1 Kong Salomo var konge over hele Israel.

King Solomon was king over all Israel.

These were the princes whom he had: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest;

Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided food for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year.

Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and [he was] the only officer who was in the land.

20 Juda og Israel var mange, som sanden ved havet, i antall, spiste, drakk og gledet seg.

Judah and Israel were many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.

21 Salomo hersket over alle kongerikene fra Eufrat til filistrenes land, og til Egypts grense; de brakte skatt og tjente Salomo alle hans livs dager.

Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt: they brought tribute, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 Salomos forsyning for en dag var tretti målinger fin mel, og seksti målinger grovt mel,

Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of meal,

23 ti fete okser, og tjue beiteokser, og hundre sauer, foruten hjorter, gaseller, rådyr, og feite fugler.

ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides harts, and gazelles, and roebucks, and fattened fowl.

24 For han hadde herredømme over hele området på denne siden av Eufrat, fra Tiphsach til Gaza, over alle kongene på denne siden av elven: og han hadde fred på alle sider rundt seg.

For he had dominion over all [the region] on this side the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings on this side the River: and he had peace on all sides round about him.

25 Juda og Israel bodde trygt, hver mann under sitt vintre og under sitt fikentre, fra Dan til Beersjeba, alle Salomos dager.

Judah and Israel lived safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.

26 Salomo hadde førti tusen stallplasser for hestene til sine vogner, og tolv tusen hestemenn.

Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

27 Disse embedsmenn forsynte kong Salomo, og alle som kom til kong Salomos bord, hver mann i sin måned; de lot ingenting mangle.

Those officers provided food for king Solomon, and for all who came to king Solomon's table, every man in his month; they let nothing be lacking.

28 Bygg og strå til hestene og de raske hestene brakte de til stedet hvor embedsmennene var, hver mann etter sitt ansvar.

Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds brought they to the place where [the officers] were, every man according to his charge.

29 Gud ga Salomo visdom og innsikt i rikt monn, og meget stor forståelse, omfangsrikt som sanden ved havets bredd.

God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and very great understanding, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore.

30 Salomos visdom overgikk visdommen til alle Østens folk, og all visdom i Egypt.

Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

31 For han var visere enn alle mennesker; visere enn Etan, esrahitten, og Heman, Kalkol og Darda, sønnene til Mahol: og hans berømmelse var i alle nasjonene rundt omkring.

For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the nations round about.

32 Han talte tre tusen ordspråk; og hans sanger var ett tusen fem.

He spoke three thousand proverbs; and his songs were one thousand five.

33 Han talte om trær, fra sedertreet i Libanon til isopen som vokser ut av muren; han talte også om dyr, fugler, krypende ting, og fisk.

He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fish.

34 Det kom mennesker fra alle folk for å høre Salomos visdom, fra alle konger på jorden, som hadde hørt om hans visdom.

There came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
