du skal få se det den dagen når du går inn i et indre rom for å skjule deg.

And Micaiah said, Truly, you will see on that day when you go into an inner room to keep yourself safe.

26 Kongen av Israel sa: Ta Mika og send ham tilbake til Amon, byens hersker, og til Joaş, kongens sønn.

And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon, the ruler of the town, and to Joash, the king's son;

27 Og si: Dette er kongens befaling: Sett denne mannen i fengsel og gi ham fangekost til jeg kommer tilbake i fred.

And say, It is the king's order that this man is to be put in prison and given prison food till I come again in peace.

28 Mika sa: Hvis du virkelig kommer tilbake i fred, har ikke Herren talt gjennom meg.

And Micaiah said, If you come back at all in peace, the Lord has not sent his word by me.

29 Kongen av Israel og Josjafat, kongen av Juda, dro opp til Ramot i Gilead.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, went up to Ramoth-gilead.

30 Kongen av Israel sa til Josjafat: Jeg vil kle meg om, så jeg ikke blir gjenkjent som konge, og gå inn i kampen; men du kan ta på dine kongelige klær. Så kledde kongen av Israel seg om og gikk inn i kampen.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will make a change in my clothing, so that I do not seem to be the king, and will go into the fight; but do you put on your robes. So the king of Israel made a change in his dress and went into the fight.

31 Kongen av Aram hadde beordret lederne av sine vognstyrker å ikke angripe noen, verken liten eller stor, bortsett fra Israels konge.

Now the king of Aram had given orders to the thirty-two captains of his war-carriages, saying, Make no attack on small or great, but only on the king of Israel.

32 Da lederne av vognene så Josjafat, sa de: Det er Israels konge; og de vendte om mot ham for å angripe ham, men Josjafat skrek.

So when the captains of the war-carriages saw Jehoshaphat, they said, Truly, this is the king of Israel; and turning against him, they came round him, but Jehoshaphat gave a cry.

33 Da lederne av vognene så at det ikke var Israels konge, vendte de seg fra å forfølge ham.

And when the captains of the war-carriages saw that he was not the king of Israel, they went back from going after him.

34 Men en mann spente en pil uten å sikte og traff kongen av Israel mellom festene på rustningen. Så han sa til sin vognstyrer: Vend og ta meg bort fra hæren, for jeg er hardt såret.

And a certain man sent an arrow from his bow without thought of its direction, and gave the king of Israel a wound where his breastplate was joined to his clothing; so he said to the driver of his war-carriage, Go to one side and take me away out of the army, for I am badly wounded.

35 Kampen ble mer intens utover dagen, og kongen ble holdt opp i sin vogn mot arameerne, og bunnen av vognen ble dekket av blodet fra hans sår, og ved kvelden var han død.

But the fight became more violent while the day went on; and the king was supported in his war-carriage facing the Aramaeans, and the floor of the carriage was covered with the blood from his wound, and by evening he was dead.

36 Ved solnedgang gikk det et rop gjennom hele hæren: La alle dra tilbake til sine byer og til sitt land, for kongen er død.

And about sundown a cry went up from all parts of the army, saying, Let every man go back to his town and his country, for the king is dead.

37 Da kom de til Samaria og gravla kongens kropp i Samaria.

And they came to Samaria, and put the king's body to rest in Samaria.

38 Vognen ble vasket ved dammen i Samaria, der kvinnene badet, og hundene slikket blodet hans, som Herren hadde sagt.

And the war-carriage was washed by the pool of Samaria, which was the bathing-place of the loose women, and the dogs were drinking his blood there, as the Lord had said.

39 Resten av Ahabs gjerninger, alt han gjorde, hans elfenbenshus og alle byene han bygde, er de ikke skrevet ned i boken om Israels kongers historie?

Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all he did, and his ivory house, and all the towns of which he was the builder, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Israel?

40 Så Ahab gikk til hvile med sine fedre; og hans sønn Ahazja ble konge i hans sted.

So Ahab was put to rest with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son became king in his place.

41 Josjafat, Asa sønn, ble konge over Juda i det fjerde året av Ahabs styre over Israel.

And Jehoshaphat, the son of Asa, became king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab's rule over Israel.

42 Josjafat var trettifem år gammel da han ble konge, og han regjerte i Jerusalem i tjuefem år. Hans mor het Asuba, datter av Shilhi.

Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he was king for twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.

43 Han fulgte i sin far Asas fotspor og gjorde det som var rett i Herrens øyne, men de høye offerstedene ble ikke fjerna, og folket fortsatte å ofre og brenne røkelse der.

He did as Asa his father had done, not turning away from it, but doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord; but the high places were not taken away: the people went on making offerings and burning them in the high places.

44 Josjafat stiftet fred med kongen av Israel.

And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

45 Resten av Josjafats gjerninger, hans makt og hvordan han førte krig, er ikke de skrevet i boken om Judas kongers historie?

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his great power, and how he went to war, are they not recorded in the book of the history of the kings of Judah?

46 Han fikk ut av landet de som drev med avgudsdyrkelse, som fantes da hans far Asa levde.

He put an end to the rest of those who were used for sex purposes in the worship of the gods, all those who were still in the land in the time of his father Asa.

47 På den tiden var det ingen konge i Edom.

At that time there was no king in Edom;

Then Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, said to Jehoshaphat, Let my men go with yours in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not let them.

50 Josjafat gikk til hvile med sine fedre og ble gravlagt i Davids by, hans far; og hans sønn Joram ble konge i hans sted.

Then Jehoshaphat went to rest with his fathers, and his body was put into the earth in the town of David his father; and Jehoram his son became king in his place.

51 Ahazja, Ahabs sønn, ble konge over Israel i Samaria i det syttende året av Josjafats styre over Juda, og han regjerte over Israel i to år.

Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, became king over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of the rule of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, and he was king over Israel for two years.
